GTdrive®
Gun / Turret Drive for Medium Weapons
A critical element for modern combat vehicles is the ability to react
quickly to surrounding conditions. Fastest target sighting, acquisition,
tracing and proper positioning of the main armament is necessary to
obtain a first-round hit. To achieve this, the sights, targeting devices
and weapon systems must be decoupled from the vehicle movements
– they must be stabilized.
ESW delivers essential systems to the Puma, the new tracked infantry
fighting vehicle developed for the German Army. These include the
Gun and Turret Drive System GTdrive®, which, based on the most
modern control technology and digitally configurable, form the basis
for a highly precise stabilization system.
The GTdrive® product family of electrical systems for aiming, stabilization
and slaving of armaments has a wide range of application for reconnais-
sance and combat in light and heavy fighting vehicles. It covers a variety
of drive systems - from spindle to spur gear - to meet the different me-
chanical interfaces. Its high reliability associated with optimized
life-cycle costs gives them the leading edge our customers appreciate.

Stabilization and Power Electronics GTdrive®
Function: The purpose of the stabilization and power elec-tronics is the transformation of the power supply into two 3-phase systems. They supply and control the servo motors for alignment, stabilization and slave mode of the turret/ weapon according to the input signals of the sensors, control handles and active sight.
Interface:
▀ Input: power supply, control and sensor signals
▀ Output: elevation-/ azimuth drive
Features:
▀ Digital version with CAN-bus interface
Elevation and Azimuth GTdrive®
Function: The elevation drive aligns the weapon (gun trunnion axis) in vertical direction and the azimuth drive aligns the turret in horizontal direction according to the signal of the stabilization and power electronics.
Interface:
▀ Input: stabilization and power electronics
▀ Output: vertical and horizontal weapon movement
Features:
▀ Brushless PM-synchronous-motor
▀ Spring-preloaded installation
Components: Housing, planetary-gear, servo motor, auxiliary drive
Alternative configurations according to customer requirements.
