9th IDB Global Forum on Islamic Finance

In conjunction with the 39th Annual Meeting of the IDB Group and the IDB 40th Anniversary, the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) will be organizing the 9th IDB Global Forum on Islamic Finance.

The Forum, aims at providing a platform for strategic policy dialogue for sharing experiences with regard to developing the various segments of the Islamic Financial Services Industry; identifying key challenges of the industry΄s different segments in an integrated manner and promoting cooperation, knowledge sharing and partnership in alleviating the challenges thus facilitating the industry’s orderly development, competitiveness and stability. The Forum is a continuation of the series of Forums that were initiated by IRTI in 2006.

The theme for this year’s Forum is “Islamic Finance and Economic Development: Lessons from the past and Strategies for the Future”. It will take place on 26 Sha’ban, 1435H (24 June 2014) at the Hilton Hotel, Jeddah.

There will be two sessions in the forum. The first session will touch on the theme entitled Islamic Finance and Economic Development: Lessons from the Past and Strategies for the Future. The discussion will cover: relation between Islamic finance and socio-economic development; review the efforts that have been made to provide development funding using Islamic finance by IDB as well as the facilitation role played by IDB in creation of some Islamic finance infrastructure institutions; draw lessons that Islamic finance can learn from successes and failures of various IDB efforts over the period of its operation and propose future areas of attention, along with future needs and changes required at the level of countries, formal institutions, and informal institutions to increase the socio-economic impact of Islamic finance.

The second session will discuss on the topic of Islamic Financial Services Industry Development: Ten-Year Framework and Strategies. The discussion will try to lay out a roadmap for the development of
