The Creation● Before the Creation, the earth was formless and desolate; the ocean covered everything and it was

totally dark● 1st Day

○ God said, “Let there be light”, and it was so○ He separated light & darkness, calling them “Day” and “Night”

● 2nd Day○ He created a “dome” to divide the water and keep it in two separate places○ Separated the water under it from the water above it- He called it the “Sky”

● 3rd Day○ The water below the sky came together in one place, so that land appeared- God named the

land “Earth” and the water “Sea”○ Commanded the earth to produce every kind of plant

● 4th Day○ Commanded lights to appear in the sky to separate day from night, and to show when days,

years, & religious festivals begin- created the Sun to rule over day, and the Moon (and the Stars) to rule over night

● 5th Day○ Commanded water to be filled with sea creatures, and the air to be filled with birds

● 6th Day○ Created all animal life, both domestic and wild○ Created the first man & woman in His own image; gave them rule over all living creatures and

commanded them to go forth and procreate● 7th Day

○ God completed His work & saw that it was good○ He rested; set apart the 7th day as a special day

Moses (birth to the promised land)

The story of Moses begins with him and Aaron not being allowed into the promised land because of the sins they committed. Moses was getting complaints from the villagers and God told him to take them to the rock in the Rephidim near mountain Sinai and talk to the rock ‘til water came pouring out for them to drink. But instead Moses spoke angrily at the villagers and struck the rock twice to release the water. In the end, God was not pleased with Moses because he showed anger and did not obey God’s commands as given.

Jonah And The WhaleJonah was instructed by God to go to the city of Nineveh and preach to its people, in order to turn them away from their wicked lifestyles and to God’s faith. However, the city of nineveh was an enemy to Jonah’s land, Israel. Jonah refused God's request and fled to Tarshish on a ship. However, God saw that Jonah had not obeyed and sent a “great storm” upon the sea to upset the ship. The men on the ship eventually threw Jonah overboard, and he was swallowed by the whale.He stayed in the belly of the whale for three days and nights. During this time Jonah cried out to God, and was repentant. God then commanded the fish to spit jonah up onto dry land. He then went to Nineveh, where he preached God’s message to the people. They were repentant and went into a period of fasting and wearing sackcloths to beg God for forgiveness.

Job In this story, God lets Satan test a faithful man named Job. Job is a very wealthy man who lived with his wife, and seven children. On account of being wealthy, Job owned many animals and servants. One day, Satan shows up in front of God and God informs Satan of how great Job is because he hates evil. Satan responds back by saying that Job only loves God because he protects his family and has made him rich. When Satan says that if God would take all away from him, that he would hate him. God decides to give Satan permission to test Job because God knows that no matter what Job would always believe in him and would not confront God. Satan does as he said he would and takes all away from Job. Job is overcome by sorrow all he had was gone. But, Job does not confront God on why he did itJob prayed to God saying that he came in with nothing and therefore will leave with nothing.Satan says to God that he still loves him only because Job has not dealt with great sickness. God once again lets Satan test Job. Satan attacks Job’s health by covering his skin with painful sores. Once again Job does not blame GoD. One day, Job’s friends show up at his house to comfort him and sit there for seven days and nights without saying a single word. Job decides to speak and curses the day he was born.Job questions God. “Why has God done this to me?” God also confronts Job by asking where he was when God created earth. Job understands that we should not question God for he is God. Job apologized to God and God was pleased and gave Job twice of what he had owned before.

Adam & Eve● God created the first man, Adam, in His own image● God decided that Adam needed a partner, so He took

Adam’s rib and created the first woman- Eve● They lived in the Garden of Eden- God told them they

could eat the fruit of any tree in the garden EXCEPT the Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil

● Satan, in the form of a serpent, tempts Eve to eat the forbidden fruit- she does so, and her eyes are opened

● Eve gives the fruit to Adam and convinces him to partake of it as well- his eyes are opened

● They hide from God, fearing His anger; when He discovers they have eaten the forbidden fruit, He casts them out of the Garden of Eden

● Adam & Eve are told to work the soil & labor to survive; they are also commanded to have children

Abraham and Isaac

This story begins with Abraham, he has an only son named Isaac whom he loves so much because he had difficulties having a child. God decided to give Abraham a test of seeing how faithful he was to God. He told him to take Isaac up to the mountain of Moriah to the altar where they sacrifice goats and other things to God to resemble their faith/loyalty to him. With the pain of having to sacrifice his only son, Abraham took Isaac up to the top of the mountain. But as soon as he was about to sacrifice him, an angel that God had sent told him to stop and that all of this was simply a test. In the end, God gave him the relief of not having to kill his son and the blessing of many generations of his family to come in the future

Samson and Delilah Samson is one of the last israelite judges, a leader whose abilities gave him the power to do amazing things. At the time of this story, Samson was judge over Israel, and was taking out vengeance on the philistines. The philistine rulers then paid Delilah, the woman samson was in love with, to find his weakness so that they might exact their revenge. After repeating requests and questions over and over, Samson eventually divulged his secret to Delilah, Because he had taken the Nazirite vow at birth, and could not cut his hair. Delilah and the Philistine rulers then cut his hair to take his strength and power from him. In his weakened state, they gouged out his eyes and enslaved him. While in slavery, Samson cried out to God and turned to the lord for help. God answered, and so during a pagan ritual in the city of Gaza, samson broke down two pillars that supported the temple, sacrificing both himself and everyone in the building.

Joseph and the Coat of many colors● Joseph is the favored of eleven sons● only one who can read and write● Jacob makes him a coat of many colors● Joseph has dreams of his brothers bowing down to him● the brothers get jealous, throw him in a well and later sell him to the Ishmaelites● Joseph becomes a slave● he is bought by the Farrow’s chief stuart and becomes in charge of his household● The wife of the chief stuart orders him to kiss her, he doesn't, he is put in prison● in prison he interprets two dreams and they become true● he stays in prison for two more years until he is called upon the Farrow to interprets his dreams● after interpreting his dreams, Joseph is appointed to the high governor of Egypt● he collects food for seven years● the famine arrives and Egypt is ready but Jacob and his people grow hungry● Jacob sends his sons to collect food● Joseph spots his brothers and accuses them of being spies and throws them in jail● after three days, Joseph tells them again to bring Benjamin to him● The brothers return to Jacob to take Benjamin back but Jacob wont allow● after much convincing he finally lets them go. When the brothers arrive, Joseph puts on a feast for

them ● Joseph tells his stuart to put his silver cup inside Benjamin's sack● on the way home, the stuart calls upon them and finds the cup inside Benjamin's sack● Joseph pretend to be angry but finally falls apart and tells them that he is Joseph the brother that

they sold to slavery● they are all happy and Joseph tells them to go back and inform jacob f the great news● Jacob goes to Egypt, reunites with Joseph and they libe together with all their family.

● Adam & Eve conceive their first child, Cain, and their second child, Abel

● Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil● As an offering to God, Cain presented his fruits of the soil,

and Abel presented fat portions from the firstborn of his flock● God was pleased with Abel’s offering, but not Cain’s- Cain

was angry● Cain tells Abel, “Let’s go out to the field,” and while they were

in the field Cain attacks & kills Abel● God ask Cain where Abel is, to which Cain responds; “I don’t

know, am I my brother’s keeper?”● Angry that he has killed Abel, God curses Cain that he shall

no longer be able to receive the fruits of the soil, and that he shall be a restless wanderer of the earth

● God marks Cain so that no man will kill him, or else suffer vengeance seven times over

● Cain leaves Eden, has a family, and builds a city

Cain & Abel

Tower of Babel

The people of earth, specifically of Shinar (Babylonia) were becoming more skilled at constructing things and thus they decided to build a tower. They believed that if they built this tower it would allow them to reach to heaven. God believed that they wouldn’t want this tower actually as a “stairway to heaven” to get closer to God, but more as a title or the credit of having built it. Therefore, God prevented them from building the Tower of Babel by confusing their ability to communicate with one another by changing their languages. Also, he scattered them all over the earth, thus creating it basically impossible to create the Tower of Babel due to poor communication skills.

King solomon of israel was asked to judge over two women who came to him with their sons. One woman claimed that her son had been switched with the other womans, (who had accidentally smothered her own son while asleep) to make it appear as though she was the one with the dead baby. The woman who had switched the babies maintained that it was her son that was living and the other womans that had died. Solomon determined this for some time, and then commanded that a sword be brought forth to him. Since they could not determine the real mother, he proclaimed that the boy be cut in two, each half going to one woman. The true mother cried out that the other woman could keep the baby, so that he might be spared. The liar, still bitter, demanded that the baby be cut in two. Solomon then gave the baby to the real mother, who was willing to give up her son in order o spare his life.

Armageddon Armageddon is basically the last of the wars. Where good and evil come to a war. The war that will determine the end of life.Armageddon is only mentioned in the bible once. People think that every major war is Armageddon. Ex: WWI, WWII, or Cold War. The place where the last battle between good and evil will be fought. The translated word means a “hill” or “mountain” In Hebrew Mageddon is the place of Megido. In the old testament, Megiddo was a place of various battles.

David & Goliath● Battle between the Philistines and the Israelites (under the command of King Saul)● The Philistines send forth their strongest man, Goliath, who was “six cubits and a span” tall

(approximately 9 feet 9 inches)● Goliath challenges the Israelites, asking them to send forth one man to be his opponent; should Goliath

win, the Israelites would become slaves to the Philistines; but should his opponent slay him, the Philistines would become slaves to the Israelites

● David, son of an Ephrathite named Jesse, was the youngest of 8 sons and was a sheppard● For 40 days, Goliath came out from the Philistine camp each morning and again made his offer, but the

Israelites were too afraid● One day, Jesse sends David to deliver bread & cheese to his three oldest brothers, who were in Saul’s

army● When David arrives at the Israelites camp, they are preparing for battle; Goliath again makes his offer● The Israelites tell David that Saul has promised great wealth, his daughter’s hand in marriage, and tax

exemption to the man who kills Goliath● David steps up to the challenge; Saul tells him he is too young, to which he responds that he has killed a

lion and a bear before, and also that the Lord will be with him- Saul lets him go● He is given armor and a sword, but it is too heavy for him; he chooses his own slingshot and 5 stones

from a stream instead● When Goliath sees David is his opponent, he scoffs & feels insulted; “Come here,” he says, “I’ll give your

flesh to the birds and the wild animals!” ● David replies that the Lord will deliver Goliath into his hands, and that he will strike him down & cut off his

head● David uses his slingshot; the stone strikes Goliath right on the forehead- it sinks in and he falls face down● David cuts off Goliath’s head- the Philistines retreat in terror, and the Israelites pursue & defeat them
