My wife and I have an unspoken rule that whoever is first to stumble out of bed on Saturday morning that they assume the responsibility of starting the kettle and preparing the French Press with 8, yes 8 scoops of Peet’s Organic Decaf Terrena coffee. Well this past weekend, I somehow made it out to the kitchen before my wonderful bride and, despite not quite thinking clearly, I was awake enough to move towards something that will help unscramble my thoughts and got the hot water going. While enjoying my second cup of this freshly brewed coffee, it struck me that God performs a similar function for us when we ask Him to clear out the confusion and unscramble our thoughts. Some people assume they don’t have time to begin their day with God…they don’t realize how much He can facilitate their lives. God is sovereign over every aspect of our life, so I encourage us all to open up so that He can remove obstacles and clarify our thinking.

Message from the President of Columbia Cottage

Valentine’s Day at the CottageResidents were treated to a special Valentine’s Day lunch prepared by Kristy Brown, our Resident Food Service Director. They enjoyed surf and turf with shrimp cocktail for the appetizer and filet mignon for the main course.

We would like to thank Carrie Burger and our whole Bayada team for hosting the afternoon activity – Fall in Love on Valentine’s Day. Residents stopped by for a personal fall risk assessment followed by a Valentine’s Day social with treats and crafts.

Margery Basile was born in Bridgeport, PA to C. Herman Bruno and Margery (America) Bruno. She has two sisters, Elsie who now lives in DC and Jean who has passed away as well as one brother, Ronald who lives in Trooper, PA. Margery attended school in the Bridgeport school district from 1st to 12th

grade. Her first job was at a law firm in Norristown working as a bookkeeper and then went on to become the office manager/inside sales for two privately owned companies.

Paul Anthony Basile was set up to go on a blind date with Margery’s sister, Jeanie, and the rest is history. The love birds were married in 1952. Paul joined the Navy right out of West Catholic High School and served for four years. He then drove for a privately owned hauling company until he was diagnosed with ALS shortly after being discharged from the military. Paul passed away on February 24, 1967 but left Margery with two wonderful children – Paula and David. They enjoyed going on family picnic and weekly dinners hosted by Margery’s mother, Paula’s dance recitals, and David’s track meets.

Margery likes the personal care given by the homemakers at the Cottage and the convenient transportation for outside appointments. She also enjoys the congeniality among staff and other residents.

Quarterly Service Project: The Humane Society

The Cottage held a dress down week for the staff to raise money and collect supplies for the local Humane Society, who help to prevent and fight animal cruelty. Through our staff, residents, and family

members’ efforts we were able to gather many boxes of food, treats, and toys as well as $100 to contribute to the cause. If you would like to make additional donations to the Humane Society, please visit their website www.humanesociety.org.

Staff Appreciation with Caring Hospice

Caring Hospice hosted a staff appreciation pizza party on February 12. Thank you to Monique Minor for arranging this special event for our very extraordinary group of dedicated and loving caregivers. Our homemakers truly make an enormous difference every day for our residents and their families.

Sunday, March 8 is the start of Daylight Saving Time, which begins at 2:00 A.M. that night. Don’t forget to “spring forward” and set your clocks ahead one hour!

March 8 is also International Women’s Day, which is a day that celebrates the achievements of women and the progress made toward women’s rights.

Tuesday, March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day. According to folklore, St. Patrick used the three-leaved clover (shamrock) in his teachings about the Holy Trinity.

Thursday, March 19 brings about the March equinox—also called the vernal or spring equinox—marking the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
