As you probably all remember a large crowd gathered in a remote location to listen to Jesus but at the end of the day the disciples wanted to send the crowd of more than 5,000 men away to find food and shelter for the night. Jesus told his disciples to feed the crowd and they complained because they only had 5 loaves and 2 fish but after Jesus blessed the food and everyone had eaten more than 12 baskets of leftovers were collected. This story is like a summary of Christian life, the way Jesus wants us to live. Jesus was welcoming and open to everyone, especially those who are neglected. He showed what Gods kingdom was like in the way he treated and cared for others. Jesus was attentive to all the hungersthat people had within them. He cured all those who were sick, comforted the sad and gave hope to those who had no hope. Jesus gave us the great sacrament of his Body and Blood so that he could do the same for us, and so that we would be able to do these things for those around us. Sometimes, like the disciples, we may feel that we can't do such a big job. But just as Jesus stepped in and helped them, he will do the same for us. He asks us to treat others the way he would treat them, but he always helps us to do it. Jesus helps us through our families, our school community, and our liturgies. Together we help remind each other of who we are – the Body of Christ on earth – and we help each other to act like Jesus. This gospel also reminds us that our work as Christians is to become the Body of Christ on earth, and that we do this by being formed through the sacrament of Christs Body and Blood into people who see, think and love as Jesus does. Just as Jesus feeds both the spiritual and physical hunger of those who followed him, we are to do the same in his name. JUNE Fr 28 Last Day Term 2—Dismissal at

2.15pm JULY Mo 15 First Day Term 3 Tu 23 SAC Meeting 7.00pm

Dear Parents and Members of St. Patrick’s School Community,

SUNDAY 23rd JUNE—THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST—Last Sunday’s gospel from Luke contained the miracle of the 5 loaves and 2 fish. He showed what God’s kingdom was like in the way he treated and cared for others. Jesus was attentive to all the ‘hungers’ that people had within them.

This gospel also reminds us that our work as Christians is to become the Body of Christ on earth, and that we do this by being formed through the sacrament of Christ’s Body and Blood into people who see, think and love as Jesus does. Just as Jesus feeds both the spiritual and physical hunger of those who followed him, we are to do the same in his name.

  • JUNIOR CLASS What a busy term we have had in the Junior classroom. Everyone has worked incredibly hard and achieved so much, whether it be in Reading, Writing or Maths, maybe in sports and art too! Our Foundation students have especially come so far in such a short time, and will soon be bringing books home to read like the older kids!

This week we have enjoyed creating artworks with movement, lines and bright colours. We would love you to come in after the holidays and have a look at these pieces which are displayed in our room.

SENIOR CLASS We can't believe we're half way through the year! The Senior students have worked really hard this term. They have made posters that were displayed around the local community, which hopefully persuade people to stop using plastic straws. They explored Bees and the incredible part they play in our world. Everyone in the senior class worked collaboratively together to make various papier-mache models as part of the class research project. It's displayed it the library, and we'd really like you to come and see their amazing work! This term the students have also participated in lot of sports days. The students were fantastic at cheering each other on and demonstrated great sportsmanship! All the Senior students should be proud of themselves and the work they've achieved this term!

RELIGOUS EDUATION Pope Francis wrote a letter to all children reminding them that we need to care for our common home. The earth is God's gift to us. It is full of beauty and wonder. It belongs to everyone. As responsible citizens, and caring for God's earth, the Junior students have considered the 3 R's: Reuse, Recycle and Reduce. They reused recyclable products to construct new items. This week the Senior students shared their environmental posters with the Juniors.

quality, explicit teaching in the everyday classroom, but sometimes our students require more assistance and for longer periods of time. Sometimes this is extra work is undertaken in the classroom by the teacher and sometimes students require specific intervention in small groups or one on one. High quality intervention must be research based and it must be conducted with fidelity by the teacher or the Learning Support Officer for the greatest impact but the aim of any intervention or adjustment is to provide the student with the greatest opportunity to reach the expected standard in the shortest time possible. The three days of this professional development were very intense but there is now a lot of information to disseminate to our teachers.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS—Given the amount of learning and the number of extra curricular activities we have packed into Term 2 I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. It will give those children who have been sick and tired in the last couple of weeks a chance to recuperate for a busy and fun-filled Term 3.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD—Aline Deckert, the School Representative for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, recently contacted St Patrick’s School to ask whether any of our families would be interested in contributing to this project which aims to give gifts to children living in poverty. Most of the children who receive a shoebox will have never received a gift before so for them it really is a ‘Gift of Love in a Shoebox’. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, a non-profit, non-denominational Christian world wide organisation providing emergency relief and development assistance to people who live in poverty in developing countries. Through the Shoe Box gifts Samaritan’s Purse connects with these communities and meets other vital needs including safe water, sanitation, health and education.

Last year Shoe Boxes given by people in Australia and New Zealand were sent to Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Fiji. Victorians sent over 50,000 Shoe Boxes to the Philippines. To find out more information go to www.operationchristmaschild.org.au.

St Patrick’s School will be accepting donations of Shoe Boxes for collection by Aline Deckert if you are interested in donating for this cause. Please follow the guidelines for the type of items to be included in the shoe box elsewhere in the newsletter.

FOOTY TIPPING—With only one round left to go in our mini competition, Mrs Munro has flown into the lead after getting a bonus of 6 points last week. We will announce the winner of the highly sought after title of "tipping champion" after the holidays … ... stay tuned. Em and Jobe Dickinson.

SCHOOL FEES—Fees statements are attached to this newsletter (for debit balance accounts). Families are reminded that if payment of fees is an issue then please arrange a confidential appointment with me to discuss additional fee assistance and/or suitable payment arrangements.

Full colour version of newsletter is on our website spnhill.catholic.edu.au/newsletters-2018.html and FlexiBuzz

  • Bread tags come in many shapes, sizes and colours. Made of High Impact Polystyrene they have a good recycling value. It takes 200 bread bags full of tags that are packed into 10 black bags or 200 kg of tags to bring in enough money to buy one wheelchair.

Mary Honeybun founded the organization in 2006 in Cape Town and they provide 2 to 3 wheelchairs to adults and children around South Africa every month!! Having a wheelchair gives the recipient independence and mobility and this makes a big difference to their families as well.

Collecting bread tags, even broken ones, makes a difference to our environment too as they are recycled into seedling trays, picture frames, coat hangers and other items.

You too can make a difference to the lives of people who are in need of a wheelchair.

Save your bread tags and get your families and friends to do so too.

We have set up a collection point at school and will forward them to the organiser in Horsham.

This is a St Patrick’s School Advisory Council Community Engagement project.
