DAVID A. AGUILAR, former director of public affairs and science information at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, is an internationally recognized author, lecturer, astronomy expert, naturalist, and space artist whose expertise lies in explaining the fascinating connections between the universe and ourselves. He is a Random House/Smithsonian and National Geographic author

and illustrator, and the television host of the Science Channel’s NASA’s Unexplained Files and the History Channel’s The Universe series. He has been featured on the BBC, ABC News, CNN, and NPR, and in Time magazine, the New York Times, USA Today, National Geographic, Sky & Telescope, and Scientific American. He is also past director of special media for NASA’s historic New Horizons mission to Pluto. Asteroid 1990A was named to honor his outstanding achievements in science education, and he has the added distinction of being a Grammy-nominated musician.

BEARS TRACES OF THE MANY CIVILIZATIONS THAT HAVE CONQUERED HER,

from the Phoenicians to the Romans to the Normans, and more. Autumn is

the perfect time to circumnavigate this stunning island aboard a legendary

sailing yacht, stepping ashore to discover her pearls of antiquity. Explore the

Greek and Roman theaters of Syracuse and visit a Baroque palazzo whose

owner will welcome you for a tour. Explore the seven temples of Agrigento,

and from Trapani, view the Greek temple of Segesta before choosing an

excursion to medieval Erice or to Mazara del Vallo, home to an ancient bronze

statue rescued from the sea only two decades ago. Palermo, Sicily’s capital

SEA CLOUD With her rich mahogany and gleaming brass appointments, the legendary Sea Cloud travels under 32,000 square feet of billowing sails trimmed by hand. Her original owners, heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post and financier E. F. Hutton, desired a craft like no other. They spared no expense to create the largest private sailing ship ever built and in 1931, Sea Cloud was launched. In the ’30s and ’40s, as she sailed the world, the four-masted beauty was host to leaders including Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Sweden’s King Gustavus V. Now carefully restored by a team of master craftspeople, this great lady continues to offer elegant quarters, fine dining, and impeccable service. Praised by the world’s most discerning travelers and travel writers, Sea Cloud receives consistent high rankings from Condé Nast Traveler.
