The Best is Yet to Come

He has saved the best for last! The

best is yet to come! These are two phrases the world uses over and over and hold littlemeaning these days since everything done inthe world attempts to outshine and outperform what went before. Movies, books, magazines, videos and video games, television and muchmore . . . they all come at you with adriving force meant to draw you in to theirexcitement and enticement. Each new thing better and greater than what went before. In

order to receive any personal gratification thesedays each new thing must be bigger, better, more exciting than what has been put behind.

He has saved the best for last! The best is yet to come! The world, the unsaved, have no idea what these words mean. Theyknow little or nothing about the last things

and what is yet to come. Nobody knows.Nobody, that is, until it is revealed to them bythe Lord Jesus Christ. And that, only throughan intimate and personal relationship. Then, you are no longer nobody but rather aransomed soul destined for an eternity in glory with the risen Master and Creator of theuniverse. Yes, the best has been saved for lastand it is yet to come.

The Spirit relates this future blessednessto us in the form of a marriage, a wedding between Christ and His church, His called ouones, those who have endured unto the end

faithful and obedient. Just writing this givesme a thrill, an excitement that runs throughoutmy body in eager anticipation. I literallycannot wait for this to happen. How abouyou? Are you ready for the wedding?

Please be patient with me for a fewmoments as we see what the Word of God hasto say about this. The Bible says, And Jesusanswered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, the kingdom of heaven islike unto a certain king, which made a

marriage for his son, and sent forth hisservants to call them that were bidden to thewedding: and they would not come. Again, hesent forth other servants, saying, Tell themwhich are bidden, Behold, I have prepared mydinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killedand all things are ready: come unto themarriage. But they made light of it, and wentheir ways, one to his farm, another to hismerchandise: and the remnant took hisservants, and entreated them spitefully, and

slew them. But when the king heard thereofhe was wroth: and he sent forth his armiesand destroyed those murderers, and burnedup their city. Then saith he to his servantsThe wedding is ready, but they which werebidden were not worthy. Go ye therefore intothe highways, and as many as ye shall findbid to the marriage. So those servants wenout into the highways, and gathered togetherall as many as they found, both bad and goodand the wedding was furnished with guestsAnd when the king came in to see the guestshe saw there a man which had not on awedding garment: and he saith unto himFriend, how camest thou in hither not havinga wedding garment? And he was speechlessThen said the king to the servants, Bind himhand and foot, and take him away, and casthim into outer darkness, there shall beweeping and gnashing of teeth. For many arecalled, but few are chosen. (Matthew 22:1-14)

The Best is Yet to Come (continued)No, this is not all of which I speak. See

further. Then shall the kingdom of heaven belikened unto ten virgins, which took theirlamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took theirlamps, and took no oil with them: but the wisetook oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they allslumbered and slept. And at midnight therewas a cry made, Behold, the bridegroomcometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all thosevirgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. Andthe foolish said unto the wise, Give us of youroil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise

answered, saying, Not so; lest there be notenough for us and you: but go ye rather tothem that sell, and buy for yourselves. Andwhile they went to buy, the bridegroom came;and they that were ready went in with him tothe marriage: and the door was shut.Afterward came also the other virgins, saying,Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered andsaid, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.Watch therefore, for ye know neither the daynor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

(Matthew 25:1-13)And yet there is more. And I heard asit were the voice of a great multitude, and asthe voice of many waters, and as the voice of

mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent

reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and givehonour to him: for the marriage of the Lambis come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should bearrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. Andhe saith unto me, Write, Blessed are theywhich are called unto the marriage supper ofthe Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are thetrue sayings of God. (Revelation 19:6-9)

On the wedding night, when a man whohas prepared himself under the instruction ofthe Spirit to receive unto himself a Godlywoman in marriage and likewise also a woman, there awaits them both a blessedness, a

powerful, exciting and mystical intimacy thatthey could never had known had they noremained virgins having not fallen in the sin offornication during their lives. This physicaunion, so perfect and pure, so humble and

honoring, is a type of the union that we whohave remained faithful will share with Him, theLord of Glory, on the day we enter into theSpirit that once and final time never to returnto the world again. This physical unionbetween a man and a woman is a type of thiperfect union, revealed to us here in this life asthrough a mist until we depart these mortal bodies and unite with Him eternally in thSpirit.

If we know the power, joy and happinessof such a sexual union here on earth, how muchthe more when we meet Him face to face afterthis life. The greatest joy in intimacy we haveshared here will be nothing when compared towhat awaits us in Heaven and home. Can younot wait to get there?

Satan has chosen through the fallen-ness of sin to pervert this perfect, physicaunion between a man and wife. Through thedeceitfulness of sin this intercourse has beencheapened until it means next to nothingDont believe me? Look at your television, you

cable or satellite channels, the movies, booksand magazines, online and print pornographyIt is an epidemic of lust and sinfulness meantto persuade even the strongest among us to sinsexually. Saints, do not fall into this sinfulnessRemain pure, remain steadfast. Hold out andhold on to the Lord of Glory, He will reward

your faithfulness and obedience. Be ready. Bprepared. (continued on page three)

The Best is Yet to Come (continued)The day of His appearing will come as a thief inthe night. A beloved man of God once taughtme, and I have remembered it now for overtwenty five years, Its all right to let Him catch

you unawares . . . do not let Him catch youunprepared!.

Let us all look forward to the day when we meet Him face to face and enter into ablessed joy meant for man since the beginningof time. He HAS saved the best for last and theBEST is yet to come! He is coming soon.Maranatha! John Payne

    Stand for the Truth

Years ago, there was a religious service held

at the Golden Gate Exposition in San Francisco. Itquickly became obvious that the minister delivering

the main address was a Christ rejecting liberal.

While he was an eloquent speaker, he began todirect most of his message against the power of the

blood of Christ. When his oratory ended, a timid,

elder lady stood up in the midst of the crowd and

softly began to sing a William Cowper hymn as arebuttal to the modernists remarks. A hush fell

over the assembly as they heard those faint but

familiar words: "There is a fountain filled with

blood drawn from Immanuels veins, and sinners

plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty

stains."Before she could begin the second stanza,

    approximately a hundred

people rose to join her.By the time she reached

    the third verse, nearly a

    thousand Christians all

over the audience weresinging that blessed

song of faith. Thetriumphant, thrilling strains rang out loud and clear:"Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood shall never

lose its power, till all the ransomed church of God

be saved to sin no more."Many were deeply moved as that humble

believer stood up for her Lord that day with the

light of Heaven upon her face. My we, like that

woman, stand for the Lord Jesus Christ in the publicforum.

William BoothFirst General of the Salvation Army

"I seemed to hear a voice sounding inmy ears, 'Where can you go and find suchheathen as these, and where is there so great aneed for your labors?'"

After he died, 150,000 people filed bthe casket, and 40,000,includingQueen Mary, attended hisfuneral. It wasa remarkableend for a man born into

poverty and who workedin the midst ofpoverty his whole life. But WilliamBooth was aremarkable man, who was given the title "TheProphet of the Poor." He is best known today asfounder and first general of the SalvationArmy.

Booth was born in relative poverty, inSneinton, a suburb of Nottingham, EnglandHis parents were not religious and at bestlaboring class, with little education. His father"a Grab, a Get," by William's definition, died when William was just 14. By that timWilliam was helping to earn the family incomeas a pawnbroker's apprentice. Sometimeduring his fifteenth year, William was invited by a Wesleyan couple to attend chapel, wherhe was converted. He wrote in his diary, "God

shall have all there is of William Booth."Then came another life-changingexperience. He heard an American revivaliswho led "a remarkable religious awakening" aNottingham's Wesleyan Chapel. The rush ofsouls to hear the gospel led Booth to see that"soul-saving results may be calculated upon when proper means are used for theaccomplishment." (continued on page four)

William Booth (continued)Booth went on to make a lifelong commitmentto the revivalism methods of Charles G. Finney.

Booth and a group of friends set out toevangelize the poor. They held nightly open-air

addresses, after which they invited people tomeetings incottages. Theiruse of livelysongs, shortexhortationscalling for adecision forChrist, andvisitation of thesick and of

converts(whose namesand addressesthey recorded)anticipatedmethods Booth would writeinto Salvation Army Orders and Regulations 30years later.

When he was criticized for using seculartunes to attract crowds, he replied, "Secularmusic, do you say, belongs to the devil? Doesit? Well, if it did I would plunder him for it, forhe has no right to a single note of the wholeseven." When his pastor proposed thatWilliam himself prepare for ordained ministry,he accepted, and soon found himself pastor toReform Methodists in Spaulding, though theirdisorganized ways repelled him.

During this period, William metCatherine Mumford. Beginning with theirsecond meeting on Good Friday 1852, theyentered one of the most remarkablerelationships in religious history. Theymarried in a South London Congregationalchapel in June 1855.

By 1861 William was finding that"settled ministry" did not suit him, and heresigned. He and Catherine became itinerantevangelists in Wales, Cornwall, and theMidlands, Britain's "burned-over" districts. The Booths preached in naphtha-lit tents onunused burial grounds, in haylofts, in rooms

behind a pigeon shop, anywhere to fulfill hifamous words, "Gofor souls and go forthe worst!"

    An invitation

for Catherine topreach in London in1865 led him toaccept support fromlay-run EastLondon missions asa temporaryministry. EastLondon in the1860s was, in the words of one writer, "asqualid labyrinth, with half a million people290 to the acre . . . every fifth house was a ginshop, and most had special steps to help eventhe tiniest children reach the counter." Afterseeing some of East London's gin palaces, hetold Catherine, "I seemed to hear a voicesounding in my ears, 'Where can you go andfind such heathen as these, and where is thereso great a need for your labors?'"

William soon organized his own EasLondon Christian Mission which, by 1870resembled a Methodist society. His missionfailed to attract the "heathen masses," however

So in 1878, he energized it by giving it thename "Salvation Army," an idea he borrowedfrom the successful British VolunteerMovement. A military structure was installed with "General" William Booth at the topMilitary trappings were added over the nextcouple of years. The idea caught theimagination, and within ten years, theSalvation Army was established in the UnitedStates, Canada, and Europe as well.

Booth was single-minded in his zeal. He

once said, "While women weep, as they do nowI'll fight; while little children go hungry, I'lfight; while men go to prison, in and out, in andout, as they do now, I'll fight; while there is adrunkard left, while there is a poor lost girupon the streets, where there remains one darksoul without the light of God - I'll fight! I'll fighto the very end!" His zeal, however, made foless than happy personal relationships, which

William Booth (continued)led to strains and schism especially in theAmerican branch.

Over the years, he created an elaboratesocial relief system because he believed charity

would speed the work of evangelism. In 1890,

he published In Darkest England and the WayOut (which became a bestseller) to explain hissocial relief scheme. At the time of his deathon August 20, 1912, the Salvation Army had become a family-run Christian empire, withseven of the Booths' eight children takingleadership positions. Today, following thepattern established by the first general, theSalvation Army marches on with over 25,000officers in 91 countries.

In Evil Long I Took Delight

In evil long I took delight,Unawed by shame or fear,

Till a new object struck my sight,And stoppd my wild career:

I saw One hanging on a TreeIn agonies and blood,

Who fixd His languid eyes on me.As near His Cross I stood.

Sure never till my latest breath,Can I forget that look:

It seemd to charge me with His death,Though not a word He spoke:

My conscience felt and ownd the guilt,And plunged me in despair:

I saw my sins His Blood had spilt,And helpd to nail Him there.

Alas! I knew not what I did!But now my tears are vain:

Where shall my trembling soul be hid'For I the Lord have slain!

    A second look He gave, which said,I freely all forgive;

This blood is for thy ransom paid;I die that thou mayst live.

Thus, while His death my sin displaysIn all its blackest hue,

Such is the mystery of grace,

    It seals my pardon too.

With pleasing grief, and mournful joy,My spirit now if filld,

That I should such a life destroy,Yet live by Him I killd!

Atomic ExperimentIt was May 21, 1946. The place - Los

Alamos. A young and daring scientist was carrying

out a necessary experiment in preparation for theatomic test to be conducted in the waters of the

South Pacific atoll at Bikini. He had successfully

performed such an experiment many times beforeIn his effort to determine the amount of Uranium

235 necessary for a chain reaction (scientists call it

the critical mass) he would push two hemispheres of

uranium together. Then, just as the mass becamecritical, he would push them apart with his

screwdriver, thus instantly stopping the chain

reaction. But that day, just as the material became

critical, the screwdriver slipped! The hemispheres

of uranium came too close together. Instantly theroom was filled with a dazzling bluish haze. Young

Louis Slotin, instead of ducking and thereby

possibly saving himself, tore the two hemisphere

apart with his hands and thus interrupted the chainreaction. By this instant, self-forgetful daring, he

saved the lives of the seven other persons in the

room.As he waited for the car that was to take him

to the hospital, he said quietly to his companion

Youll come through all right. But I havent thefaintest chance myself. It was only too true. Nine

days later he died in agony. Nineteen centuries ago

    the Son ofthe living

    God walked

    directly into

    sins mostconcentrated

    radiation,

    allowedHimself to

be touched by its curse, and let it

    take His life.But by that

    act He broke

    the chainreaction. He

    broke the power of sin.

How GREAT is our God! (continued)I was reading just the other day how

scientists are now searching deeper and deeper into

space trying to find when the Big Bang occurred.

After searching billions of light years into space

they now are starting to wonder if they will everfind out when the Big Bang occurred or if it had

ever occurred at all. It's interesting, because here in Job 9:8 when

it states " He alone stretches out the heavens andtreads on the water of the sea." kind of goes along

on what the scientists theorize. Gods Word andscience go hand in hand.

As Christians we know the Big Bang never

happened. God created the heavens and the earth just as it is stated in his Word. The vastness and

complexity of space just proves how complex andhow awesome our God is. However it's sad thatthese scientists are spending their whole life looking

for answers about creation and wondering how it all

got here and yet the only place they need to look isin the Bible.

Trying to understand our universe would be

like ants trying to understand the nuclear activity of

the sun. It's just not possible! It takes a GREATmathematician to create the countless number of

stars and have them take their place in the vast

universe. There are only around three thousandstars visible to the naked eye, but there are billions

beyond that. In fact, we are appalled by the vast

numbers and distances involved in the expansiveuniverse. Yet with all the created heavenly bodies,

God knows the name of each one.

In Psalms 147:4 it states, "He telleth the

number of the stars; he calleth them all by their

names." David in Psalms 8:3-4 states "When I

consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the

    moon and the stars, which tho hast ordained;

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? andthe son of man, thou visitest him?" In Psalm 97:6

it states "The heavens declare his righteousness,

and all the people see his glory." The next time

you go outside at night, look up at space and see Hisrighteousness. Our God is a GREAT God and He

loves us with an everlasting love.
