(evaluating sources tutorial @ HCC Libraries)
You find the book, article, or webpage you need. Now, it’s paper writing time!
You find the book, article, or webpage you need. Now, it’s paper writing time!
Actually... no.
Not all information is
equal!
Information can be Unbiased, accurate, Current, & helpful.
(Good information sources)
Information can also be prejudicial
or SLanted, out-of-date, & full of
mistakes.
(Meaning it won’t help you at all)
You can write a beautiful, eloquent paper, free of grammar errors, but if you base it on the wrong information & use poor sources, you’re going to get a BAD grade.
Remember, your research reflects your effort!
Quality sources = quality effort = impressed professor
By examining a few parts of a source, you can quickly determine whether it’s useful and relevant for your needs.
(The better the information, the better your grade.)
Think of it this way...
Evaluating sources → better research → better information → better informed opinions & presentation of facts → better
grades & happier professors → a better educational experience → a happier you!
