Aim

The study explores the role of National and Strategic Studies (NASS) in the teacher education curriculum in securing human capabilities and promoting human development for critical democratic citizenship.

Background to the study

Local and international context.Problem statement – controversy generated by

the introduction of NASS centred on the contested content of citizenship education, the role of HE in forming citizens, the type of citizens to be formed.

Significance:1) Contributes to international literature in citizenship

education studies in HE.2) Innovatively explores this from a capabilities and

human development perspective.3) Original in exploring the Zimbabwean context. 4) Recommendations for policy and practices regarding

the teaching of NASS in tertiary institutions in Zimbabwe.
