“Heads Up” - February 2015

Page 2: Heads Up February 2015

WelcomeIt has been a busy start to the last quarter of the 14/15 financial year. As you will have no doubt witnessed from our Weekly Updates, activity and programmes keep up their momentum. A near sell out Coaching Conference, a number of well attended Coaching programmes running concurrently, Health Care Leadership Framework 360 training, Cohort 2 of the Team Resilience programme, preparations for the Jönköping Microsystems Festival with the establishment of the Co-Creation Network and the Communities of Practice which sit within it. All this alongside Frontline Cohorts, Mary Seacole and Ready Now applications, GMTS interview process and 2015 hosting preparations. I am really proud of the team who have managed to keep plates spinning in the face of some staff shortages and shoe-horning remaining annual leave in. I would like to thank them for their hard work and thank you for your patience during a particularly challenging period.

As we look towards 15/16 we, like many others in the system are facing financial pressures and reductions in funding that will require us to think imaginatively about our regional offer and innovatively about how it is delivered. We are absolutely committed to maintaining a regional offer, an offer which has evolved in partnership and consultation with you over the last few years. In the face of significant budget cuts it will be even more important that we engage with you to ensure we focus our efforts on your specific local requirements and agree key priorities. The Regional Leadership Council (RLC) is the vehicle that oversees and shapes our regional priorities and we continue to welcome engagement from stakeholders at that forum. My focus in the new financial year will be to more actively engage with you to ensure the regional offer is meeting local demand. We do value your input so please feel free to get in touch.

As April races towards us our activity continues at pace with the inaugural Inspiring Leaders Network Symposium, and the launch of the i-Lead Alliance in May, as well as an office move from Blenheim House to re-join our LETB colleagues at Willow Terrace, Leeds. Phew one of these days we may catch our breath!

Regional NewsClinical Leadership Development

Clinical coaches and mentors have been offered access to MBTI and 16PF training, that is often only available to corporate staff or beyond the reach of some organisations.

The places have been filled and training will take place in March. For further information contact Lisa Chan.

Early Clinical Leadership

The Early Clinical Leadership pilot in Hull and East Riding is well into its design phase now.

Principles have been agreed and options for a delivery approach will be discussed at the meeting in February. One of the great things about this work is connecting up the knowledge and talent available locally which will make this project really sustainable.

By bringing students together at such an early stage, the work will transform the workforce and provide a new type of leader fit for the future.

For further information contact Jane Pightling.

Regional NewsCo-Creation Network update

13th January we held the first Co-Creation Network “Basecamp”, facilitated by George Pór and colleagues from Future Considerations.

The day gave the emerging Communities of Practice the opportunity to come together and share learning; and new members of the Co-Creation Network were given an introduction to the work undertaken thus far, the chance to ask questions, and were able to join or start their own Community depending on where their passion lay.

Click on the images to the right to view Angela Green’s Introduction to the Co-Creation Network and a round up of activity from 13th January. For further information email Lucy Scarisbrick.

Invitation to the Co-Creation Network “Spring Basecamp”

We warmly invite you to join us for the next stage in the Co-Creation Network journey, Spring Basecamp to be held at the Met Hotel in Leeds on the 19th of March.

Since October 2014, we have been learning, connecting and sharing across the NHS our desire to improve experiences and outcomes for patients. Under the banner ‘The Co-Creation Network’ several Communities of Practice are growing and maturing into collectives of passionate people with a commitment to explore how to improve together. At Spring Basecamp we welcome all who are already involved in a Community of Practice to join us for the day, and extend the invitation to those who would like to learn more, start their own Community, or are thinking about joining an existing one. During the day we will have the opportunity for the Communities to hear from renowned speakers including patient leadership experts, mindfulness practitioners and experienced Community of Practice leaders.  In the evening, Spring Basecamp turns into a celebration of the expedition so far. The Communities and those who have recently attended the Jönköping Microsystem Festival in February 2015 will educate, entertain and inspire us in a powered by PechaKucha event, curated by the Sheffield City Organisers. We invite all colleagues from Health and Social Care to join us as we launch the Co-Creation Network into the wider world. Register your attendance online here or contact Lucy Scarisbrick for further information.
