She said: “The diets were justunrealistic, so inevitably I failed.”

She discovered her neighbour’sdaughter ran a Slimming Worldgroup and was encouraged to at-tend her first groupmeeting.

Tracey said: “ I wasmade to feel welcomeand the consultant andthe other memberswere so encouragingand friendly.”

She said: “I never felthungry and could notbelieve how much Icould eat. If I wanted a treat, Icould have one using my dailysyn allowance. If I had a specialoccasion or was going out for ameal or a drink I could still fitthis into my plan and use flexiblesyns.”

Tracey achieved her target, los-ing 2½ stone. She was delighted.But instead of continuing to at-tend group as a free target mem-ber she thought she could go italone.

By 2007 her weight had creptback up so she returned to groupand was soon back on plan. Shereached her target and contin-ued to attend group.

a teenager, her weightwas never an issue. Shecould eat whatever andwhenever she wanted.

She married at 19 and weighed8½ stone but after having twochildren, she weighed 10 stone.

As a busy mum, her weightdidn’t seem a priority and Traceywould often skip meals andsnack on crisps and nuts.

But by the time she was in herthirties, 47-year-old Tracey, wholives in Flint, weighed 12 stone.

Although her weight wasn’t apriority, her confidence was atrock bottom.

Tracey said: “Ten years ago myhusband and I took a sailing hol-iday. I couldn’t really relax, as Iwouldn’t wear a swimming cos-tume or anything even slightlyrevealing. Photos were out of thequestion.”

On her return home Traceysaw a photo of herself – probablythe only one she’d allowed to betaken – and realised just howmuch weight she had gained,something she could no longerignore.

She weighed herself and wasshocked when the scales re-gistered 12stone 11lb, the heav-iest she’d ever been.

For several months, Traceytried fad diets, losing a few
