Superheroes are never late!

• Students may arrive as early as 7:15 a.m.• Students enter classrooms at 7:50 a.m.• Tardy bell rings at 8:00 a.m. (a student entering

the building any time after 8:00 a.m. will be counted tardy – parents must sign student in at the front desk)

3 or more tardies within a 9 week period will constitute an absence for the perfect attendance award.

Transportation Changes:

• Anyone other than the legal parent/guardian MUST be indicated on the emergency card in order to pick up a child.

• Changes in dismissal procedures require a written note from the parent / guardian. Notes should be given to the teacher first thing in the morning.

• Please DO NOT e-mail changes, as teachers check their e-mail at the end of the instructional day.

• For EMERGENCIES ONLY phone calls advising the office of transportation changes must be called no later than 1:45 p.m.

School day Visitors:

We follow the district policy for safety of our students and staff:

• Enter through front doors.• Sign in at reception desk.• Show driver’s license or Texas ID.• WEAR visitor badge.• Visitors must only visit location specified on badge.

Visits to classroom are permitted with prior approval by the principal at least twenty-four hours in advance.

Morning drop off procedures:

• Student Drop Off is in front of the school building ONLY beginning at 7:15 a.m.

• No staff member will be available to assist students out of cars until 7:30 a.m.

• Please pull up as far as possible in the car rider drop – off lane. Staff members are present to assist students starting at 7:30 a.m.

• Do NOT drop students off in the parking lot.

Afternoon Dismissal:

• Car riders - You will need a sign posted in your windshield with your child’s name and grade on it (even returning students).

• Walkers/Bikers – Teachers will walk students to the end of the driveway. Parents will meet them at the marquee. On bad weather days students will automatically be car riders.

• Day Care – Please notify your child’s day care if he or she is absent from school. Please notify your child’s teacher if there is a change in your child’s day care arrangements.

Lunch:

• Manage your child’s lunch account online at www.pearlandisd.org.

• Student lunches are $2.50; breakfast is $1.35.

• PIN# is the student’s school ID number

• Students are not allowed to charge lunches if there is no money in account.

• Free and Reduced lunch eligibility must be reapplied for at the beginning of each school year.

• Parents are welcome to eat with their child during their lunch time.

• Parents may begin eating lunch with their child on September 8th.

• Seating will be limited. All students will be seated first and guests are invited to sit in the remaining available seats.

Foods of nutritional value

• The Texas Department of Agriculture has created nutritional guidelines for Texas public schools. Schools may not provide foods of minimal nutritional value to students at any time during the school day, with the exception of the three authorized school parties.

• Birthday treats may not be given during lunch. Cupcakes will be allowed for student birthdays. Please drop off at the front desk with the child’s name and teacher’s name. The teacher will distribute treats to the students at the end of the school day. (No favors or balloons, please.)

• Snacks – Your child may bring a healthy, dry snack that is easy to eat (no utensils) and clear water please. Grapes, cheerios, crackers, vegetable sticks, granola bars, etc. are great choices.

The super hero uniform:

• Pearland ISD has established a standardized dress code for students. Please be advised that at each occurrence of dress code violation, the student will be issued a consequence.

• A copy of the dress code is available in the Pearland ISD Student Code of Conduct Handbook, as well as on the district web site. Additional copies may also be obtained at the front office as needed.

• Magnolia Spirit Shirts may be worn five days a week. College Shirts may be worn on Fridays only.

• We appreciate you working with us to make sure your child is in compliance.

• No light up shoes please.

The conduct/work habit card is sent home daily in your child’s homework folder. The weekly grades will be tallied on Fridays. Please sign the card when the grade is given.

Grading policy

• Daily grades and test grades will be taken in major content areas.

• Students who make below a 70 on any paper will correct the paper in class and can receive a grade up to a 70.

• Students are considered failing if they make below a 70% in Reading, Math and Language Arts at the end of the grading period.

• An overall average below 70% in any of these subjects at the end of the year will result in failure for the year which is retention.

• Late work/makeups will be completed in the classroom with the teacher.

Progress reports• Progress reports go home twice each grading period and

report cards at the end of the nine weeks. Please sign and return as quickly as possible.

• Computer generated• Skyward Family Access is available for parents to

check their child’s attendance and grades. It is the same log in for access to all of your children within our district. If you did not already receive log in information at Packet Return, please see me after the presentation.

Blue daily folder

• Generally, a homework packet is assigned Monday through Thursday and consists of assignments such as Spelling, Math and Reading. This is sent home in the Daily Folder the first day of the week.

• We encourage that your child reads for 20 minutes each night.

• You may also find the spelling words on the Peek of the Week.

• Please see the Spelling Menu for a list of activities your child can use to practice their words.

Red Tuesday folder

• Important notes and graded papers will be sent home every Tuesday.

• Please review the papers and return the empty folder by Friday.

• After you have reviewed the papers, please sign the slip in the Tuesday folder and return to school with your child.

• All other notes or papers are to be kept at home.

The vision for Pearland ISD’s Mobile Learning Initiative is the integration of technology-based activities into existing curriculum. Personal technology devices will be used to enhance the curriculum, not change it. Mobile learning will give teachers the opportunity to deliver the curriculum using different methods of teaching to increase student engagement and student academic performance. The curriculum will drive the use of technology and allow teachers and students to work and learn in a technology-rich environment.
