We’ll hear some of their thoughts about this nature wonderland, a place were “waterfalls spout backwards” according to mountain man Jim Bridger. As the federal government, through the Park Service, decides the future of Yellowstone Park, we can learn what the men of the 1800s envisioned for this showcase of nature’s wonders. Bell Ringer: The Invisible Brain Injury Airs 8pm Monday, June 11

Also 6/13 4am

Every year, as many as 3.8 million brain injuries occur in athletics in the United States, and they are more common among children and students than star athletes. Concus-sions are often talked about in professional football, but they can be a problem in any sport, and at any age. Bell Ringer: The Invis-ible Brain Injury dives into the complexities of the injured brain, examining what occurs in the brain during a concussion, how re-searchers are studying physical impact and neurological injuries, and the safe protocols for returning to play. Through eye-opening interviews with former professional players, including women’s soccer legend and two-time World Cup Champion Michelle Akers and three-time Super Bowl Champion Monte Coleman (both of whom suffered multiple concussions during their careers), as well as medical experts and renowned researchers, the documentary examines the short-term effects and long-term risks of concussions, raises awareness of the issue, and discusses the best ways to prevent them altogether.

GREAT PERFORMANCES AT THE MET

Tosca Airs 8pm Friday, June 15

Also 6/18 3am

Sir David McVicar’s ravishing production of Puccini’s classic Tosca, starring Sonya Yoncheva as the title prima donna alongside Vittorio Grigolo as her revolutionary artist lover Cavaradossi and Željko Lucic as chief of police Scarpia.

This production is set in 1800 Rome, where painter Cavaradossi helps the escaped political prisoner Angelotti hide from the police while his jealous lover, opera diva Floria Tosca, suspects him of being un-faithful. The sadistic chief of police Baron Scarpia, who is hunting the fugitive, longs for Tosca and vows to bend the singer to his will after arousing her jealousy. Scarpia suspects Cavaradossi of aiding the fugitive and has the artist arrested and tortured. A frightened Tosca reveals the political prisoner’s whereabouts, but when Cavara-dossi cries out in defiance of tyranny, he is carried away to be executed. In exchange for her lover’s freedom, Tosca promises her devotion to Scarpia, then kills him. Tosca informs Cavaradossi that he is free now, but before departing the city he must go through a mock execution, which ends trag-ically. Emmanuel Villaume conducts. Isabel Leonard hosts.

This program evokes the moment of the seminal Johnny Cash album “At Folsom Prison” in 1968 and places it in historical and musical context. When Cash took the stage on January 13, 1968, little did he know that the live album of that show would propel him to super stardom. That day’s events and the aftermath were career altering, making Cash a champion of the downtrodden as well as one of the more enduring forces in American music.

Dawn of Humanity Airs 8pm Wednesday, June 20

NOVA and National Geographic present exclu-sive access to a unique discovery of ancient remains. Located in an almost inaccessible chamber deep in a South African cave, the site required recruiting a special team of experts slender enough to wriggle down a vertical, pitch-dark, seven-inch-wide passage. Most fossil discoveries of human relatives con-sist of just a handful of bones. But down in this hidden chamber, the team uncovered an un-precedented trove—so far, over 1,500 bones—with the potential to rewrite the story of our origins. They may help fill in a crucial gap in the fossil record and tell us how Homo, the first member of the human family, emerged from ape-like ancestors like the famous Lucy. But how did hundreds of bones end up in the remote chamber? The experts are considering every mind-boggling possibility. Join NOVA on the treacherous descent into this cave of spectacular and enigmatic finds, and discover their startling implications for the saga of what made us human.

MAKE48Airs Fridays 9:30am and 3:30pm

on MontanaPBS Create

MAKE48 is an exciting look at the entire invention process from idea to store shelf. In this unique series, teams compete to develop a new product idea, plan it, make a prototype and pitch it—all in just 48 hours. In the first four episodes, the viewer is immersed in the action as the inven-tion process unfolds. With the constant pressure of the “ticking clock,” the teams brainstorm, design and build their ideas in order to pitch a working prototype to a team of industry-savvy judges. Industry A-listers roam the competition floor and give advice on all facets of product design and development, and a panel of industry experts weigh in on the prototype’s function and marketability. At the end of the second day, the field will be narrowed down to just three teams who advance on the path to market. Judges include: buyers from the home shopping channel QVC, Squatty Potty’s Judy Edwards (a Shark Tank mega-success), and Wet and Forget’s Adam Smith.
