Headteacher’s Corner Together apart. One of the ironies of this crisis is that although we are physically separated from our loved ones, many of us are finding that we’re spending more time “meeting” with them than ever before. All sorts of clever technology allows us to keep in touch. Of course, in order to talk you have to focus on a screen - and therefore avoid other distractions - and so there is an intensity and warmth about those conversations that isn’t there in day to day chatter. For many, although we are apart, we are more together than ever. However, there are others for whom this is very isolating - especially the elderly whose ability to host a Zoom meeting or Facetime their friends is sometimes limited. Perhaps this is something we could all help with? Imagine the impact if every pupil in the school wrote a letter or a card and posted it through the door of an elderly, isolated or vulnerable person in their neighbourhood. It doesn’t have to be long or brilliantly poetic - perhaps just a short note to wish them well, share a story of your day or tell them about life from a teenager’s perspective. Try it: your card could be the only contact they have in their day and you'll be amazed at some of the stories you’ll hear back. We’re all learning that there are personal benefits to showing kindness to others. This crisis is making us all feel a little down - we’re feeling what used to be called “blue.” Remember the old saying however, “When you’re feeling blue, find something to do for someone who’s feeling bluer than you.” Write a card: then like us lucky ones, others will feel together apart. Headteacher’s Corner

Together apart. One of the ironies of this crisis is

that although we are physically separated from

our loved ones, many of us are finding that we’re

spending more time “meeting” with them than

ever before. All sorts of clever technology allows

us to keep in touch. Of course, in order to talk you

have to focus on a screen - and therefore avoid

other distractions - and so there is an intensity and

warmth about those conversations that isn’t there

in day to day chatter. For many, although we are

apart, we are more together than ever.

However, there are others for whom this is very

isolating - especially the elderly whose ability to

host a Zoom meeting or Facetime their friends is

sometimes limited. Perhaps this is something we

could all help with? Imagine the impact if every

pupil in the school wrote a letter or a card and

posted it through the door of an elderly, isolated

or vulnerable person in their neighbourhood. It

doesn’t have to be long or brilliantly poetic -

perhaps just a short note to wish them well, share a

story of your day or tell them about life from a

teenager’s perspective. Try it: your card could be

the only contact they have in their day and you'll

be amazed at some of the stories you’ll hear

back.

We’re all learning that there are personal benefits

to showing kindness to others. This crisis is making

us all feel a little down - we’re feeling what used to

be called “blue.” Remember the old saying

however, “When you’re feeling blue, find

something to do for someone who’s feeling bluer

than you.” Write a card: then like us lucky ones,

others will feel together apart.

You Will Be Found

The teachers of Henley’s Faculty of Arts (plus a few

extras!) created a video over the Easter holidays,

which is a special tribute to all students. The creative

genius behind the idea said, “We’re no West End

stars (though some of us like to think we are) but we

wanted to do something to let you know we miss you,

can’t wait to see you all again, and that although

we’re a virtual family right now, ‘this too will pass’ and

before you know it, we’ll be together again.

In addition to teachers from Acting, Art, Dance,

English, Modern Languages and Music, there’s a very

special-guest cameo – can you guess who it is and

why they’ve been included?

As the lyrics say, ‘You are not alone… you will be

found... from across the silence, your voice is heard’.

We’re here for you, all of you… enjoy and thank you

for all the positive comments received so far.”

Future Pupil: Henry Jenkinson set to take on

challenge for charity.

Henry Jenkinson, who joins Henley-in-Arden

School in September and whose Dad is a

Trustee of Safeline, has put his running shoes on

to raise money so Safeline can continue to

support people affected by sexual abuse.

Henry’s aim for the challenge is to run a

marathon in five days, covering 5.3 miles a day

for five days.

His

challenge

will start on

May 4.

Any money

that Henry

raises will be

used to

provide

telephone support to Safeline’s clients who can

no longer access face to face services

because of the coronavirus lockdown.

Henry said: ‘"I will be running near my house

and each run will be my daily exercise, in line

with government guidelines. I do quite a bit of

sport including football, but have never run

long distance before. In fact I’ve probably

never run two miles in one go before, let alone

five miles every day for five days. I know I will

be able to do it. I have done a few short

practices with my Dad and things have gone

well”.

Henry has already smashed his target and has

raised £1,230! Well done and best of luck for

Monday! If you would like to support Henry with

his fundraising please donate on:

Tree Survey

We’re fortunate to have our own on-site

conservation area and expansive grounds.

Miss Smail and Miss Price have been leading

our three critical workers’ children on a socially

distant tree survey on our campus.

Foodbank Update

With immediate effect, Stratford upon Avon Foodbank will be distributing from the Stratford

Methodist church on an ongoing basis, due to having to relocate from its usual site at Tesco car

park. Details are below:

They will be distributing parcels from a table in the car park and clients will be requested to

queue with a 2 metre distance and bring bags if possible. In time, the Foodbank plan to move

their complete warehouse into the Wesley Hall situated within the Methodist Church Centre.

They are hugely grateful to the Rev. Audrey Simpson and Stratford Methodist Church for making

this happen without which they would have been struggling to continue to support those in crisis

in our town. For those people who may turn up at the cabin in Tesco car park, there will be a

poster on the door telling people where to go.

Any questions – please come back to Marion Homer, Foodbank Manager,

07736 611323 [email protected]

And remember… if you are lucky enough to be in a position to donate, you can always drop

your donations off at Henley in Arden School.

Sessions are as follows: This is the address:

Monday 5-6.30pm Methodist Church

Tuesday 12-2pm Old Town

Thursday 5 -6.30pm Stratford-upon-Avon

Friday 12 – 2pm CV37 6BG
