In 1929 Germany
suffered TWO disasters...
(1) Gustav Stresemann died. The ‘Golden Age of Weimar’ died with
him.
(2) 1929 Wall Street Crash – this was the
economic collapse of the USA

THE DAWES PLAN 1924
Hint: Think about where Germany was getting her
money from and WHO she was paying it to.
What PROBLEMS do you think the Wall Street Crash had on Germany? (think about where she was getting her money from to pay reparations).

HISTORIOGRAPHY (AJP TAYLOR)“It was the Great Depression that put the wind in Hitler’s sails”. (click me
for a short clip)
• The Wall Street Crash in 1929 had huge consequences for Germany.
• US loans dried up (loans that had saved Weimar) and unemployment soared – peaking at 5.5 million.
• People remembered the earlier problems and once again the democratically-elected government seemed unable to cope – many turned to extremist parties.
