Students, parents and teachers, along with all community members, are encouraged to: acknowledge that each individual is accountable for making a contribution to the benefit of the group, school or community; temper the negative aspects of competition; work together for a common purpose. Related words include: teamwork, collaboration and unselfishness. Cooperation is evident when an individual: appropriately contributes when working in a group; looks at situations from another person’s viewpoint; is willing to combine forces with others to complete a task or reach goals; accepts other’s ideas as worthy of consideration; shares credit for group accomplishments. May everyone contribute to and experience a high degree of cooperation as we focus on this theme in school, at home and in the community. IMPORTANT NEWS RELEASE ABOUT INTRADISTRICT OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR KENT CITY SCHOOLS Renewal Applications have been mailed to the homes of Kent residents who currently have a child enrolled through “Intradistrict Open Enrollment.” The “Intradistrict Open Enrollment” Policy for the Kent City School District establishes procedures for Kent residents to have their child attend an elementary school that is different from the neighborhood school in their assigned attendance area. These Renewal Applications will be accepted through April 2, 2013. Approval is on an annual, first come-first served, basis and is dependent upon available classroom space and parental transportation to the requested school. New Applications will only be accepted after April 2, 2013. If you are a Kent resident and are interested in applying for “Intradistrict Open Enrollment” for the next school year and receiving a copy of the specific guidelines, please contact the office.

KENT CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT SPRING BREAK Spring break for the Kent City School District is scheduled for March 25th through April 1st. Classes will resume on Tuesday, April 2nd. EARLY RELEASE DATE There is one remaining early release day for this school year and that date is: FRIDAY, APRIL 5TH Students in grades 1 through 5 will leave school at 1 p.m. Morning kindergarten will have classes as usual and there will be no afternoon kindergarten. Please mark your calendars. We hope that sharing this information with you now will help in making arrangements for your children. Teachers and staff will participate in in-service activities on these dates.

Spring Picture Day Wednesday, March 6th

Our spring picture day will be Wednesday, March 6th. Only those students who have turned in a flyer will be photographed.

Yearbook orders are being accepted until Monday, March 4th. Yearbooks are $9.50 and checks may be made payable to Holden Elementary.

TIME TO SPRING AHEAD Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 10th at 2 a.m. Please set your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night, March 9th! Newswise.com offers these simple steps to help children adjust to
