INVITE SOMEONE BACK TO CHURCH!!

DEAR PARISHIONERS: Did you notice the front of the bulletin? On the right side are two excerpts from this weekend’s Gospel. The Word of God concerns prayer, & we are given the great prayer of the OUR FATHER as a model for our daily praise of the God who gave us life. The challenge of the Gospel this week is to reflect upon the Lord’s Prayer. There is so much contained in it. Have you “taken apart” these beautiful words & medi-tated upon them? One suggestion would be to take a phrase a day & use it for prayer time. Too often we may just “mouth the words” of this prayer. We are called to have our hearts & souls attuned to the Father in heaven as we pray the words given to us by His Son. The Our Father is an example of a prayer that is very traditional. I remember my parents teaching me these words as I grew up. I remember praying it in Catholic grade school & high school. I remember praying it dur-ing Mass each weekend. I remember it giving me solace, strength, connection, hope, & peace. Do parents today teach their children this special prayer? Do families pray it together daily? Let us pause this moment & pray it aloud--- OUR FATHER, WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME; THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD, AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES, AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US; AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL. Don’t you feel better now? May your prayerful recita-tion of this prayer enrich your faith lives today & every day. AMEN! YOUR PASTOR, FATHER JOE

YEAR OF MERCY REFLECTION FOR July 23/24

Ask. Seek. Knock. Do you know someone who is just so relentless? He tirelessly makes his point! She keeps at it and does not back down. They ask … and ask again … and yet again! Abraham, the merciful one, is just like that – reread of his persistence in Genesis 18:20-32. The friend is just like that, too, in Luke 11:1-13. And Jesus tells all who hear, and that is us today as well, be just like that in addressing God. Ask. Seek. Knock. Few words, fewer actions, great persistence.

• How will my prayer be persistent this week?

• For whom and for what will I pray?

• How can I respond like God and open my door (and

my heart), give food to the hungry, bargain for the inno-

cent?
