DEAR HOLY FAMILY PARISHIONERS: This is the time of year when fall sports are gearing up at our grade, high, & college schools. Now is the time for practice after practice. The players have to get conditioned for their respective sport & position. They train to be the best they can be. What if we took what we see on the field or on the court or in the gym & apply it to our faith lives? Do we PRACTICE our faith as we should? Have we CONDITIONED ourselves to be strong against our opponent---the devil? Are we TRAINING each day to be fit when it comes to our faith health? Are we a TEAM PLAYER who gives our all for the good of the entire Catholic Church? Have we SWEAT in our faith, meaning we have toiled as much as we could/should have? Sports is a big part of our economy & culture. Sports reigns supreme, at times. Sports help a lot of young peo-ple to mature & be responsible. Wouldn’t it be great to capture that discipline that sports require & apply it to our Catholic faith? Let us PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE our faith this week & every day. Our TRAINING is on-going. It does not stop at the end of a season. Our GAME PLAN is to get to heaven by being the best we can be here on earth. YOUR “TEAMMATE,” FATHER JOE . P.S. Chris Bivens, a new member of our parish, met with me recently & shared a retreat opportunity that is available for all Catholics, post-high school age & above. It is called WATCH--We Are The CHurch! It is a spiri-tual renewal weekend in Chatham, IL, from Oct. 6-8. It is not an overnight retreat, but one you attend & then go back to your home each night. If you are looking for such a weekend to deepen/enliven your faith, call Chris at 971-1812 for more information. ALSO, Chris is a re-cruiter for the Knights of Columbus. If you are a man who is interested in becoming a Knight & being of ser-vice to your Church & parish, call him & he will be happy to meet with you.

ADORATION on Thursdays here will be-gin again on September 14th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please sign up for a 30-minute slot on the sheet in the vestibule. Any questions, call Sandy Yelovich, 855-1196.

PARISH MISSION THIS FALL!: Mark your calen-dars NOW for Sept. 10-12 for our next Parish Mission. Each night at 6:30 we will have one of our former dea-cons, now priests, enlighten us. Fr. Marty Smith, Fr. Braden Maher, & Fr. Michael Friedel will be our leaders!

“Thirsting for God?”: Do you know someone not bap-tized or baptized in a non-Catholic Christian tradition, who is thirsting for what it means to become Catho-lic? Do you know someone already Catholic but has not yet received Confirmation & Communion? They may be thirsting too! The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a place to ask questions and seek understand-ing. Weekly “no obligation” inquiry sessions start in mid-September. Please direct questions to Sr. Janet at [email protected] or 217-423-0240.
