PRESIDENTS MESSAGE (continued from page 1)

and unity. The IOA Board of Trustees and our executive director are committed to supporting osteopathic principles in Indiana. Our battles are different than those fought in the past but no less important. Not only does the IOA provide low cost excellent continuing medical education programs, they work hard to support legislation to preserve and protect our rights as osteopathic physicians. Today, because of the IOA, Indiana has a great path laid before us. We were honored to have Marian University join our osteopathic family when we agreed to support the incredible joint endeavor to establish a college of osteopathic medicine in Indiana. It was with great excitement that the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine recently was granted pre- accreditation status from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association and is moving forward to seat the first class in 2013. They are truly a top notch group of people that I have been so proud to be associated with. We need each other. We need to be united together for the future of our state and for the future of osteopathic medicine. It concerns me that only 50% of the D.O.s in this state are members of the IOA, your organization that promotes and protects the one thing that has given you so much in your life. I pledge to use this year not only to increase the membership of the IOA but to create a cohesive group of D.O.s across this state. I urge every D.O. in this great state to join the IOA, to give back to the profession that has given you so much, and to continue the teachings that those founding osteopathic physicians worked so hard to promote. We need to be unified now more than ever to ensure that future Indiana osteopathic medical students, interns and residents learn the importance of osteopathic medicine--the importance of touch. If you are not a member of the IOA, I ask you why not? If you know a fellow colleague that is not a member, urge them to join. If you or someone you know would like to become more involved in the IOA, please feel free to give me or the IOA office a call. I look forward to the coming year and working for all of you. Yours in Osteopathy,

David L. Coil, D.O. IOA President

AIOA NEWS I am honored to continue serving as president of

the Advocates to the IOA (AIOA). Advocates activities at the recent Annual Convention were great as usual. I always enjoy spending time with the spouses/guests and children.

Thank you to everyone who helped with preparations for our dinner and silent auction on Friday evening. Thank you, too, to everyone who participated on Friday evening. Between the silent auction and the raffle, the Advocates were able to raise over $5,000. The money raised will go to the Motyka Dannin Foundation to fund forgivable loans to Indiana students in osteopathic medical school.

I again would like to invite all spouses and others who choose to support and promote the osteopathic profession to join the AIOA. As Ive mentioned many times I am certain you will have a good time and make some new friends. More importantly, with more members we can be of even greater service. Please contact Debbie Coyle at the IOA office to receive an application, or download an application at www.inosteo.org by clicking on Advocates to the IOA under the Related Organizations tab.
