MESSAGE TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF SENIORS

As we near the end of our High School career and prepare for our future, there are many

important announcements, handouts, and dates to remember. Seniors, it is imperative that you pay

close attention to announcements so you are current with the pertinent information that directly

affects you and your family. Parents and guardians, please check with your student periodically to

learn of new information. Question them and keep after them to provide you with needed

information. We all want the award assemblies, senior banquet, and graduation to run smoothly so

we can all enjoy, appreciate, and celebrate your High School accomplishments but we cannot do it

without you. If you or your student has any questions regarding senior information, please see Ms.

Tompkins in the Main Office or call her at 739-5601, ext. 1601.

ENGLISH DEPT STANDARD FOR UNPREPARED FINAL EXAM SPEAKERS

To arrive to class unprepared for a scheduled final exam speech is to willingly accept a grade

of zero for the speaking assessment. NO MAKEUPS are to be granted to unprepared speakers.

Should a student elect to be truant from class on the day that he/she is scheduled to present the final

exam speech, teachers are asked to follow the Faculty Handbook which states: "a grade of zero will

be recorded for missed quiz or test." The only accepted excuse is a legal excuse for one's absence on

file in the attendance office that can be confirmed.

from seven counties in New York and Pennsylvania during the 2011 Scholastic Art

Awards Ceremony.

More than 600 works of art were entered this year, and winners were chosen by

a jury of professional artists, curators and teachers.

The works of five students, including Horseheads eighth-grader Olivia Piazza and

senior Tyler Morley, were named American Vision Awards recipients as best-in-

region. They will compete in a special category at the national level.

Artwork of 13 students from this region will advance to compete nationally. Along

with Olivia and Tyler, work from Hannah Edgerly and Connor Hogan

from Horseheads High School will compete at the National Scholastics

Competition.

In addition, two Horseheads High students were awarded with Matthias Arnot

Society Awards: Caleb Harrington and Caitlin Kohan.

The national Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program was started in 1923, and

recognized exceptional student artists in 19 categories including video,
