BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM

Students are explicitly taught the skills of collaboration throughout the course and are required to complete a number of group activities and assessments. Students come to understand how working with others enhances their own learning. They reflect on their individual and group performance and set goals for further improvement.

STUDENTS ARE EXPLICITLY TAUGHT HOW TO THINK AND COLLABORATE.

Students in LEAF have demonstrated exceptional improvement in their NAPLAN results from year 7 to 9. The table below shows the number of years growth our 2019 Year 9 cohort have achieved since their tests in year 7 2017.

Strand R W S G&P NNation 2 2 2 2 2LEAF 2.99 3.95 2.56 3.44 2.94

STUDENT SUPPORT

Students are expected to maintain high standards academically and behaviourally. Results are formally reviewed each reporting period and students not meeting these expectations are supported through our Performance Monitoring Process.

PREPARE YOURSELF FOR JOBS OF THE FUTURESixty years ago it took 25 years for human knowledge to double. Today, knowledge doubles every 13 months. IBM has predicted this doubling will reduce to as little as every 12 hours with the effect of the internet of things and Artificial Intelligence. Kurzweil wrote in 2001 that every decade our overall rate of progress was doubling, meaning “We won’t experience 100 years of progress in the 21st century—it will be more like 20,000 years of progress (at today’s rate).” The world is on the cusp of the 4th industrial revolution!

The LEAF Program engages students with an integrated approach to learning, recognising the underlying relationships between English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities. Learning experiences are designed using authentic learning contexts and pedagogies that develop students’ 21st Century Skills. Students in the LEAF Program acquire substantial subject-specific knowledge base before applying these learnings to tasks with real world implications, often linking with the wider community. The LEAF Program encourages students to invest in the learning process, embracing setbacks as part of the journey and understanding that assessment is the measurement not the end goal of the process. Through the program, students will appreciate that learning

excellence comes from commitment to hard work and an intrinsic love of learning. The aim is for students to grow as independent learners and adaptive problem solvers, activating the full scope of their creativity to uncover and implement novel solutions.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Leaf students study integrated units of work aligned to the Australian Curriculum areas Maths, Science, English and Humanities.

Students stay as a group in these classes for year 7-9 and are nurtured in a safe but academically challenging environment to achieve to the best of their abilities, often exceeding their expectations.

Whoever is not acquainted with foreign languages knows nothing of his own. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe 1749 - 1832.
