2. 2. Step 1: Remove Sod A rotary clothesline needs a secure footing to stay upright. This is achieved by embedding the base tube receiver in concrete or plaster. The first step it to cut through the sod with a spade. Remove the cut sod but keep it nearby for use later, and loosen the earth underneath with a crowbar.
3. 3. Step 2: Dig Hole We are using a quick-setting post fixing compound (post mix), and the dimensions of the required hole are found on the side of the bag. Dig the hole to the required depth. Try not to disturb the sides of the hole as you dig down.
4. 4. Step 3: Fill Hole with Post Mix Fill the hole with the dry compound as per the manufacturer's instructions.
5. 5. Step 4: Position Receiver Tube Push the short receiver tube into the dry mix and position the top of this tube just below ground level.
6. 6. Step 5: Add Water Using a watering can, wet the dry mix as per the manufacturers instructions.
7. 7. Step 6: Level Receiver Tube Use a spirit level to check the receiver tube is level. This is important to ensure your clothesline will be perfectly upright.
8. 8. Step 7: Replace Sod Replace the sod you removed in step 1 and press into place.
9. 9. Step 8: Install Clothesline Some post mixes will harden very quickly but concrete will need to be left for a couple of days to ensure it is properly cured before installing the clothesline.
