Players, parents and coaches of Ballard Memorial High and Ballard County Middle schools’ volleyball teams met on Nov. 15 to celebrate the program’s best season ever. The team fin- ished the year with its high- est rankings ever, ranked second in the 1st Region in Kentucky Volleyball Coaches’ Association polling, and 38th overall in the state. Awards were given to the following players: Middle School – White team Hustle Award, Makayla Dowdy; Serving Award and MVP, Alexis Donelson. Green team Hustle Award, Marybeth Myers; Serving Award, Tessa Blankenship; MVP, Lindsey Miller. Freshman – Most im- proved, Kristen Compton; Serving Award, Jasmine Brooks; MVP, McKenzie Scott. Junior varsity – Most im- proved, Jillian Babb; Serv- ing Award, Rebekah Hogancamp; MVP, Madison Trusha Varsity – Serving Award, Jade Tilford (95.2 percent serving); Defensive Player of the Year, Taylor Foster (team-high 189 digs); co MVPs Jade Tilford (744 as- sists, 77 digs, 59 kills, 14 blocks) and Cydnie Wiggins (led team in kills with 346, second in digs with 169, 90.6 percent serving); Coaches Award, Elizabeth Goodin (second in kills with 330, third in digs with 130, led team with 60 blocks, 54 aces). by Tim Taylor KPI Staff Writer The Ballard Memorial football program held their 2012 banquet to honor their middle school and high school teams on the 2012 season. The banquet was held at the school cafeteria on Monday night, November 19th with the meal prepared by Pizza Hut. Second year coach John Elliott and Prin- cipal David Meinschein gave the opening comments be- fore eating. Barlow First Baptist Church Youth Minis- ter Scott Fickes was recog- nized with a plaque for his Thursday devotionals he held with the team, and then Fickes said the blessing for the food. After the meal, the awards and recognition ceremony began. Cheerleading sponsor Lauren Pace recognized the cheerleaders for their contri- butions for the year and the endless hours they put in throughout the season. Middle School sponsor Courtney Polivick did the same recognition for the mid- dle school cheerleaders. Many of the behind the scenes personnel were recog- nized with Mrs. Allardin starting with her trainers that helped take care of the team during practice and on game day. Coach Kennedy recog- nized the student managers that helped keep the team hy- drated during time outs and ran errands for the team throughout the season as well as James Tyson for filming the games and the Advance Yeoman for the cov- erage provided to the team during the season. Anissa Johnson took time to pay tribute to all the unspoken heroes that also made contri- butions to the team. Coach Bledsoe introduced the middle school team mem- bers with Coach Elliott in- troducing the JV team, followed by the varsity team, and then the four seniors in attendance. Those four sen- iors that put on a Bomber uniform for the last time this season were Chris Tyson, JayBo Sadler, Alex Dunn, and Mason Weir. The following awards and recognitions were presented: Channel 6 Player of the week Nominees: Mason Weir and Devoun Bledsoe Channel 6 Player of the Week Winner: Mason Weir Ed Adami Academic Award: Alek Hugen Ben Sydboten Award: Chris Tyson Fan of the Year: Eric Overby Coaches Award: Jamie and Ashley Bray Champions Club for At- tendance: Colin Garner, Dustin Bowles, Dre Bledsoe, Alex Dunn, Hunter Bell, Alek Hugen, Kole Williams, and Shawn Johnson. 600 LB Club: Alex Dunn, Colin Garner, Cody Thomas, Aaron Barbee, Chris Tyson, Trevor Langston, Dustin Bowles, Ethan Dunning, and Alek Hugen 800 LB Club: Shawn Johnson 100% Club: Alek Hugen Varsity WKC, Western Kentucky Coaches, Award Winners: Trevor Langston, Devoun Bledsoe, Shawn Johnson, Ethan Dunning, Mason Weir, Chris Tyson, and Cody Newton Middle School WKC Award Winners: Quincy Bell, Tyrell Byas, and Austin Cook The team accomplish- ments that were discussed were the seven wins on the year, which was the first time since 2002 the football team had won more games than they had lost. They won their last ever meetings with Heath and Reidland, and made the Class 2A playoffs for the first time. They made the playoffs in a tough five team district that also included Caldwell County, who will be competing in the state championship game on Sat- urday, December 1st. Foot- ball booster club President Ken Johnson also took time recognize the other booster officers and especially thanked Sonya Windt and Ryan Jackson for keeping the grill going at all the home football games, and Stephanie Hook for arrang- ing the concession stand du- ties, and James Tyson for his work on filming the games for the team. Johnson also discussed fundraisers per- formed this season to help raise funds for the football program. The football team invited everyone out to Betty’s Restaurant in Barlow on Sat- urday, January 19th for a pan- cake breakfast fundraiser. The night concluded with an- nouncing the Bomber Strength Program starting on Monday, November 26th and the team’s motto heading into the offseason, “Work Wins”. A team highlight film was shown as everyone was leaving as a reminder of the great season that saw the team go 7-4 on the year as they already start preparing for the 2013 season which gets under way in nine months.
