2. Removefacenut(Item4).3. Turndrivescrew3to4turnsclockwisetoraisesplitthrustwasherondrive

screwassemblyslightlyabovethefaceofthehydrant.4. Graspthedrivescrewandpulloutward.Thedrivesleeve,rodandplunger

shouldslideeasily.5. Markthepositionoftheplunger(Item9)ontheoperatingrod(Item3).

Unscrewanddiscardtheoldplungerfromtheoperatingrod.6. Screwthenewplungerontotherodatthesamepositionastheoldplunger.

Usethreadlockingcompound(suchas“Locktite”)wheninstallingthenewplungerontotherod.

7. ReplacetheO-ring(Item5)onthedrivesleeve(Item10).8. Replacethedrivescrew,drivesleeve,operatingrod,plunger,retainerseal

andfacenut.Tightenthefacenutsnugly.Donotovertighten.9. Turnwatersupplyonandoperatehydranttobesureitworksproperly.

REPAIRINSTRUCTIONS

1. Withwatersupplyturnedoff,openhydranttofullopenposition(rotatekey5to6turnscounter-clockwise).

2. Removefacenut(Item4).

3. Turndrivescrew3to4turnsclockwisetoraisethrustwasherslightlyabovefaceofhydrant.

4. Using(2)screwdrivers,prybetweenthethrustwasher(Item2)andfaceofhydrantuntilthemechanisminsidereleases.NOTE:Thisdoesnotrequiregreatforce.Themechanisminsidewillreleasewithonly¿ "to¼"ofmovement.

5. Graspthedrivescrewandpulloutward.Thedrivesleeve,rodandplungershouldslideeasily.

6. Unscrewtheoldcartridgeassemblyfromoperatingrodanddiscardentirecartridgeassembly.DONOTREUSEACARTRIDGEONCEITHASBEENFULLYINSTALLED.THERETENTIONFINGERSNAPSWILLNOTRETAINTHEASSEMBLYINTHEVALVEBODYANDWILLCAUSEPREMATUREFAILUREOFTHEVALVEMECHANISM.

7. Screwanewcartridgeassemblyontoroduntilplungeriswithinlastthreethreads,(SeeFig.2)

8. ReplacetheO-ringonthedrivesleeve(Item3).

9. Reassemblythedrivescrew,drivesleeve,operatingrod,cartridgeassembly.Insertthisassemblyintothehydrantwiththesquareofthedrivesleevealignedwithitssquarebore.Grasptheheadofthedrivescrewwithpliersandgentlypushandpulltheassemblytocheckforcartridgefingersnapengagement.Youshouldbeabletopushandpullthedrivesleeve easily back and forth approximately ∫” between hard stopsateachendofthestroke.Iftheentireassemblycomesbackoutwhenyoupullduringtest,thecartridgeisscrewedtoofarontotherod.Unscrewthecartridgeonerevolutionandreinsertandpush/pulltestagainforproperengagement.

10. Unscrewthedrivescrewfromthesleeve.Installnylonretainerseal,drivescrew,andfacenut.Operatehydrantfullyopenandclosedtocheckfornormaloperation.

11. Turnwatersupplyonandoperatehydranttoverifyproperoperationandshut-off.NOTE:Afterclosing,itmaytakeaminuteorsoforthebodycavitytodraincompletely.Allowdrain-downtimebeforeyoucheckforslowleaks.

NOTE: Waterflowshouldbeginwhenkeyisturned2½to3½fullturns.Ifnot,thisindicatesthatthecartridgeisscrewedtoofarontooperatingrod.Tocorrect,repeatstepsaboveandwhendisassembled,unscrewthe cartridge from operating rod 1˚ turns. Re-lubricateo-ringswithvaselineorParkerO-Ringlube,reassembleandtesthydrant.Waterflowshouldoccuratnormalopeningposition.

Wadehydrantsseldomrequiremaintenance.However,continuousdrainagefromtheoutletisasignalthatinspectionandpossiblereplacementofthesealingpartsisinorder.

Theprocedureformaintenanceisasfollows: 1. Shutoffwatersupplytothehydrantandturnthehydranton

torelievepressure. 2. Removethestembushingnutbyturningcounterclockwise

withawrench.Note:EarlymodelsoftheW-8620,W-8625,W-8630andW-8635Enviro/GardwallhydrantsrequireaÁ "Allenhexwrenchtoremovethestembushingnut.Forlatermodelsusea1À "socket.

3. Firmlygraspthewormstemwithgrippliersandpulltowardyou.

4. Replacewornpartswithnewpartsasrequired.Severalrepairkitscontainingallpartsnecessaryforthismaintenanceareavailable.Refertopages4-29forhydrantidentificationandrequiredrepairkit.

5. Reassemblehydrant,reversingtheproceduresinsteps1-4.Useasiliconlubricantonallneoprenepartstoeaseassembly.

6&7: Photosbelowshowsequenceandtoolsrequiredtotakeapartthecontrolrodassembly.Leftphotoshowsremovalofwormanddrainportsleeve;rightphotoshowsremovalofplunger.
