Agenda• What is Financial Reports FR and Smartview ?• Is it better to use FR or Smartview ?• Presentation of your Financial data using either one or both• Key features in FR• Tips using Smartview• Common errors in FR and Smartview• Deliver reports in a timely fashion• Provide flexible output and delivery• Ensure timeliness and accuracy of your reports• Automate your FR reports using scheduler• Utilize Smartview options, grids, ribbon, health check and other great features

What is Financial Reporting (FR)• FR comes with your Hyperion suite to design and deliver

standard Financial reports by utilizing a reporting template• FR Studio is a desktop client for Windows 32/64 bit• FR Web Studio released with patch 11.1.2.4.702• Similar in look and feel to the Windows-based FR

Studio, Financial Reporting Web Studio incorporates usability improvements and updated report design paradigms

• Several services use Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting Web Studio;– Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud– Planning and Budgeting Cloud– Financial Consolidation and Close Cloud– Profitability and Cost Management Cloud– Tax Reporting Cloud

FR options• Financial Reporting does not have Excel options i.e., users do

not have the ability to edit or modify value• It does have the advantage of offering drill-down in the hierarchy

structure and investigations through related content to link a value to another report view

• FR reports can be migrated between your Dev/QA/Prod environment by using the Export/Import features

FR Design• Financial Reporting is most efficient when

used for standard reports used by Corporate Finance throughout the course of business. – The biggest reason for use FR is that in

maintaining financial reports, changes to dimensions and hierarchies are going to occur during the course of business

– FR is built using a function relationship of parent to child, so it can dynamically present the child to parent every time a report is run

– If one or the other is added or removed, FR will automatically adjust to show the correct lines

FR Benefits• Schedule your FR report for online delivery such

as email• Send alerts when reports are ready• Create and save batches of reports in a

repository or as HTML or PDF• Schedule your FR reports on

Daily/Monthly/Quarterly• Create books of related reports

FR Benefits• One of the main benefits of Hyperion

Financial Reporting is that it brings both automatic calculations as well as conditional suppression which are great for filtering and focusing the reports

• It also comes with a very useful interface which is object based and that allows you to combine images, data, text, graphs, and charts in a very useful and intuitive manner

• Hyperion Financial Reporting even provides a complete library that includes report components which can be used time and time again, making it much easier to streamline and improve the overall reporting experience for any type of company

FR options• Database Mappings• Member Formulas• Member Selection• POV (User Preferences;

Important NOTE)• Rolling Periods• Using Substitution Variables

FR preferences• Explore:

– Click on SELECT button and find the directory you want as your start directory when you enter Financial Reporting

– In this case, the start directory is set to: /Corporate Account Reports New

FR preferences• Only change here is Default Preview

Mode. (Note: if you set to PDF Preview, you will not be able to use expansion)

FR Batch ReportsYou should now be returned to the Batch Scheduler window. Here you will be able to see the status of the batch report. The statuses you will see are:Pending: This means that your batch is scheduled to run at a later. If you would like the batch to run at a different time, you will need to go into the properties and set the time accordingly as noted above. Running: This means the reports are being generatedSuccessful: This means that your reports are available in the destination folder you had selected. Note that the status will only change to “Successful” after all reports have been generated

To refresh the status of the report, click on the button The Status column will update momentarily

Running FR Reports in HFMExploreClick on SELECT button and find the directory you want as your start directory when you enter Financial ReportingIn this case, the start directory is set to: /Corporate Account Reports New

Running FR Reports in HFMTo run a report, you have 3 options

1. Double Click on the report (Default preference will be used: either HTML or PDF)

2. Right click and choose HTML or PDF

Once report is launched, you will be presented with the POV (Point Of View) box where you select the dimension members required for that report. Each report will have different POV requirements.

In this case only the Period and Year are required. Either type in the member you want or click on Select to choose from the dimension. Click OK.

Depending on the report, this can take a few seconds, the Processing – Please Wait box appears. You can cancel the report at this time and return to the directory

What is Smartview ?• MS Office add-in that provides Excel users with unique abilities to

connect to their Hyperion applications (HFM/HP/Essbase)• Ad-hoc analysis and formula based data retrieval • Non-EPM based data or calculations can be incorporated with

your Ad-hoc Smartview template• Move dimensions on the fly• Re-pivot your POV(Point of View) as you feel fit• Refresh your Excel sheets while data changes in your

applications• Great tool for Financial Analysts, Power users and Management

Smartview Add-on Ribbon

Smartview - Options

Smartview and Planning• Navigate to Hyperion Planning • Drill down into your application• View Forms• View Task Lists

Smartview Extensions – Manage Journals

Smartview – Diagnostics Toolbar• Smartview Options Advanced Show Diagnostics Group on Smart View Ribbon• You will notice the Start/Stop Diagnostics buttons get enabled• You have various options to Mask Data or Members, and what you should send as errors• Once done, then click on Stop Diagnostics and click on Clear Diagnostics Folder to clear the data logs.

Log files are saved in this folder C:\Users\username.domain\AppData\Roaming\Oracle\SmartView\Diagnostics

Smartview – Latest version as of Dec 2018• New Features in Release 11.1.2.5.810• EPM Cloud Features• The new features described in this "EPM Cloud Features" section are supported by

these Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud services:– Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud– Oracle Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud– Oracle Financial Consolidation and Close Cloud– Oracle Tax Reporting Cloud

• The new features are:– Drill-Through to Excel Sheets from EPM Cloud– Improved Performance for Composite Forms with Modified Data– Attaching Files to Cells in Forms and Ad Hoc Grids

Smartview – Performance and Timeout• Tuning parameters to improve Smartview communication with Hyperion Planning, when using

Webforms:– Add the following Windows registry settings on the client machine where Smartview is

deployed:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]

• "ReceiveTimeout“ = DWORD Value 480000"KeepAliveTimeout“ = DWORD Value 180000"ServerInfoTimeout“ = DWORD Value 180000

• Change Smartview Options to improve performance on large retrievals:– In Formatting: Select the option to Use Excel Formatting. Without this option, Smart View will

reformat each cell based on the grid operations you perform. It will also mark cells as “dirty” each time you change data values. These activities add system overhead to all Refreshes, making them take longer.

– In Advance -> Compatibility: Select the option Improve Metadata Storage– In Data Options: Select Suppress No Data/Missing, Zero

• In Excel -> Tools -> Save tab, disable the 'Save Auto-recover info every' which can have a negative impact on large queries that take time to render.

Smartview – Outlook and slow performance• Enabled Smartview for Outlook

– Causes Outlook to slow down or crash

– To fix this; Disable the flag for displaying Smartview in Outlook

– Open Smartview in Excel• Goto Options• Advanced option • Click on Disable Smartview in

Outlook• Restart Outlook

Smartview – Excel Formatting and Performance option• Another good setting

recommendation is– In Options– Formatting tab, if you have

selected the 'Use Excel Formatting' option, then you should clear the 'Move Formatting on Operations' option for better performance

– Note the pop-up

Smartview – Shared and Private Connections• There are 2 types of connections in SmartView: Shared Connections and Private

Connections– Shared Connections

• Shared connections are stored in a central location and are available to multiple users through the Smart View Panel.

• You cannot add, edit, or rename shared connections, but you can save them as private connections, which you can edit and rename.

– Private Connections• Private connections are those that you create by saving a shared connection to your local

computer or by entering a URL to a provider that is not configured for shared connections. • When you create a private connection, it becomes the active connection.

Smartview – Cloud Connection URLs

• Smart View Shared Connection:– https://env-example-idDomain.dom1.oraclecloud.com/workspace/SmartViewProviders

• Smart View Private Connection:– https://env-example-idDomain.dom1.oraclecloud.com/HyperionPlanning/SmartView

https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/saas/enterprise-performance-management-common/cgsad/2_working_with_epm_clients_connect_url_syntax.html

Smartview – Member OptionsChange member and dimension options on the grid. Hover over the icon for more information

General – zoom in level default. Sets the option when youdouble click on a cell during Adhoc or click on the Zoom Inbutton

General – Member name Display. Sets how you would like members displayed inAdhoc operation and default when selecting members from the drop down lists inmember selector.

General – Indentation. Sets how multiple levels of dimension are indented whenlisted, indentation allows you to more easily tell which members areparents/subtotals.

None looks like this Sub items looks like this

Smartview – Member Optionsb. General – Ancestor Position. Sets how you would like

the starting point to be displayed - above the next levelor below the next level. (generally Bottom is preferred)

Bottom looks like this:

Top looks like this:

b. Member Retention – normal use would be “Include Selection”

i. Include Selection Display the selected member and the membersretrieved as a result of the operation.

ii. Within Selected Group Perform Adhoc operations only on theselected group of cells, leaving unselected cells as is. This settingis meaningful only when there are two or more dimensions downthe grid as rows or across the grid as columns. For Zoom, KeepOnly, and Remove Only.

iii. Remove Unselected Groups: For Zoom In or Zoom Out, removeall dimensions and members except the selected member and themembers retrieved as a result of zooming.

Smartview – Data OptionsChange data options on the grid. Hover over the icon for more information

Suppress Rows – which rows would you like not to show in Adhoci. No data/Missing – intersection has nothing in it (different from 0 as 0 is

a value)ii. Zero – the value of 0. (some cells might have .000001 which is

technically not 0 so will display)iii. No Access – Security classes control security so if you do not have access

to an intersection the “No Access” would display if you do not choose tosuppress it.

iv. Invalid – some intersections are invalid (Eliminations at Top member isinvalid)

v. Underscore Characters - supposed to suppress rows where membernames contain underscore characters. (tested and did not work)

vi. Repeated Members – when you have more than one dimension in eithercolumn or row, you can suppress members that repeat when you drilldown.

With Repeated members unchecked With it checked

Smartview – Suppress ColumnsSuppress Columns – choose which columns to suppress

Replacement – you can replace certain results with other values. This is helpful when doing Function SmartView and you have basicExcel formulas that will error if data is not numeric.

Options are for #Missing (default) or #NumericZero

#Missing option

#NumericZero option

NOTE: It is recommended NOT to change #NoAccess Label to#NumericZero since it could possibly produce incorrect results whenthere is data you do not have access to.Leave as #No Access to alert you to security issue.

Smartview – Mode (Data vs Calculation Status)

Mode - in most cases you will leave Cell Display as Data. You can change to Calculation status if you want to knowif the intersections you are looking at are consolidated.

Smartview – Cell StylesWhen doing an Adhoc SmartView, there are coloursassociated with the display. Changing cell styles willcontrol those colours. Click on EXPAND to show all styles. There are 2 parts to Financial Management – Member cellsand Data cells.

In an Adhoc SmartView, Members are blue colour, Data that is locked, datathat is read onlyChanging colours here will change them in the Adhoc display. You can restto default by selecting Default Styles.

Save all your Options as a default so that they will beused every time you start a new SmartView

Smartview – Health Check

As of version 11.1.2.5.810 Oracle has a higher default timeout value

Common errors in Smartview

• Smartview 9.x and 11.1.1.x– The request timed out. Contact your administrator to increase netRetrycount and

netRetryInterval” (Doc ID 744559.1)• Long Query In Smartview Fails

– Request Timed Out. Extend Internet Explorer Time Out Settings (Doc ID 1378803.1)• Smartview Timeout error

– The request timed out. Contact your Smart View client system administrator to extend your Windows Internet Explorer time out settings (ReceiveTimeout, KeepAliveTimeout, and ServerInfoTimeout)” (Doc ID 1953754.1)

Financial Reporting vs Smartview comparisonFinancial Reporting FR Smartview

Create presentation quality reports; preferred for external reporting Microsoft Excel Add-in, used for Ad-hoc analysis and Data validation

Compile separate reports in the repository into a book, which avoids the need to print each report individually

Drill down into the details of the data

Best to create standard reports such as Income Statement, Balance sheet and Cash flow statement

Re-arrange order of Dimensions, to obtain different views (Similar to Excel pivot table)

Web interface (Workspace) available to users to run reports Leverage Excel functionality such as formatting, formulas and cell references

Dynamically review consolidated financial results Merge HFM/HP data inputs into new worksheet and Submit data back to the source on real-time basis (Provisioning required)

Excellent with analyzing data quickly

FR reports can be opened in Smartview

Multiple product support drill through (HFM/HP/Essbase)

Choosing between FR Report and Smartview ReportCriteria FR Report Smartview Report

Public use FR reports are run from web URL, easy to share with everyone On network or C: drive, user must know where it is to open and update

Multiple reports Many different reports can be grouped into a book with table of contents. Book can be run into PDF and emailed

Possibly different workbooks, difficult to distribute as a group

Accuracy Reports use the hierarchy (i.e. select parent and report 1 level or multiple levels down). New members in the hierarchy will automatically be picked up and made part of the report

“Getvalues” is hard coded selections; new members would have to be manually added. Adhoc would have to be collapsed and “re drilled” to get new members

Suppression Rows or columns that have zero value can be suppressed making the report more relevant to the selections

“Getvalues” is hard coded selections; zero rows or columns would have to be left or deleted or hidden. Adhoc has suppression option

Maintenance FR reports are maintained by the same group who maintains the metadata. New Parent members that impact reports would be known and reports can be altered.

All user’s may not be aware of metadata changes. Best practice is to always have a check and make sure the rows and columns add to ensure nothing is missing. Adhoc may or may not pick up new members on “re drill”

Editing FR reports are secure and cannot be altered by the user running the report.

Unless the workbook is locked down, users can change formulas or type in values changing the integrity of the report

Printing FR reports are formatted for printing so they will always print properly with footer that will identify the source

Not always able to identify the source of the information or location of the report to rerun or update. User must format to print correctly

Customization FR reports are created for public use, sometimes the generic report does not meet every user’s needs or custom formula are required that cannot be done in Reporting Studio

Smartview reports are completely controlled by the user therefore can be highly customized

Comments FR reports are not editable so comments or commentary to describe situations is not possible directly in the report

Smartview is Excel so comments and remarks can be done directly on the report
