The growing popularity of cruise holidays over the past decade has seen a large number of Australians and New Zealanders opting for the well known benefits of a fully inclusive, luxury and affordable cruising holiday.

By the time she sails Down Under, she’ll be renewed with spa-inspired AquaClass® staterooms, the AquaClass signature restaurant, Blu, and the addition of verandas to her chic Celebrity Suites.

Celebrity Solstice is also on her way for the winter season of 2012, expanding the cruise brand’s global presence and popularity of the service, activities, cuisine, and stylish design further - the Lawn Club even has real grass on the lawn bowls rink! Both ships will be based out of Sydney - what a great way to experience the exotic beauty of Asia and the South Pacific!

At twice the size of most cruise ships currently based in Australia and nearly two-and-a-half times bigger

than the country’s largest hotel, Melbourne’s Crown Metropol, Royal Caribbean’s $500 million Voyager of the Seas will become the largest cruise ship ever to call Australia home when she arrives in Sydney next year.

Including itineraries across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific the 138,000 tonne mega ship carries up to 3840 guests and will embark on a five-month season after it reaches the Australian east coast in November 2012.

Boasting an on board ice rink and four-storey `main street’, an inline skating track, a 9-hole miniature golf course, a three-deck restaurant, two-level nightclub, a full-sized sports court and a 1350 seat theatre, the ship will sail out of Sydney and Fremantle.

Sailing the Indian and Pacific Oceans Voyager of the Seas will join other ships in the Royal Caribbean International’s fleet Down Under.

Radiance of the Seas and Rhapsody of the Seas will sail a mix of Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific itineraries, offering a wide selection cruises from 1-18 nights.

Carnival Cruise Lines has also announced that it will base one of its cruise ships full-time in Australia - the first time the cruise line has ventured into Australian waters.

Aimed at fun-loving Australians seeking vibrant, active holidays Carnival Spirit will offer a host of outdoor fun, including a 22 metre corkscrew water slide, four swimming pools, a miniature golf course, jogging track and a sports court.

Guests will have their choice of 16 lounges and bars, including a three-deck-high theatre, in addition to a two-level main dining room. The ship also houses a two-level health spa with wrap-around ocean views, plus an Internet café for those who cannot do without technology at their fingertips.

Carnival Spirit will be based at the only cruise facility east of the Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay’s Overseas Passenger Terminal.

Other cruise lines to take the hint are Cunard and Holland America.

Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 will begin her maiden Royal Circumnavigation of Australia cruise in 2012. This historic voyage will take place over 22 nights offering a selection of voyage segments including departures from Adelaide, Fremantle and Sydney. The first of many we are sure.

Holland America Line is also increasing its cruise offerings in the region in 2011 and 2012 with the introduction of a second cruise ship and more sailings.

MS Zaandam will now sail Australia/New Zealand, Great Barrier Reef, South Pacific and Asia itineraries, which will compliment MS Volendam’s current range of Australia/New Zealand and South Pacific cruises.

With a wide selection of onboard luxuries including champagne on arrival, a complimentary dining experience at the ship’s fine dining restaurant, The Pinnacle Grill, and a wine navigator pack to enjoy at your leisure Holland America is sure to win many hearts.

Round-trip cruises from Sydney in 2011/2012 include Asia; New Zealand - taking in Milford Sound, Fjordland National Park, Port Chalmers, Wellington and Auckland; and Australia and the South Pacific, visiting the Great Barrier Reef and a range of tropical ports in New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji.
