The first IGATEX Pakistan, held about 15 years ago,was the game changer for thetextile industry of Pakistan.Until then, there was no con-cept in Pakistan of a tradeshow dedicated to textilemachinery and technology.Despite Pakistan being one ofthe top 10 exporting countriesof textiles in the world, com-paratively few professionalswere able to witness the tech-nology innovations presentedat international exhibitions. The beginning of the 21st cen-tury was an exciting time for the textile industry of Pakistan

that was gearing up for theremoval of quota regimeunder the Multi FibreArrangement in 2005. TheMulti Fibre Arrangement(MFA) governed the worldtrade in textiles and garmentsfrom 1974 through 2004,imposing quotas on theamount developing countriescould export to developedcountries.

There was a frenzy ofinvestment activity and a raceto install the best machines tomeet the demand of textilesafter the global market fortextiles opened in 2005.About 5 billion USD worth ofinvestment was made by thetextile industry of Pakistanfrom 2000 to 2005 in antici-pation of the growingdemand for textiles. This wasthe opportune time to start atextile machinery exhibitionin Pakistan. IGATEX Pakistanbecame the pioneer exhibi-tion to bring the best that theglobal machinery industryhad to offer to our textilesector.

Today, IGATEX remainsthe foremost textile machineryexhibition organised profes-sionally by FAKT Exhibitionservices headed by Mr.Saleem Tanoli. The contribu-tion of IGATEX towards thedevelopment of textile indus-try in the last 15 years cannotbe denied.

According to Mr. AbbasMooraj, President TEXMAP,(Textile MachineryManufacturers andRepresentatives Association ofPakistan), IGATEX is the mostimportant exhibition of textilemachinery being organised inPakistan today. In fact,

IGATEX 2004 provided textilemachinery manufacturers andrepresentatives the right plat-form to launch TEXMAP asso-ciation twelve years ago. Interms of its importance forPakistan, according to Mr.Abbas Mooraj, IGATEX canbe considered a mini ITMA.

IGATEX 2016 boastsmore than 550 exhibitorsfrom 35 countries, who aredisplaying their state of theart machinery for Pakistan’stextile industry during 20-23April 2016. On the first dayof the show leading German,Japanese, Turkish, Italian,Swiss and European manufac-turers of textile machineryreported encouraging numberof qualified customers andinterested visitors. Oneexhibitor said that: For me itis not important to get a largenumber of visitors, but anumber of qualified visitors. Ican say that on the first dayof the show, we got few goodcustomers quite early in themorning and that was goodstart for our company.

Another exhibitor fromItaly said: IGATEX is of partic-ular importance as ITMA2015 held last November inMilan was considered as oneof the best ITMA's that haveever been held since 1951.Many visitors at IGATEX2016 on the first day of theshow expressed their satisfac-tion regarding the number ofexhibits and machines on dis-play. They were to able to wit-ness first hand the technologythat was unveiled in Milanduring ITMA and now pre-sented at IGATEX 2016. Formany of them IGATEX shall betime to consolidate the dealsand to finalise ongoing nego-tiations.

Pakistan TextileJournal is proud to be associ-ated with this important eventfor Pakistan since its inceptionin 2002. In 2012, PakistanTextile Journal undertook themonumental task of publishingthe first international qualityshow daily newspaper in col-laboration with FAKTExhibitions Services for three

consecutive days. IGATEXShow Daily is being distrib-uted every day from the edito-rial office located on site andall entrances and exits of theLahore Expo Centre. Theshow daily newspaper high-lights must see exhibits for theinterest of qualified visitors atthe show.

Pakistan Textile Journalcongratulates the team ofFAKT Exhibition Services andMr. Saleem Khan Tanoli fororganising once again an out-standing technology exhibi-tion for the textile industry ofPakistan and wishes all theexhibitors successful participa-tion at IGATEX.

Introduced for the firsttime in September 2015, thenew R9500terry is the race-horse when it comes to terryweaving. Itema, the first andforemost rapier terry loomproducer, carries on the excel-lence in this application of his-toric Sulzer and Vamatexbrands. Besides this stronginheritance, what makesR9500terry an extraordinaryweaving machine for terryweavers are the sturdy struc-ture and reliable mechanicalcomponents coming from theItema absolute best-seller, therapier R9500, and the excep-tional textiles results obtaineddue to an extensive and thor-ough R&D work. Unparalleledtextile quality is guaranteed

by a winning trio of innova-tive devices: the new positivepile back-rest roller, the newpile formation unit and thenew ground back-rest roller.Fulvio Carlo Toma, ItemaGroup Sales & MarketingDirector, in message com-mented: “The newR9500terry, after a fewmonths from market launch, already enjoys a spectacularmarket success. Orders arecoming in continuously fromPortugal, Turkey, China,Ethiopia, El Salvador, SouthKorea, Japan, just to name afew countries. The whirlwindmarket acceptance ofR9500terry is just a furthertestimony that innovation cou-pled with the strongest know-how in the market pays backwith enormous satisfaction.”

Always focused on theweavers’ needs, Itema con-centrated its R&D extensiveresearch to offer to the marketeven more efficient weavingmachines, where efficiencystands for increased perform-ances, reduced consumptionand enhanced user-friendli-ness.

ITMA in Milan was forthe German textile machin-ery producer Brückner inevery respect a completesuccess. The new corporatedesign perfectly underlinedthe guiding idea of the exhi-bition to provide for moresustainability in the produc-tion processes of the textilevalue-added chain. Thegreat number of visitors andthe quality of the discussionsexceeded the expectations.

According to Mrs.Regina Brückner, owner andCEO of the Brückner group, many projects have beendiscussed during the fair andtechnological solutions havebeen prepared together withour customers.

During the eight days inMilan, Brückner closed vari-ous deals in the double-digitmillion range. “The varietyof the projects is very pleas-ing,” adds Ms. VerenaRuckh in a message to tradepress and media: “Machinesfor finishing of woven andknitted fabrics, coating linesfor technical textiles andlines for the carpet industry.Brückner could score in allfields due to new technolo-gies and competent advisoryservice. And there was agreat interest for spare partsand the modernization ofexisting lines.”

The new and effi-cient stenter conceptPOWER-FRAME ECOLINE isan ideal innovation the fieldof coating technology. Theypresented the new applica-tion unit ECO-COAT, whichhas been developed particu-larly for minimum applica-tions.

This unit allows impreg-nation as well as applicationon one and on both sides ofthe fabric. The minimumapplication quantitiesrequired in the followingdrying processes clearly useless water, which has a posi-tive effect on the energy con-sumption at the respectivedryer.

ECO-MATIC software

New software tool ECO-MATIC is another highlightat IGATEX, which isexpected to receive excellentresponse by the customersduring the show. It supportsthe user and helps the opera-tor to question and checkagain and again the ongo-ing processes. This toolleads to a more efficient han-dling of the machine and theresources. The resultant opti-

mizations show significantsaving of resources and cost. This software function leadsto a clearly better under-standing of the relationbetween machine technol-ogy and finishing process bythe users.

“Our customers have atrue interest in sustainableproducts and know the bene-fits of long life cycle of ourmachines. In most cases theinvestment in high-qualitymachines turns out to beprofitable, due to the lowerconsumption of energy andspare parts as well as lowerthe maintenance costs overthe lifetime of thesemachines. The positive feed-back by our customers showthe success of our productdevelopment in the sustain-able, efficient and reliablemachines. We will conse-quently follow this way alsoin future. The IGATEX Show DailyTeam caught up with Mr.Saleem Khan Tanoli, CEO ofFAKT Exhibitions Pvt. Ltd, theorganizers of IGATEX duringthe second day of the show. His views are given here forthe interest of our readers.

Mr. Tanoli, what makesIGATEX different from otherexhibitions?

IGATEX Pakistan beingthe largest textile machineryshow in Pakistan createsbusiness opportunities andfurthers the growth in thetextile industry of Pakistan. This is the biggest show forthe textile sector in Pakistanand significantlyaccomplishes thenetworking needs of thecorporate world withdistinguished presence ofmajor textile industrystakeholders.

It is an international eventrecognized for its quality of

exhibitors and visitors. As inthe past, the event this yearintroduces high qualitymachinery, equipments andaccessories, which providebusiness opportunities andadds value to our exports.

Although FAKT is best knownas organisers of IGATEXexhibition. What more canyou tell us about FAKT?

It is not only an exhibitionorganising company. FAKT isa vision. It is my vision toenhance the image ofPakistan by holding interna-tional trade exhibitions of thehighest calibre for all sectorsof our economy. While weare the organisers of one ofthe largest textile machineryexhibition in the regionIGATEX, we also focus on thefast growing sectors ofenergy, food processing, packaging, safety-security,logistics, chemicals amongothers.

What is the key objectivebehind this?

We work for the industriesand with the industries. Ourgoal is to bring maximumnumber of international lead-ing companies to Pakistan indifferent industrial sectors andto show them a new face ofPakistan. When these foreignvisitors go back they takeback a very different and pos-itive outlook towardsPakistan. On the other handnot so many people are ableto attend international exhibi-tions such as ITMA. They gaingreat deal of knowledgeabout the global advance-ments in technology at theirdoorsteps through exhibitionssuch as IGATEX.

I can see a clear trendand a shift from general tradefairs to sector specific exhibi-tions. About 15 years ago, noone could think of a textilemachinery exhibition being

held in Pakistan. Today, notonly we focus on IGATEXwhich covers various sectors, but we are also focusing onsmaller but very vibrant sec-tors such as digital printing, sign and graphics industry. Therefore, first exhibition of itskind for Digital Printing andSignage industry, DPS Worldwas held last year success-fully.

More than 550 exhibitorsrepresenting 35 countries arepresent at IGATEX 2016.Leading manufacturers from

Germany, Switzerland,Turkey, Italy, China, Japanand other European andAsian countries are presentwith their machines.

The quality of an exhibi-tion can be judged by thequality of displays andexhibits. IGATEX is not a cat-alogue exhibition and that iswhy IGATEX attracts anumber serious visitors.

Various companiesdisplayed spinning, weavingand garment printing andembroidery machines.

Do you have any message forour readers who are alsoexhibitors and visitors?

I wish all the exhibitors

and visitors to IGATEX a very

successful and fruitful

participation. My wish is for

our industry to reach even

greater success in the years

to come. I believe in Pakistan

and will do my utmost to

present a positive and softer

image of Pakistan to the

world.

iTextiles highlights a fresh takeon antimicrobials

Karel Williams outlines thelatest product development fromDow Microbial Control in thequest to provide reliable odourcontrol and long lasting fresh-ness in technical textiles.

Uncertainty, it has beensaid, is the enemy of prosperity. That certainly reflects the situa-tion today as the world econ-omy continues its slow, unevenrecovery from the recession.

This anaemic, uncertainglobal economy is creating adilemma for many manufactur-ers of technical textiles, whofind themselves in a delicate bal-ancing act. On one hand, theycontinue to look for ways tostreamline their operations inorder to compete in today’sslow growth economy. At thesame time, they must invest tomeet the marketplace demandfor new, innovative, high per-forming products in order tomaintain customer loyalty.

Reliable odour control

The best of these manufac-turers have recognised andresponded to a growing trendamong consumers around theworld to assert greater controlover their personal and familywellbeing. An upshot of thistrend, which has evolved overthe past decade, has beenincreased demand for reliableodour control and long-lastingfreshness in technical textiles, aswell as other apparel.

To meet the needs of con-sumers, many manufacturersincreased their use of tradi-tional, silver-based antimicro-bial systems in their productionprocesses.

Many of these traditionalproducts, however, came upshort. Among their drawbackswere that they affected thecolour of fabrics, had limiteddurability and were costly anddifficult to handle in textile mills.

In 2009, Dow MicrobialControl, a business unit of TheDow Chemical Company, wasapproached by leaders of thetextile and apparel industrywho were seeking answers tothe problems with these silver-based systems. At the time,Dow Microbial Control had noexperience in textile andapparel markets, but hadcarved out a reputation forexcellence in developing andmarketing microbial controlsolutions for other industry seg-ments.

To shorten their steep learn-ing curve, Dow’s technicalexperts had extensive conversa-tions with fibre producers, tex-tile and apparel manufacturersand brand owners. The Dowteam aimed to learn as muchas possible about technical tex-tiles and other types of appareland the markets for them, tounderstand the specific draw-backs associated with the vari-ous traditional antimicrobial

products on the market and toassess the value the industrywould have for a next-genera-tion microbial control product.

The Dow technical teamcame away from these conver-sations convinced there was asignificant marketplace needfor a new microbial controlproduct, and that Dow couldbring that new, value addedproduct to that market.

Multi-phasedevelopment process

The multi-phase productdevelopment process thatensued, including extensiveevaluation and rigorous screen-ing, lasted more than threeyears. During this period, theDow technical team soughtanswers to many critical ques-tions. How did the new productcandidates interact with fibresand fabrics. Were the proto-types sensitising or irritating tothe skin. Were they compatiblewith moisture management sys-tems and chemicals and dyeingagents. What was their impacton the environment.

The development work ulti-mately led to the introduction ofSILVADUR Antimicrobial inSeptember 2012. The productwas then extensively evaluated, with results substantiating itshigh degree of efficacy againsta wide range of undesirablebacteria.

Testing also substantiatedSILVADUR’s durability. Testsusing commonly acceptedwashing techniques showedthat the product’s silver levelswere slightly reduced duringthe first five launderings, likelydue to polymer abrasion orfabric degradation rather thanthe silver migrating from thefabric surface. However, overthe next 45 launderings, silverlevels were relatively stable. In

virtually all of these tests, SIL-VADUR showed greater than99% antimicrobial activity.Further testing also proved con-clusively that the Dow technol-ogy did not notably alter thecolour of white fabrics.

Breakthrough ‘intelligent’control mechanism

Among its key features,SILVADUR’s patented ‘intelli-gent’ mechanism to controlodour-causing bacteria deliverssilver ions whenever odour-causing organisms land on thesurface of the treated fabric. The organisms are safely neu-tralised on contact with thesilver ions, which are notreleased again until additionalbacteria are present and theprocess is repeated.

Feedback from apparelmanufacturers currently usingSILVADUR Antimicrobial indi-cates that the applicationprocess is efficient and effec-tive. The solution is clear, easyto formulate and compatiblewith softeners, optical brighten-ers and most auxiliary agents, and does not react with otherchemical treatments. It can be

easily incorporated in the exist-ing operating systems of a mill, using either exhaustion orpadding processes, withoutrequiring excessive processingtemperatures, times or addedbinders. It can also be appliedby spraying and other methods.

Recognised fortechnological significance

The positive feedback, how-ever, has not been limited to theapparel manufacturing commu-nity. Last September, R&DMagazine recognised SIL-VADUR as one of the 100 mosttechnologically significant prod-ucts introduced over a 12-month period. It was judgedagainst innovative new prod-ucts in industries ranging fromtelecommunications to highenergy physics and biotechnol-ogy.

The bottom line is that man-ufacturers of technical textilesand other apparel now haveaccess to an efficient and effec-tive antimicrobial applicationprocess, and brand ownerswho use SILVADUR can be con-fident in their ability to providethe consistent, durable odour

control and freshness inapparel that customersdemand.

PTJ: Welcome toPakistan: Let’s startwith the Truetzschlerand its illustrious his-tory and its presentaspirations?

Trutzschler is a spin-ning preparation com-pany formed in 1888(128 years ago). Westarted with the blowroommachines and in 1960,we started producingcarding machines. 1990s wasthe decade for drawfamesand since 2010 we havebeen working with Toyota inthe field of combing. We cannow offer the full range ofspinning preparationmachines and we are themarket leaders in this fieldwith a 50% market shareworldwide.

Our strategy is to maintainour position as leaders in thespinning preparation, but wewill not join the spinningmachinery business as thereare several strong players inthis sector already.

We have a second busi-ness unit of Nonwovenmachinery. We took over twocompanies in this field in2005 and 2006 and now weare one of the two players tohave a complete line for bond-ing technology includingneedle punching, water entan-glement, chemical bondingand thermo bonding. It’s ouraim to improve our position, where we are not the market

leader. In the spunlace sector, where we are strong, but inthe needle punching wewould like to improve ourposition.

Our third business unit isCard Clothing business wherewe are also very successful. We are providing card cloth-ing for the spinning prepara-tion as well as for thenonwovens. So altogether, wehave these three businesseswith some real synergy as ourpeople can work together inCard clothing and spinning aswell as nonwovens applica-tion. Spinners ask us aboutinvestment in Nonwovens asdiversification. We can advisethem to make the right invest-ment that is very much appre-ciated by our customers.

PTJ: Please tell us about themarket of Pakistan?

Pakistan has been a veryinteresting market for us for anumber of years. In the lastfew years most of the coarsecount yarn from Pakistan hadbeen sold to China. Therefore,

when China stoppedimports from Pakistan, this had an adverseimpact on spinning indus-try of Pakistan. Today, spinners in Pakistan aretrying to assess how tokeep their business goingwithout selling to Chinaor India for that matter, thus investments in thecoarse count yarn aregoing down in Pakistan

and I can see that now spin-ners will move towards valueaddition in yarn and will movetowards fine count yarns.

I can already see thatsome of the leading mills inPakistan are trying to diversifyand the new investments aregeared towards the fine countyarns. And if they are consid-ering replacements they arenow going for higher produc-tivity, more automation andaim to reduce the cost per kg.Until recently, labor cost wasnot such a big issue inPakistan. However running thebusiness with higher profit isgetting more difficult with theincreasing cost of production.

Customers are looking intoexporting to non-traditionalmarkets. It seems to me thatPakistani spinners feel that theother governments, such asIndia are providing greatersupport to their exporters todeal with the crisis and spin-ner of Pakistan expect thesame from Pakistani govern-ment for a level playingfield.

Mr. Fabio Melisof CORINOMacchine during anexclusive interviewwith the Show DailyTeam said, “TheSUPERSLIT is a resultof more than 40years of experienceand continuous devel-opments in the designof rope opening/slit-ting lines. We aredefinitely moreexpensive, but we offer bestperformance for high valuecustomers, therefore, theSUPERSLIT is the finest ropeopening/slitting line in themarket. It is easily config-urable due to its unique mod-ular design, and equippedwith the best electrical, pneu-matic and mechanical com-ponents.”

During the discussion withPTJ editors and Mr. YasirIqbal of TEP (the representa-tive for Pakistan), Mr. Melissays, “ We have a new agentin Pakistan and we have highexpectations from this market, which is moving towards highvalue added textiles. We arepresent in Pakistan since lasttwenty years, and have manyreferences in Karachi, Lahoreand Faisalabad.“

While talking about thelatest machine, he said: “Theslitting and opening opera-tion is completely automaticand does not require re-threading the fabric, whenchanging from tubular toopen width process. For fab-rics treated with enzymes, which is very popular at the

moment, the CORINOAntipiling is the most effectivein the market. In the end, Iwould like to guarantee, theSUPERSLIT is totally designedand manufactured in Italy.”

Main Features

Detwister: The patenteddesign with ultra fast twistsensor guarantees a perfectoperation at the full speed of100 m/min with the lowheight of only 5m. TheSUPERSLIT is therefore thelowest slitting machine in itsclass and does not requireany up-down device

Slitting Basket: WithGOLDENEYE digital camerafor a high precision dropstitch detection. The patenteddesign with wheels and in-built blower perfectly guidesthe tubular fabric withoutoverstretching it. The result isthe cutting operation withlowest tension and elongationin its class.

Rope Squeezer: Gentlypulls out the fabric from thefabric trolley and delivers ittension free to the detwister,

while simultaneouslyremoving the excesswater from thefabric.

Turntable:Automatically rotatesthe fabric trolleys insynchronisation withthe detwister. Theheavy duty hydraulicdesign works evenwhen fully flooded.

OpeningModule: Opens the fabricwith a dual opening system, using scroll rolls plus fabricguider or an opening trian-gle. The SUPERSLIT thereforealways opens any kind offabric in the optimal way, always with lowest tensionand lowest fabric elongation.

Antipilling: The low ten-sion counterflow design withdriven rollers effectivelywashes out enzymatic dustfrom both sides of the openedfabric while treating even themost delicate structures verygently.

Foulard: The overdimensioned design with theMax squeezing force of18,000 Kg is the strongest inits class. Solid 290 mm diam-eter rollers with high-techrubber covering achieve thelowest possible residual mois-ture.

Plaiter: Can be chosenfrom three versions: reel typefor small wavy folds, levertype for long flat folds, andmulti-function lever type forboth long flat and small wavyfolds.
