Visitors to Ilfracombe this summer should look out for an extraordinary sight. Nowhereisland, a new island nation originating from the Arctic, is voyaging around the south west’s spectacular coastline, as part of an epic voyage of over 500 nautical miles during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This new island nation is planned to be in Ilfracombe between the 1st and 4th September* and will be anchored in the historic harbour during the Sea Ilfracombe Festival.As a new nation, Nowhereisland will be accompanied by a mobile Embassy packed full of activities, fascinating resources and informative artefacts that will tell the story of Nowhereisland’s origins and its inspiring journey. There’ll be something for all ages and interests and you’ll even be able to register as a 1RZKHUHLVODQG�FLWL]HQ��<RX¶OO�¿�QG�LW�SDUNHG�XS�DW�WKH�IRRW�RI�/DQWHUQ�Hill, on top of which is Ilfracombe’s oldest lighthouse building, St. Nicholas’ Chapel, offering wonderful views of Nowhereisland.The story of Nowhereisland began in 2004, when artist Alex Hartley searched for and discovered an island which had been revealed by

the melting ice of a retreating glacier in the High Arctic.
