“Part of what we admire about a painting or a piece of music is the order which the artist has imposed upon what would otherwise have appeared disconnected or chaotic.”

- Anthony Storr

The 2013 Illinois Art League Membership Show was so much more than an opportunity to reach for that brass ring, it’s the coming together for sharing and appreciating. With that thought in mind, I do applaud and congratulate you who placed in your category and class. Your pieces are representative of the excellent and varied works our league produces. Well done! Our judges, Ken Tiessen and David Vernon, spent a great deal of time evaluating this body of works, a most difficult task, considering the high standard of quality. I found their critique at Friday night’s reception to be very informative and helpful. I hope those of you who attended have new found insights and interpretations gleaned from our judge’s critiques and from each other. Be sure and visit our web site for all the pictures of our annual show.

The mission of this newsletter is to celebrate a very beautiful Illinois Art League Mem-bership Show. The Peoria Heights Library IAL exhibit is showcasing the First place win-ners during the month of June. Check the library website for days and times available. This exhibit is an ongoing function of Illinois Art League featuring our member’s art through out the year. What a great way to promote your work. Rose Sullivan, [email protected], 309-692-7766 is the contact person. As an added note to some of our newer members, PH Library is also the location of our monthly IAL Board meetings, which all are invited, held the first Monday from 5:30 to 7:30pm. The updated cal-endar of IAL events and activities for the rest of 2013 will be in the June newsletter. Although the next gathering needs to be noted on your calendar now; the first annual Membership Picnic, Monday July 15th at the Fon du Lac Park West Pavilion, East Peo-ria. I like this older part of the park because it’s historic, more private, and picturesque. Yes, plein air painting is on the menu.

As we are concluding one major event and gearing up for all the things to come, I just want to say how much I appreciate all your help in making this a very successful Mem-bership Show, a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you. Like frosting on the cake, I count it all joy for the time that I had getting to know you and thank you for sharing your stories, goals and aspirations.

Until next time,Bev Pullen
