Recent months have seen regulatory debate cast many questions over how Mongolia will continue to drive coal sector growth. Where will the investment come from, and what role do foreign companies stand to play as progress advances? Yet in spite of current uncertainty it remains clear that Mongolia stands to play a key role in global coal dynamics, with the wealth of opportunity locked in its coal reserves continuing to attract interest from across the world. Join us as we return to this evolving market to assess how you can secure your position as a key player in driving future growth.

PROSPECTS FOR RAISING FINANCING

The Foreign Investment Law and Minerals Law draft have changed the face of Mongolia’s investment climate. Yet whilst the current environment remains challenging, the combination of the approaching May elections and a growing understanding of the scale of Mongolia’s coal reserves mean global interest in Mongolian opportunities remains high. Join us in the wake of the elections to assess new options for accessing capital and investing in Mongolia.

DEVELOPING COAL INFRASTRUCTURE NETWORKS

The logistics of transporting Mongolia’s coal across the country and out into the export market remain crucial to the future of this emerging sector. Assess how links with Chinese and Russian infrastructure systems are advancing, and as production progresses in northern Mongolia, understand how plans are being developed to transport this coal into the market place.

ESTABLISHING MONGOLIA’S COMPETITIVE POSITION

As production advances, assess how Mongolia is both influencing and being shaped by regional dynamics. Hear from key buyers to understand how China’s relationship with Mongolia’s coal sector is evolving, and discover how groundbreaking innovations are adding value to Mongolia’s coal assets and increasing Mongolia’s competitive position in the export markets.

SHARYN GOL COAL MINE AND DARKHAN

POWER PLANT

VISIT ERDENES TT’S TAVAN TOLGOI MINE

Tuesday 18 June 2013 Friday 21 June 2013

Optional pre-conference Field Trip Optional post-conference Field Trip

Sharyn Gol JSC has a coal mining operation located in Northern Mongolia. It is currently a single asset company, owning 100% of the established Sharyn Gol Coal Mine ("Sharyn Gol"). Originally a state run enterprise developed to supply local utilities, the company was privatized and listed on the Mongolian Stock Exchange in 2003.

The company has been mining coal at Sharyn Gol for over 45 years, supplying both domestic and export customers predominantly for power generation, but also for specialized uses, such as semi-coking (smokeless fuel) end users. The release of a new JORC Resource estimate over the property in February 2011 indicated the presence of a significant thermal coal deposit (374 Mt), with the possibility of further additional exploration upside from several identified areas.

Production expansion program is underway, aimed at increasing output from 0.5 Mtpa to 1.0 Mtpa. Stage two will see production increase further to 2.5 Mtpa, lengthening the expected mine life by decades. The stage one and two upgrades can be achieved with minimal capital expenditure due to the existing infrastructure.

Erdenes TT's Tavan Tolgoi coal deposit covers 80,000 hectares area and it is located in the Ulaan Nuur area in Omnogobi Province with approved reserves of 1.5bt of coking and energy coal with possible reserves of 6.5bt. Based on studies, the existing project scope for a mine production is between 15 mmtpa and 30 Mtpa with a necessary infrastructure and coal-fired power plant with power exporting potential.
