What is Kabaddi? Kabaddi is a sport derived from South Asia that is quickly growing in popularity in the UK. Two teams occupy opposite halves of a pitch and take turns sending a "raider" into the other half, in order to win points by tapping members of the opposing team; then the raider tries to return to his own half, holding his breath and chanting the word "Kabaddi" during the whole raid. If the opposing team catches the raider then they get a point. The team with the most points at the end wins.

I am writing to you on behalf of Imperial College Kabaddi Club regarding sponsorship during the academic year 2015/6. IC Kabaddi Club is in its third year at Imperial College London. From its humble origins in Asia, Kabaddi has now acquired a global status with its own World Cup and forms one of the main sports of the Asian Games (the second largest sporting event in the world after the Olympics). Furthermore, the recent development of the inaugural Pro Kabaddi League in India, which has been compared to the Indian Premier League (cricket), boasts 8 franchises, some of which are owned by bollywood actors. One of our very own players, Michael Dubery, was purchased as a professional Kabaddi player and played for the Bangalore franchise – The Bengaluru Bulls. Furthermore two players have also been selected for the England National Men’s Kabaddi team, travelling to Italy to participate in a friendly match against the Italian national team. We are committed to bringing recognition to one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, following the showing of England Women’s Kabaddi team in the recent world cup. We have regular matches in the National University Kabaddi League (NUKL), which involves playing in different universities in the UK such as Birmingham, Leicester, Warwick, Manchester, LSE and Aston. We also participate in a regional and national sports competition in London and Wolverhampton respectively. The latter attended by approximately 1,500 people last year. Following the success of last years’ team, where we finished as London Regional and National Kabaddi champions 2014-5. We aim to improve our performance in the NUKL and hold regular training sessions with the England national team. However, in order for this to become a reality we need financial support from companies such as yourself. Pro Kabaddi League The Pro Kabaddi League was founded to increase the global profile of Kabaddi. The scheme has been compared to the Indian Premier League (cricket) and boasts many business and Bollywood stars funding the teams. It is to be broadcast on STAR Sports from 18th July – 23th August and involves 8 teams from 8 areas of India. One of our players has been selected and bought by the Bangalore franchise, the Bengaluru Bulls. We hope to get more players from the club playing professionally in the future.
