Thanks also to all parents who made time in their busy days to attend. Shrek I think the majority of our school families were able to attend one of the exceptional “Shrek” performances provided by our year five and six students last week. Every student was involved, enjoyed the experience and being part of such a wonderful opportunity. Mrs Horrocks certainly uncovered some exceptional talent, and encouraged and empowered all students to have the confidence to be part of a very professional production. Shrek was a result of a huge effort from the staff, and a considerable number of parent helpers. There would have been in excess of 25 helpers on each night. In order to thank everyone, I am sharing the acknowledgements from the programme. Dear Parents, Students and Community Members, As part of our school commitment to sharing student progress we offered Learning Journeys on Monday. Mums’ Footy Game – Dragon Slayers Victorious I have been involved in many football associations and teams over the years, but I have never seen anything like the Mums’ Footy game on Friday. What a wonderful community event, so well organised by so many volunteers and attended by around 3,500 people. Congratulations to the Dragon Slayers on another victory, this time a hard fought narrow win. It is impossible thank everyone but I would like to single out a few. Thanks to:

Dave Larsen for his huge amount of work over several months as the coordinator of the event. His contributions included (but were not limited to) liaising with the various government and shire authorities to gain the necessary permissions, coordinating all the services, food and beverage, the LED screen, lighting, music, live commentary, officials, sponsors and liaising with the Margaret River Team. A mammoth effort supported by a very able and willing committee.

To the mums from both Dunsborough schools for all their training over at least ten weeks. The cooperation and teamwork between our school and Dunsborough Primary was another positive outcome of the event, building a strong sense of community across both schools.

To the master coach, Red Sweeny, supported by his able assistant coach, Adrian Torrese and team manager, Caitlin Delane.

Eloise Jennings for all her work with organising sponsorship, and coordination of many aspects of the event.

Finally to our many generous sponsors detailed in the community section of this newsletter. The exception efforts of everyone resulted in a total of $14,000 being presented by Dave Larsen to our P&F rep, Alicia Higgins today. These funds will be used to help fund the nature playground that we hope to complete next term. The total profit for the event was $42,000 with the three other schools also receiving $14,000. An outstanding result.

Progress on Provision of our New Classroom for 2017 Works have commenced on the Ausco transportable which will be delivered in November, allowing sufficient time for all the services to be connected and the verandahs to be attached ready for hand over early in December. The site works for the building and the adjoining 26 bay car park to the west of the hall will commence tomorrow with the works to be completed over the school holidays. I would like to thank all the School Board members for their support in all the planning and completion of applications for funding. I particularly would like to thank our two local builders on the School Board, Anton Smith and Mike Valmadre, for sharing their considerable expertise in all stages of the planning. Uniform Reminder – Term Four With the cooler weather lingering it might be necessary for some students to take advantage of the first two weeks transition to summer uniform up until Friday 21st October. All students will need to be in correct summer uniform from Monday 24th October.

Uniform Standards Joggers I understand that the provision of joggers can be a considerable expense. We do have a few joggers of non-compliant colours being worn to school. Given the expense, I will allow some time for people to ensure compliance. As of the start of term four, please ensure all joggers worn at school comply with the uniform policy as below: - White or light grey sports joggers. The joggers must be at least 75% white/light grey and please

avoid particularly colourful markings. Brightly coloured laces will need to be replaced with white laces.

- White sport socks (above the ankle). Hairstyles I am also sharing the hairstyle requirements. If a haircut is necessary, or if long hair needs to be tied up, could this please be attended to over the next two weeks. HAIRSTYLES In keeping with uniform standards, hairstyles should be conservative and neat. Fashion styles involving colour, very short cuts, undercuts, etc, are not acceptable. Hairstyles need to conform to the following standards: Hair is to be clean, off the face and appropriately groomed and combed. Hair (for boys) is to be cut to collar length. For hygiene reasons, hair below collar length must be tied up with a school scrunchy or a black

elastic band. No coloured hair accessories please.

Jewellery The wearing of jewellery and other fashion enhancements is not permitted at Our Lady of the Cape for safety reasons. A watch and/or necklace with a Christian symbol may be worn. Only matching sleeper earrings or studs to be worn. One earring or stud of a matching pair to be

worn in each ear. An earring in one ear only is not to be worn. No other body piercing is permitted.

No nail polish or makeup is allowed. Socks Please note that the socks to be worn with both shoes and joggers are available from the uniform shop at a very reasonable price. Socks need to be above the ankle.

Thanks for the Term I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for a busy but hugely productive term and wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday. The term finishes today, with tomorrow being a Professional Development day for staff. The term recommences for staff with a PD Day on Monday 10th October with students commencing on Tuesday 11th October. The students will return in faction sports uniform ready for the Sports Carnival. Annual Shoebox Appeal My thanks to all our generous families for their donations towards the shoeboxes. This year we were able to provide 75 boxes which will be sent overseas as Christmas presents for significantly poor children who have never had a present before. We have had donations from students from pre primary to year six, and we are very pleased to see this active reflection of our value of Compassion. A huge vote of thanks to Mrs Murphy for all her work, over many years, with the coordination and promotion of the shoebox appeal. Faction Sports Carnival My apologies to everyone for the inconvenience created by having to cancel the sports carnival due to the weather. We have rescheduled the carnival to Tuesday 11th October. The interschool carnival will be on Thursday 20th October.
