Problem: Cablevisions On Demandnavigation system is complicated,verbose and suffers from poordefaultsSolution: make navigation system easier tohandle with familiar icons, limit number ofsteps to reach desired result and improveuser experience by making defaults morerelevant. 3. METHODSince Cablevisions nav system is controlled by its remote Ihave included a photo of the remote on each slide.I indicate which buttons are pressed by a yellow highlightover each button depressed. For each step I count thenumber of keystokes (or the number of times the user has topress a button) to get to the next step. Underneath thekeystroke count the total of all keystrokes is counted.The number of steps is indicated on the lower left with themenu level on the lower right. 4. Why do a usability study onCablevision The issues covered in the following slides was discovered while stumbling thru Cablevisions nav system for a episodeof Mad Men that I missed over the Memorial Day holiday. This is not a comprehensive study on Cablevisions nav menu. It is an attempt to offer some usability best practices that can improve the overall functionality of the nav sys. There was no task analysis done to determine user preferences and system metrics or constraints. In a more comprehensive study a 5.
