December 9 – Annual Awards Dinner PotluckBy now, everyone should have contacted Oz Pfenninger (email [email protected]) and notified him what dishes you will be bringing and how many people you’re dragging bringing along, Here’s hoping everyone will have a wonderful time and a big Congrats goes to all those folks who will be receiving awards or promotions to the next competition level.

There were some fantastic images in competitions this year, so you all deserve a pat on the back.

This Month's Competition is...Not HappeningFor the past few years we have not done a competition in December. Everyone gets busy with the holi-days, family commitments, decorating the house, shoveling snow, etc.

Frame #37A collection of extra tidbits I've discovered during the past few weeks.

— When is the last time you checked or updated your camera Firmware? Manufacturers come out with updates that fix problems and add features for DSLRs and Point & Shoots. Sigma even has lenses that can be updated with Firmware. Visit the Nikon site, Canon Consumer or Pro site, Sony site, Fuji site, Pentax site, Olympus site, and Sigma site for info and instructions.

— A common way for photographers to start a new year is with a with a Photo-A-Day or 52 Week project. Why? The question is answered at the LightStalking website. And here is a giant list of ideas, or just use them all for a 365 project. There are Facebook groups, various websites, or Instagram challenges you can find with a few Google searches. Charge your creativity and gain experience shooting a wide variety of subjects.

— Got a hankering for a photo trip for 2017? Check out the Mentor Series from PopPhoto. Trips to Norway, Italy, France, and a variety of US destinations are slated for the new year. Hit the Mentor Series info page and start dreaming!

— Two different photographers – two different views- one just a year after getting a DSLR and the other after 15 years. An interesting read on both. And I think this statement goes for any photographer:“When I don’t have my camera with me, I’m thinking about the pictures I could be taking.”

— Get a sweet deal on 3 PDF Ebooks from Jim Zuckerman – Composition, Natural Light and Flash. Half price for now (Only $15!!), but it won’t last long.

The whole point of taking pictures is so that you don’t have to explain things with words.
