Presidents Report
Last Monday Kerrie, Rob Fenton and myself met with thePresident of the Concourse Traders Association (CTA), Car-mine Soriano to review the Festival, discuss any feedbackand generally consider all things good and bad and how toimprove the festival in the future.
While Kerrie will document a full report on the meeting, the
outcomes from a RCOB point of view were very positive. TheCTA were very impressed with Kerries organisational skillsand how well she kept all parties informed. They also agreedthat RCOB should be part of future festivals and are lookingat changing the day to a Sunday, getting permits and grantsapproved earlier and in fact, starting the whole planning pro-cess earlier. The general consensus is that a Sunday wouldallow the festival to run longer, give the ride operators moretime, sell more tickets and still be able to dismantle their ridesin daylight (an OH&S requirement). It would also be less dis-ruptive to traders in the Concourse and potentially increasesales for those traders that open on a Sunday.
The CTA is also very keen to develop their brand and sug-gested that due to the brainpower at RCOB we may be ableto assist by either finding a marketer or entrepreneur and/orarrange a meeting to which all CTA members were invited. The meeting would be to discuss ways of improving the pro-file/brand of the CTA and suggest ways of improving their in-dividual businesses. This would improve our relationship withthe traders and potentially assist with our membership drive.
By moving the event to a Sunday and increasing the hours itwould also make it more attractive to other business (foodvans etc with products not sold by traders) and potentiallygenerate more income opportunities and a bigger surplus. This year the festival generated a surplus of $5,000 of which,$2,000 has been donated to RCOB.
Thank you to all the members who have contributed to themembership discussion. We will need to put a team togetherin the New Year to firm up and implement some of the ideas.
The District 9810 Youth Service Cluster will be held on Tues-day 11thFebruary 2014 at The Buckingham and hosted byRotary Club of Bentleigh Moorabbin Central. The target audi-ence school leaders not involved with Rotary programs, newprincipals or those only occasionally involved.
The purpose will be to spread the good news about the won-derful Youth Service programs run inDistrict 9810 and the way they contribute to the developmentof young people, their school and the broader community.

The response to this event in 2013 and the quality of thespeakers was excellent and I hope we can put togetherat the very least, a table of 10 which hopefully will includea couple of principals from our local schools.
Again, thank you all for making the Christmas party suchan enjoyable event, particularly Dance Master Mike and
his flirtatious and multi-talented dance partner, Roy, whotogether, inspired many others to join them on the dancefloor.
Have a great Christmas, enjoy the time with your familiesand look forward to an exciting 2014.
Robert
