    Nixon Nets 40 Points In Yale Cup **A 40-point performance by

    Roosevelt Nixon spurred Emer-son to a 71-43 victory over Riverside and East came up with a second-half rally to beat Hutch-Tech, 73-53, yesterday to remain the only unbeaten teams in the Yale Cup basketball ser-ies.

    Nixon, an All-High selection last year, potted 19 field goals and two of six free throws. He scored 16 points in the second quarter as the Eagles pulled away to a 41-20 lead at inter-mission.

    High scoring: totals are not new to Nixon. He bagged 53 against Tech in a game last year. Yesterday's output gave him 115 points for the season and a 23-point average, both tops in the series.

    The 5-foot-9 speedster hit mostly on jump shots.

    Tech trailed East only once, 29-28, at halftime, but Alvin Hargro and Lum Smith keyed the Orientals' second-half out-burst. Hargro scored 10 in the third quarter as East went up by 13, 52-39, and Smith had eight in the final period. Smith ended with 22 points and Hargro 19. Jim Fliss had 19 for the Engineers.

    East and Emerson now have 5-0 records.
