Vision Statement

Incarnation Parish is a Roman Catholic community centered around the Lord Jesus, a living sign of hope to all that the Word made flesh dwells among us. His presence and love is encountered in all areas of our life together, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Sacred Scripture and in the Sacraments. We seek to make the Lord's presence and love known through service and edu-cation, through evangelization and through con-tinual conversion and renewal in Him. We entrust our life together and our sharing in the mission of Christ to the protection and intercession of Mary, Mother of the Lord and our Mother.

FUEL COLLECTION. The annual “Fuel Collection” is taking place. There is an additional envelope in the church packet that requests your generous contribution to defray the costs of the parish buildings. Needless to say, like your own homes, everyone is hit hard during the win-ter months. We ask every parishioner to be as generous as possible so that our parish buildings may remain warm and comfortable for everybody. Extra white “Fuel Col-lection” envelopes are in the church today for those who did not receive it in the mail. Thanks.

Feast of Faith Series: This Is The Mass: The

Source and Summit of Who We Are!~ We invite everyone who would like to explore our Catholic Faith more deeply to come and reflect on Holy Mass throughout this coming year. The next of the sessions— “The Lit-urgy of the Eucharist - Be Please to Look Upon these Offerings” takes place this Tues-day at 7:30PM. Save the date for final ses-sion on May 12 - all Tuesdays at 7:30.

Bring a Friend to Church!

From the Pastor’s Pen

With 2020 being a Presidential Election I thought this might be interesting. Thanks to the National Archives! George Washington's Birthday is celebrated as a federal holiday on the third Monday in February. It is one of eleven permanent holidays established by Congress. You might be surprised that Federal holidays apply only to the federal government and the District of Columbia. Congress has never declared a national holiday binding in all states and each state decides its own legal holidays. Washington was born in Virginia on Feb 11, 1731, according to the then-used Julian calendar. But in 1752 Britain and all its colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar which moved Washington's birthday to Feb 22, 1732. Americans celebrated Washington's Birthday long before Congress declared it a federal holiday. The centennial of his birth prompted festivities nationally and Congress established a Joint Committee to arrange for the occasion. At the recommendation of the Committee, Congress adjourned on February 22, 1832 out of respect for Washington's memory and in commemoration of his birth. Prompted by a memorial from the mayor and other citizens of Philadelphia, the House and Senate commemorated the 130th Anniversary of Washington's birth by reading aloud his Farewell Address. In a special joint session held in the House Chamber, the House and Senate, along with several cabinet officials, Justices of the Supreme Court and high-ranking officers of the Army and Navy, gathered to listen to the Secretary of State read the address aloud. Eventually, the reading of George Washington's Farewell Address became an annual event for the Senate, a tradition that is still observed to this day. Washington's Birthday, however, did not become a legal holiday until Jan 31, 1879 when Congress added Feb 22 to the list of holidays to be observed by federal employees in the District of Columbia. Washington's Birthday was celebrated on Feb 22 until well into the 20th Century. In 1968 Congress passed the Monday Holiday Law to "provide uniform annual observances of certain legal public holidays on Mondays. Contrary to popular belief, and taking nothing away from Mr. Lincoln, neither Congress nor the President has ever stipulated that the name of the holiday observed as Washington's Birthday be changed to "President's Day." God Bless!

Ash Wednesday begins Lent on Feb-ruary 26. Mass will be celebrated at 7AM, 8:30AM, 10:30AM and 7:30PM. There will also be Scripture Services at 12noon and 3:30PM. Ash-es will be distributed after the homily of each service. The opportunity for confession will take place after each of the four Masses.

SACRAMENTS. The Next Prepara-tion Session for the families (parents and students) receiv-

ing Penance & Holy Commun-ion as well as Confirmation will take place this Saturday, March 7 at 4:15AM in the church. Families are reminded to attend the 5PM Mass together.

St. Joseph’s Day: March 19. Honor the Husband of Mary, the Guardi-an of the Redeemer and Patron of the Universal Church with 8:30AM morning Mass followed by a Community Celebra-tion of St. Joseph’s Table in the lower church. Start preparing your favorite dishes now.

Parish Gala Dance—Saturday, March 21. As we prepare to celebrate our parish feast on March 25th, there will be a preparation meeting on Tuesday, Feb 25 at 7:30PM in the Rectory Basement Meeting Room for those who would like to work on the Gala

celebration. Help us celebrate ourselves, our community, our parish where we find the presence of Jesus made flesh among us.

New Altar Servers are now being recruited for the parish. Registration forms are available at the School, Religious Education or Parish Offices. Girls and boys in grades 4 through 7 are invited to this special ministry at the Altar of the Lord. Requirements: Children must be baptized Catholics who have received Penance and Holy Commun-ion, have their parent’s/guardian’s permission and attend the required practices. For more information please con-tact Father Ray. The New Servers will be installed Satur-day, May 2 at the 5PM Mass.

Discontinuation of Holy Communion under both Forms. Out of an over abundance of caution, the Bishop has asked that the Precious Blood not be offered at Com-munion time during this unusually virulent flu season. After the season passes we will resume distribution of Ho-ly Communion as normal here at the parish.

LIVING LIGHTS. Securing an Annual Living Light Vo-tive Candle to Honor a Loved One, Remember a Special Intention, or Mark a Milestone is a contin-ual and wonderful way to celebrate sentiments and offer intercessions of remembrance, hope and grat-itude. Two wall mounted electric candle stands now hang in our church on either side of the newly

restored and expanded Saints’ Shrine. These unique and inviting candles are made of real wax with electrified illu-mination to insure your Living Light burns brightly throughout the year. A plaque displaying the name of your loved one, your intention, or your milestone will be mounted before your Living Light Votive Candle. Plaques will remain for the year you have secured your Living Light and may be renewed or rededicated for additional 12 month periods. In addition to its rightful place before your Living Light in the Saints’ Shrine, your Loved One, Special Intention, or Milestone will also be included in the Living Light Section of the Parish Website. See the blue brochure by the church doors or contact the rectory for more info: 718-465-8534.

The Shepherd Speaks

With regard to the commandment ‘you shall not kill’, he states that it is violated not only by murder in effect, but also by those behaviours that offend the dignity of the human person, including insulting words (cf. v. 22). Of course, these insulting words do not have the same gravity and culpability as killing, but they are set along the same line, because they are the pretext to it and they reveal the same malevolence. Jesus invites us not to estab-

lish a ranking of offences, but to consider all of them damaging, inasmuch as they are driven by the intent to do harm to one’s neighbour. - Angelus Message St. Peter’s Square 12.II.17

We also can give end of the year statements of your contributions to the church through regular use of the envelopes. We can also help you with letters of recommendation for employment, schools, etc. Your registration will also help us with our parish cen-sus in knowing the number of Catholics in the Hol-lis/Queens Village area. Thank you and welcome.
