• Extended School Year provides an extension of services beyond the normal school

year

• Many countries across the world already subscribe to year-round schooling to

promote retention and increased achievement

• Summer camps provide opportunities for continued learning and maintenance of

skills in a fun and positive environment

• Summer camps range from local community day camps to month or even summer-

long “sleep away” camps

• Home summer learning allows parents to spend quality time with their children in a positive environment

• Time and ability to focus on the child (often in a 1:1 environment) and individual learning


“Students who attend summer programs have better outcomes than

similar peers who do not attend these programs rigorous studies of

voluntary summer programs, mandatory summer programs, and

programs that encourage students to read at home in the summer

have all found positive effects on student achievement.

The combined evidence from these studies suggests that all of these

types of summer learning programs can mitigate summer learning

losses and even lead to achievement gains. Moreover, longitudinal

studies conclude that the effects of summer learning programs

endure for at least two years after the student has engaged in the

summer program.”
