Frankly Speaking'Ignorance of Law is no excuse '.

It is a very old dictum. Basic knowledge of law is always an asset for an average Indian.

We have shared in April, 2017 Issue of IROWA News Letter the efforts made by our Patron Shri M. A. Pathan for retirees through dialogue at a very senior level in the Ministry and with IOC Management. However, many post 31.12.2006 retirees strongly believe that IROWA has not done anything for their cause.

Here basic knowledge of law comes into play. An association formed with a single point agenda of post 31.12.2006 retirees has gone to the court and it is learnt that their petition has been admitted by the Hon'ble High Court, making the issue subjudice.

It is common knowledge that neither IROWA can now pursue the matter nor IOC Management can respond to a matter which is subjudice.

In their own wisdom a section of post 31.12.2006 retirees has closed the door for discussion. They are also trying to tarnish the image of IROWA with a strong membership base of 6000 members which has played pivotal role in retiree benefits and facilities extended by IOC over the last several decades of which post 2006 retirees are also beneficiaries.

In spite of the legal constraints Mr V C Agrawal, President IROWA has written to the Chairman IOC as late as August 21, 2017 re-emphasizing that the issues pertaining to post 2006 retirees i.e. fixation of pay - basic + DA as on 1.1.2007 be taken up suitably along with the other pending issues.

Please make IROWA stronger by joining the association rather than getting carried away by false propaganda by those who stepped away from the time tested approach of IROWA – of perusing for the welfare measures for retirees with perseverance. Bringing divide between retirees of pre and post 2006 era will be counter-productive.

It is not denying the fact that our pending issues with IOC Management pertaining to all the retirees in respect of revision of medical benefits, ex-gratia and formation of the corpus under 1.5 PBT scheme have taken time longer than desirable. Recommendations in respect of 3rd Pay-commission (which are yet to be approved) by MOP&NG have further complicated the matters.

God bless us.Between us.

Mother at old age home -A true Story

Last night an incident touched many aspects of my life.

Around 7 o'clock in the evening I got a ring on my mobile. When I took the call I heard someone weeping.

I said - calm down Bhabhi ji.

Bhabhi ji asked impatiently - Where are you??? And how long will it take you to come?

I said: - "Tell me what has happened and where is Bhai Sahab? Where is Mataji?" "What happened after all ...?"

But she kept on repeating "You come".

I said that I am straight away heading for your house and that it will take me at least one hour.

As I reached their house panic was all around. Bhai Sahab who is a judge was sitting in front.

My sister-in-law was crying, her 12 year old son was upset, 9-year-old daughter was also unable to say anything.

I asked Bhai Sahab "What is the matter" but got no reply.

Then my sister-in-law said, see these divorce papers he has brought from the court, he is ready to divorce me.

I asked - How can this be??? There is such a nice family. There are 2 children. Everything is settled. I even thought that they were perhaps joking for a little fun. But seeing the faces of children confirmed it was a very serious situation.

I asked the children, where was their grandmother?

The children said that father had shifted her to Noida's old age home 3 days ago.

I told the servant to bring tea for me and Bhai Sahab.

When tea arrived he refused to take and started crying like an innocent child. He told that he had not eaten anything for 3 days. I have left my 61-year-old mother in the care of unknown people.

Since last year, I got so much trouble in my household. My wife has very categorically said that she cannot take care of my mother. She and my children even do not talk to her.

After coming from court every day I found my mother crying bitterly. Even the servants were not attending to her.

My mother expressed her desire for being shifted to Old Age Home.

I tried to talk to everyone in the family but none responded.

When I was 2 years old, Dad died and my mother worked in the homes of others to educate me. Only because of her determination and hard work I am a judge today. People tell me that my mother never left me alone while working in the homes of others.

My mother suffered so much to see that I become someone in life. During her old age I did not look after her and left her in Old Age Home. I have been living with the worst guilt for the last 3 days.

I still remember when I was about to apply for the 10th exam my mother used to sit with me overnight.

Once I was very furious when I came from school. Her body was warm, I said, Maa, you have high fever, laughing, she said I was just cooking, so it is so hot.

She had to borrow money from people to meet expenses of my studies from University to LLB. She won't allow me to teach junior students to supplement her earnings to ensure that I devote maximum time for my own studies.

With what I have done for such a mother it should not be difficult to guess what my wife and children should expect from me.

I got my flesh and blood from my mother and I am a part of her. In her old age I have left her in the care of people who are totally ignorant about her likes and dislikes, habits, ailments and feelings. When I cannot do anything for her what can I do for anyone else?

If freedom is so sweet and my mother is a big burden then I want to give full freedom to my wife..

When I grew up without my father, my children would also grow-up. That's why I want to divorce.

All my properties will be handed over to these people and I will be in the Old Age Home. At least I can live with my mother.

When after doing so much for me my mother is forced to live in the "ashram", then one day I will also have to go there. While staying with my mother I will get accustomed to this life and will not have to face what she is facing today.

He was crying even more than speaking.

Talking at 12:30 in the night I saw my sister-in-law's face. Her expression had atonement and guilt.

I told the driver, now we will go to Noida.

BHAI Sahab, my sister-in-law and children, we all reached Noida.

Bhai Sahab fell into the feet of the gatekeeper and requested him for opening the gate at that odd hour. He told him that he was there to take his mother back to his house.

The watchman enquired what do you do?

Bhai Saheb said, I am a judge.

That gatekeeper said, when all the evidence is in front, then you cannot do justice with your mother,

Saheb can you do justice with others?

After that went inside.

A female warden came out and said in a sarcastic tone "At 2 o'clock in the night you may take her away and kill her. What answer will I give to my God?

I told the seister you believe me. These people are living in great repentance.

Finally somehow she took us to mother's room. I am not in the position to tell the scene in the room.

With just a photo by her side that had full family as if she had baby next to her.

Page 5: INDIAN OIL RETIRED OFFICERS WELFARE ASSOCIATION …irowaapex.com/data/documents/Irowa News - OCT 2017.pdfnewsletter of indian oil retired officers welfare association irowa news issue

When I told her that we have come to take you home, the whole family began to cry and held each other tight.

All the people in the surrounding rooms woke up. Their eyes too were moist.

After some time the preparations were over. People from all over the Ashram came outside. Somehow we could leave the people of the Ashram.

Everyone was hoping against hope that someday their family will also come and take them home.

Children and my sister-in-law, all along the way were quiet. Bhai Sahib and Mataji were emotionally charged. All of us reached home at around 3:45.

Mother is only Mother. Do not kill her before she dies.

Mother is our strength, do not let her be helpless, if she becomes weak then the "spine" of our culture will be weakened, It is not hidden from anyone how will the society be with weak spine.

If you know a family having such a problem, then you must definitely explain the matter effectively, do anything but do not allow our mother to be helpless / homeless. If tears fall from mother's eyes then the debt will remain for many years. True peace is only under the shadow of mother and even when you may have all the worldly luxuries, you will not have peaceful blessed life

Read this touching true story and share with your children so that neither you nor they repent anytime during their life.

Lata Bhagwan Kare, a 66 year old woman, is a resident of a small village in Buldhana district in Maharashtra.

She lives with her three daughters and husband. She and her husband worked very hard throughout their lives and got their daughters married. All their life's savings were spent on the marriages.

After daughters' marriage, Lata tai and her husband started working as daily wage workers in the nearby farms, they used to make just enough to survive.

One day her husband felt uneasy and was diagnosed with some serious infection.

With no money in hand, Latatai couldn't imagine what to do. She took him to the nearby government hospital. Doctors advised her to take him to the hospital in Baramati as tests had to be conducted.

Latatai was in tears, she cursed her own misery. She couldn't see her husband dying in her arms. She felt helpless and sorrowful.

As a last resort, she begged her neighbours, relatives and every possible person she could, collected a little money and left for Baramati for further tests of her husband.

Doctors moved her husband to the check-up zone. She discreetly sat outside the room with teary eyes, praying God to save the only relative in her life.

Fate had some other story written for them. Doctors advised further costly tests and medications, which were going to cost a fortune. Latatai's world collapsed as she had nowhere to go with no money for her husband's treatment. Her world was shattered, her heart ached, overwhelmed by emotions, she cried with helplessness.

The wife and husband came out of the hospital heavy-hearted. They stopped by samosawala and had two samosas.

The samosas were served on a piece of newspaper. Lata tai's eyes stopped on the bold Marathi headline in the newspaper; her eyes lit, heart skipped.

The headline was about the 'Baramati Marathon and it's prize money'.

Next day, Baramati Marathon was about to commence. Everyone gathered in their sports shoes, cozy shorts and track suits, sweat absorbing tees.

And here she came, the 66 year old Lata Bhagwan Kare, wearing torn saree (lugda), bare footed, tears in her eyes. She argued with the organizers, as they weren't ready to let her participate in the marathon.

She pleaded, she begged, she convinced them to permit her to participate.

Marathon started, she hitched her saree just above her ankles, she ran like a wizard, like a 16 year old teen.

She didn't think of anything else, she could just see nothing but her husband's agony and the prize money.

She didn't care about the hard hitting road and pebbles hurting her feet. Her feet bled, but she ran and ran.

Crowd cheered her, streets of Baramati clapped for her. People were flabbergasted. They saluted her and applauded her.

Finally she won the Marathon and got the prize money. It meant a lot to her as she could now save her husband.

She collected the prize amount and made sure her husband received proper medication.

This is love, this is devotion. She didn't blink in the most trying circumstances, she never thought about how she was going to win the marathon, or how was she going to run barefooted. Her only motive was to save her husband.

Salutes to Lata Bhagwan Kare, for her courage and fortitude. In the world full of excuses, she just proved to be an extreme exception.

Google her name to watch her clips on YouTube on how she won the marathon.

Do You Know That ?Our belly button (NABHI) is an amazing gift given to us by our creator. A 62 year old man had poor vision in his left eye. He could hardly see especially at night and was told by eye specialists that his eyes were in a good condition but the only problem was that the veins supplying blood to his eyes were dried up and he would never be able to see again.

According to Science, the first part created after conception takes place is the belly button. After it's created, it joins to the mother's placenta through the umbilical chord.

Our belly button is surely an amazing thing! According to science, after a person has passed away, the belly button is still warm for 3 hours the reason being that when a woman conceives a child, her belly button supplies nourishment to the child through the child's belly button. And a fully grown child is formed in 270 days = 9 months.

This is the reason all our veins are connected to our belly button which makes it the focal point of our body. Belly button is life itself!

The “PECHOTI” is situated behind the belly button which has 72,000 plus veins over it. The total amount of blood vessels we have in our body are equal to twice the circumference of the earth.

Applying oil to belly button CURES dryness of eyes, poor eyesight, pancreas over or under working, cracked heels and lips, keeps face glowing, shiny hair, knee pain, shivering, lethargy, joint pains, dry skin.

*REMEDY For dryness of eyes, poor eyesight, fungus in nails, glowing skin, shiny hair*

At night before bed time, put 3 drops of pure ghee or coconut oil in your belly button and spread it 1 and half inches around your belly button.

*For shivering and lethargy, relief from joint pain, dry skin*

At night before bed time, put 3 drops of mustard oil in your belly button and spread it 1 and half inches around your belly button.

*WHY PUT OIL IN YOUR BELLY BUTTON?*

Your belly button can detect which veins have dried up and pass this oil to it hence open them up.

When a baby has a stomach ache, we normally mix asafoetida (hing) and water or oil and apply around the naval. Within minutes the ache is cured. Oil works the same way.

Try it. There's no harm in trying.

You can keep a small dropper bottle with the required oil next to your bed and drop few drops onto navel and

How to identify a brain injury patient?

ByDr. Mahesh Sinha

Trauma - is often called a brain-stroke or in common language the brain-hemorrhage.

A party was going on, a friend stumbled a little and the people around him assured him that everything was fine, just because of the new boot perhaps, stumbled on a brick. Nearby people offered to call an ambulance which was politely declined by him.

Together friends helped clean him up and a new plate came up too. It seemed that Ingrid is not a bit in his own but he continued to enjoy the evening party. Later he had to be taken to the hospital. He died the same evening.

In fact, during the party, Ingrid had brain-hemorrhage. If any of the people present there would have identified

The topic for August 2017 monthly meeting was 'Something that everyone should know about cancer ' covered by Dr. Archit Pandit, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncologist, Max Hospital.

Cancer is a serious problem in India because it is detected in stage 1 and 2 only in 20-25 percent cases against 70 percent in the West primarily because we are not aware of the importance of screening tests and other basics about this chronic disease.

Statistics about cancer - occurrence is projected to increase 17 percent annually over the next 10 years, Africa, Asia and South America account for over 60 percent cases and by 2050 every household is expected to have one cancer patient are alarming.

However, the good news is that in 30 percent of the cases cancer is preventable.

this condition, today Ingrid would be among us.

Well, some people do not die with brain-hemorrhages - but they are forced to live a life of helplessness and helplessness for the whole life.

Stroke identification ---

A neurologist says that if any patient of the stroke arrives within three hours, they can sometimes reverse the effect of that stroke --- completely.

Keep in mind three things to identify stroke patients - and always remember this during the abnormal situation ---- S.T.R.

S --- Smile - You ask that person to smile.

T-- Talk - Ask the person to speak any single sentence like the weather is very good today.

R --- Raise - Ask the person to raise both the arms.

If this person has trouble doing any of the above three, then call an ambulance immediately and shift him/ her to the hospital and tell the attendant to inform the medical staff about these symptoms for faster diagnosis.

I talked to you on 2nd August 2017 that in your July Issue no 7, 2017 IROWA, New Delhi you are limited to the issues pertaining to the retirees of Indian Oil upto 2006 in regard to increase in medical facilities in comparison to ONGC. We have been part of Indian Oil in past, but you do not take care about us (the retirees after 2006) in case of medical facilities and other benefits. You said through mobile that we will get details of medical facilities of employees retiring upto now in next Issue of Oct-2017.

Thanking you.

Letter To Editor

In IROWA News issue No. 26 April, 2017 and 27 (July 2017) you really spike frankly. You have given 18 months long time to say that 'insensitivity' has crept into the working system to IOC and appealed to IOC Management to give a human touch to the long pending issues like medical and ex-gratia. You had also brought out how retirees of 70, 80 and 90s are languishing being forsaken by their children.

IOC Management should sympathise the real heros who contributed enormously for the stupendous growth of IOC, and come forward fast to mitigate their sufferings.

With regards – God Bless yourself.

Thanking you.R Satyanarayanan

The immune system of most of the patients undergoing treatment for chronic ailments becomes very weak. They become vulnerable to infections from multiple sources - the biggest and easily avoidable being well-wishers visiting the patients.

Well-wishers in such cases add to the medical woes of the patient. This problem first gave birth to the restricted visiting hours in hospitals and later to the passes for attendants and visitors at other times.

Thanks to the technology and human ingenuity. We can now see the patient and talk to him/ her using video calling feature on our I-Phones and other gadgets. Some of the apps and softwares do the same job. The

Technology - the great enabler

CAUTION: Video calls should be used only under medical advice and for very limited duration. These may not be feasible in certain conditions like coma and not advisable where rest is important for faster recovery.

I was passing near a house. Suddenly I heard the crying of a child from inside the house. There was so much pain in that baby's voice that I could not stop myself from enquiring why the child was crying.

Going inside, I saw a mother beating her 10 year old son and weeping herself with the child. I went ahead and asked, why are you beating this little baby while you even cry yourself?

She replied: Brother, father of this boy has become dear to God and we are very poor. After his demise I started working in people's homes and am barely able to make both ends meet. With meagre earnings I send him to school. He reaches his school late everyday and comes home late.

On the way he wastes time in playing and does not pay any attention to the studies, due to which the school uniforms are spoiled every day.

A few days after this incident one day I went to the vegetable market and suddenly my eyes fell on the same ten-year-old child. What I saw was that the child was walking in the market. Some vegetables fell on the ground while shopkeepers put them in bags. The child was quick to pickup such vegetables from the ground and collect in a bag.

I was having trouble seeing this view and wondering what was going on. I started following the child. When his bag was full of vegetables, he sat on the side of the road and started selling the vegetables with a loud voice. Mud smeared uniform and humility in the eyes of this innocent child put him apart from rest of the vegetable vendors.

Suddenly the shopkeeper in front of whose shop the child had set up his small shop got wild and abused and kicked the child. As a result his vegetables got scattered on the road. In one stroke he grabbed the boy and pushed him away.

The child began to collect his vegetable again with tears in his eyes and after a while he started putting his vegetables in front of another shop. This time his luck favoured him and his small shop was allowed to function by the shop owner behind his shop.

He sold his vegetables a little cheaper than the rest of the shops. Soon the sale was done and the child got up and entered a clothing store in the market. He gave the money to the shopkeeper, picked up his school bag

The Innocent Child

from the shop and headed for school without saying anything. I was also running behind him.

On the way the child washed his face and walked to school with quick steps. I also went to school behind him. He was late for the school by an hour for which he got good beating from his teacher.

I quickly went to the teacher and told him that the child was innocent. The teacher complained that child regularly came late by about one hour and got punished with severe beating. Many times he had also reported it to his mother.

After the punishment the child sat in class and started studying. I took the mobile number of his teacher and walked towards my house. After the school the child went to the market and did odd jobs for a little money. Thereafter, the innocent child came home received beating from his mother once again.

All night my head was shaking.

Early in the morning, i requested the teacher for meeting me in the vegetable market. I went to child's house and told his mother to accompany me as I wanted her to know why her son went to school so late.

The child came from the house directly to arrange for his small shop.

The three of us took positions in three places in the market hiding from the boy and looking at him. Even today, he was scolded and abused by many people, and after that the boy sold his vegetables and went to the clothes shop, gave money to the shopkeeper and collected his school bag. The child gave the money to the shopkeeper and today the shopkeeper gave him a lady suit length and said that all the money for the suit was fully paid. Take your suit length. The child put it in the school bag and went to school.

Suddenly, when I saw his mother, she was crying, she was crying with deep pain in her heart. Similar was the condition of the teacher. In the crying of both of them, I felt as if they had done a big mistake by punishing the innocent child and today they had realized their mistake.

His mother went home crying and the teacher went to school.

Even today, he was an hour late, he went straight to the teacher, kept his bag on the desk and took his position for receiving his daily punishment. The teacher got up from the chair and immediately embraced the child and cried so loudly that even I could not control my tears.

I handled myself and went ahead and held the teacher close to me. I asked the child what the suit in the bag is, for whom it is. The child responded by crying and telling that his mother worked at the houses of rich people and her clothes were torn and do not cover her properly and my mother has no money, so for her I bought this suit length.

I will give it to the tailor for stitching. After school I do odd jobs in the market every day to pay to the tailor for

stitching suit. Soon I will take the suit home and give it to my mother.

The teacher and I were crying and thinking for how long this society will continue to treat widows and innocent children like this.

As responsible citizens can't we not reduce some of our own needs on special occasions and bring happiness for less fortunate people in our society?

I used to go to the Temple with my mother. The temple had stairs.

I used to ask her why can't they build the temple on the ground? Why do you have to climb the stairs each and everyday?

*The excellent answer by mother.*

You need to rise above your level to reach God.

Each step of the stairs is a reminder that you are rising above your level in terms of your envy, greed, anger, ego and all evil parts of your life.

It also suggests that you have to climb the steps one by one, you can't just jump off from first step to the last step.

That is the cycle of life, once you conquer these aspects, you reach towards your inner core self........ The divine YOU...

*Temple Stairs*

Music TherapyDefinition:

Music therapy is a technique of complementary medicine that uses music prescribed in a skilled manner by trained therapists. Programs are designed to help patients overcome mental, physical, emotional, intellectual, and social challenges. Applications range from improving the well being of geriatric ( Senior

Citizen) as well as the young boy and girl patients in nursing homes to lowering the stress level and pain of women in labor. Music therapy is used in many settings, including schools, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, hospice, nursing homes, community centers, and sometimes even in the home.

Our first experience with music therapy is the 'lori' sung by our mothers to make us sleep, at times, within minutes.

Each individual is different. One may go on listening to Western music endlessly whereas for another a minute's playing may be unbearable.

Purpose:

Music can be beneficial for anyone. Although it can be used therapeutically for people who have physical, emotional, social, or cognitive deficiencies. Even those who are healthy can use music to relax, reduce stress, improve mood, or to accompany exercise/ walking. There are no potentially harmful or toxic side effects. Music therapists help their patients achieve a number of goals through music, including improvement of communication, academic strengths, attention span, and motor skills. They may also assist with behavioral therapy and pain management.

Forms of music therapy can be vocal, dance, instruments and acting.

India is the root of all 'gyaan' be it mathematics, astronomy or astrology.Ayurveda, Unani system of medicine, our age old sports like Kabaddi etc. have resurfaced. Music therapy is the latest particularly in the North.Music therapy has come with a big bang in some of the states whereas most other states are largely ignorant about it.
