    Indonesian Agriculture

Java45 percent of Indonesia population are farmers, which is 76,600,000 people.

About 60 percent of Indonesias food comes from Java. Java is one of the

most lush green fertile places in Indonesia , two thirds of all the volcanoes

in Indonesia are in Java , which makes it a fantastic area for crops and fruit

trees. One of the reasons that Java is so fertile is because when all the ash

falls from the ash clouds it goes onto the red basalt soil and it gives heaps of

    nutrients.

In Indonesia when it rains in the terraced farmland all the rain water goes

into the small paddy fields were people grow all there rice, and not one

drop of water goes to waste. Java gets more than 2000mm of rain per year

(80 inches) . In Java the average farmer would have a land size of between

2- 2.5 acres of land to grow their own crops. The private used farms make

rubber, tobacco, sugar, palm oil, hard fiber, coffee, tea, cocoa and

cicnchona are the most important. All up there are 1800 private owned

    estates. Rainfall

Java gets 2000mm of rain per year

Sumatra gets 2000mm of rain per year

Sulawesi gets 2000mm of rain per year

Irian Jaya gets 2000mm of rain per year

Bali gets 2000mm of rain per year

Kalimantan gets 2000mm of rain per year.

For Indonesia 2000mm of rain is average for them.

The Indonesian people think that having only 1000mm of rain per year isshockingly low. In some parts of Indonesia they receive rainfalls up to a

incredible 4000-5000mm of rain per year which is extremely wet

conditions. If deforestation keeps on happening drought will be in

Indonesias dictionary books and there will be no more lush green valleys

    with fresh drinking water.

Sumatra and KalimantanIndonesia gets there wood and palm oil from Sumatra and Kalimantan. In

Kalimantan and Sumatra, there has already been 1.4 million hectares of

    land cleared between 1990 2005 and rising . A shocking 42.64 million

hectares has been cleared in all of Indonesia. So for the last 20 years

Kalimantan and Sumatra have been deforestation agriculture and palm oil

    production.

One of the major problem is that Kalimantan and Sumatra will loos a huge

amount of their rainfall. If they keep on cutting down the rainforest

Kalimantan and Sumatra will only have about 1000mm of rain instead of

2000mm. Not only will they lose their rainfall but the wonderful orang-

    utans.

    The topic i learnt

What i have been studying in Indonesia lately is agriculture, i have been

finding out about the deforestation farming and the crops that grow in

different parts of Indonesia. I have also learnt what the rainfall is in

Indonesia. I have learnt all the different products that grow in Indonesia, i

have learnt how the Indonesians cultivate the land and it is extremelyintresting.
