Social ightA low voltage, modular, expandable lighting solution for outdoor parties, gatherings, and social events.

Many evening gatherings and events take place indoors. As a result, large amounts of energy are used on lighting and temperature control. By moving these events to outdoor locations such as porches, decks, or patios energy can be saved by enjoying comfortable evening temperatures. The warm light from Socialight’s three high efficiency LEDs and richly colored water resistant waxed paper encourage partygoers to venture outdoors and participate in social mingling. The modular system is sold as powered hanging cores and a set of colored paper shades. The core, meant to last an extended period of time, is hung from the power lines while the shell can be replaced or exchanged based upon the desired feeling of an event.

Purchased flatpacked, the assembly process gives the user a greater sense of ownership and personal pride in the product.

The set contains 4 core walls, a top cap with circuit board and hanger, bottom cap, and shell.

The core pieces snap together and the shell slides around the it. The shell locks into the core by twisting 45 degrees.

The owner can customize Socialight by purchasing the shade in a variety of colors and shapes

The form of the shade, the geometry of the core, and the assembly process were developed and refined through iterative modeling.

Iteration

The lights are hung by their attached hangers. The contacts in the hangers transfer power from the lines to the lights.

Working with an electronics specialist custom circuitboards were assembled with wide angle warm white LEDs.

Power

Once assembled, the 12 volt power lines are installed. The low voltage cable provide power and physically supports the lights.

dine\outA portable battery-powered sandwich press for the outdoors.

Some meals best eaten soon after their preparation. As a result, the locations where these can be enjoyed is limited. The portable dine\out series encourages users to prepare hot pressed sandwiches, ice cream, and blended drinks almost anywhere. Each device in the dine\out family was designed by a different team member.

The free floating top allows for flat pressing and even cooking. The long arms accommodate various thicknesses of sandwiches and allow for easy access.

The top and bottom of the press are connected by a pair of integrated arms.

Movement

The press is opened by hand and a combination of applied force and weight press the sandwich.

The hybrid grill-griddle cooking plates provide large surface area and grease runoff.

Easy recharging, extra power when needed, and interchangeability with other dine\out products are provided by the removable battery.

OmniGripA sustainable coffee cup holder.

Using no glues or adhesives and manufactured from materials which would normally be disposed by various businesses as waste, the OmniGrip is a sustainable alternative to the coffee cup sleeve. It is also designed for disassembly, allowing effortless recycling or reuse of its components.

The OmniGrip is held together with a single tensioned hook made from a bicycle spoke. This inserts through the shoe hanger support plate and, when tensioned, secures the handle together and locks the holding arms. This design allows for disassembly and replacement of parts. The wood used as a cover on the handle is reclaimed scrap wood and finished with Shellac, a 100% natural and environmentally safe substance.
