This fall, Talbert House celebrated the generosity of a family across three generations and their vision to provide supportive housing for vulnerable women through the dedication of Freeda Kay III. The 4-unit permanent supportive house serves as a safe and affordable home in which women who have experienced trauma can live with their children. Special thanks to Lois Michelman Cohen and her late husband, Phil; Karen Meyer and Rick Michelman; Roberta and John Michelman; Steve and Julie Shifman, and our partners at the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati for offering their time and treasure to purchase, restore and furnish Freeda Kay III.

A mother of four, Jessica and her children had been homeless for several months after escaping an abusive relationship. Soon after she was referred to Talbert House, Jessica and her children moved in to Freeda Kay II. “I have all positive things to say. It’s a very good place to raise your children.” Freeda Kay homes offer hope to women like Jessica and their children who want to feel safe and live independently.

Like many dads, Demetrius joined Talbert House’s Fatherhood Project to be a more responsible, committed and nurturing father. Through classes, coaching and support meetings, Demetrius has not only developed a stronger connection with his own children, but he has become a father figure to many other kids in need of a role model in the North College Hill community.

When Demetrius noticed that children in his neighborhood had to share bicycles, he wanted to lend a helping hand. He began collecting donations and fixing bicycles for kids in North College Hill. Demetrius was recently rewarded for his work with the 2019 WeTHRIVE! Champion for Health Equity Award.

Foundation for Talbert House Honors Fifth Third BankIn October, the Foundation for Talbert House met at Kenwood Country Club for its Annual Luncheon. This

event allowed the foundation to thank members of the 21st Century Society for their commitment to the agency and community. The Richard Shenk Visionary Award was presented to Fifth Third Bank.

Fifth Third Bank has graciously donated time and treasure to the agency, supporting events and housing initiatives for over twenty years. The Foundation Office at Fifth Third Bank has assisted the agency through the trusts it manages. “The financial impact across the organization is considerable. But the personal commitment to Talbert House of so many Fifth Third leaders over the years truly sets the organization apart,” said Foundation Board Chair Peter Hiltz.

This winter, Angelina (Angie) Perdue-Kemper and her co-workers at TriHealth were on a mission to bring joy to families living at Grand Development. The gift recipients ranged from a 3 month-old boy to a 70 year-old Vietnam veteran and his wife.

Talbert House is incredibly grateful for Angie, her co-workers and all of the volunteers who were committed to making this holiday season a special one for veteran families at Grand Development.
