Inspiration My inspirations have mostly come from other artists similar to Ego Honey and then aspects of films and music videos I may use.

The music video concepts are what I have enjoyed the most and taken the most from, such as the films, both being musical, have also given me ideas such as shot types. For example, the panning shot in Control.

R U Mine? – Arctic Monkeys – Music Video

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - Film Control - Film

Basket Case – Green Day – Music Video

R U Mine?//Arctic MonkeysThe ‘R U Mine?’ music video was a large inspiration of mine. Aspects such as the use of handheld camera and shooting most of it in a care seemed very different and was aesthetically pleasing. Having a dominantly performance aspect also made the music video was very quirky in the way they did it. The use of the black and white filter used throughout makes the video seem more polished and stylish and suits the genre of music. The dark mise-en-scene promotes the genre also. Within the video the use of the prologue inspired me into wanting to have an opening sequence to my video. The small imperfections was also something that fitted the genre as the indie rock movement incorporated and believed that unpolished was what defined them, as a subculture.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The WorldThe film inspired me as the comic book theme used throughout was something that I hadn’t seen before and seemed like It could be interesting to incorporate. Concepts such as the subtitling of names appealed to me due to its different style. Shots such as the close up zooms onto the instruments promotes closed spaces and makes the shot seem very claustrophobic, this can create connotations of awkwardness which is a main theme throughout my music video. The use of panning zooms makes he clips seem more fluid and smooth with juxtaposes the music style used in most of the film of ‘rock’ which Is stereotypically jagged, fast and uncomfortable. The yellow mise-en-scene makes the clips seem old and sickly, also promoting the genre of music.

ControlControl was a film made about the life of British band Joy Division, it takes aspects similar to that of the R U Mine? Video due to its use of black and white filter, making the film seem dated and edgy. The use of one fluid shot of when Ian Curtis walking out of his house with the leather jacket on made the whole scene seem dream like. It also changes the tone due to the characters mental health problems, by making it seem like he is in a dream like trance. The music doesn’t start until the character closes the door, much like my idea of the music not starting till the boy walking into his bedroom and playing his guitar. Due to this aspect of the clip it gives connotations of Ian Curtis being in control of the clip as the shot also tracks him, The costume is a very important part of this clip due to the use of the word ‘HATE’ written on the back of the leather jacket, making what once a ‘dreamlike’ tracking shot a very dark edgy shot.

Basket Case//Green DayBasket Case uses the aspect of adding band members throughout the video, this is something I am incorporating into my video as it seems more artistic and different. The chrome filter that is put over the juxtaposes to the lyrics which discuss themes such as mental health issues. When looking into the editing, the use of crossfades promotes a dream like concept throughout the video, it helps with transitions and juxtaposes to the stereotypical punk genre of being unpolished and rugged.
