Installing Sybase Client

The Sybase Client installation guide is provided as is. This installation Guide is made using Microsoft

Windows 7, 64bit and Sybase Client 15.5 64bit.

Sybase Installation

Install the 32bit or 64bit version depending on your operating system, start by running the Setup file.

Wait for the installation files to be prepared.

You’ll get a Sybase splash screen.

And then the actual installation screen, press Next to continue.

Select the language you want the End-user license agreement to be displayed in, if you agree select that

option and press Next.

Select a location for the Sybase Installation and press Next.

If the Directory does not exist you will get a message asking if you want the installation to create it for you,

press Yes.

Select Typical as installation type, and press Next.

Please wait for the installation to get the files ready, you may only see this screen as a flash.

Review your selections and press Install when ready.

You may again see a flash of a screen before the installation start. Wait for the installation to finish. This

may take some time depending on your computer.

Select if you want to use the ASE Plug-in to remember passwords or not, note the default option is Enable,

change to Disable if needed. And press Next.

Press Done to complete the installation.

Connecting to a Sybase DataBase Server

From the ‘Start Menu -> All Programs’ open the application: Open Client Directory Service Editor, when the

application is open press Ok on the Select Directory Service screen.

Right Click in the white part of the Server section and select Add from the context menu.

In the Input Server Name screen enter ivServer. Then press OK.

Double Click somewhere next to the Server Address field to get the Network Address Attribute screen,

press Add.

Select TCP as the Protocol and enter the Hostname for your Database server followed by ,5050

(,portnumber), my DataBase Server hostname is ibstest so I enter: ibstest,5050

Then press OK.

And press OK.

To test the connection, press the lightning button.

On the Ping screen press Ping.

You will get a confirmation that the Connection Succeeded. If not try using an IP address instead of the

Hostname and try again, if it still does not work check you’re Firewall to see if it is blocked.

Press OK and Done, then Select ‘File -> Close Directory Service’.

You may be asked to save, if so select Yes. Then Exit the Application from the File menu.

You have now completed the Sybase Client installation and configured a connection to a Database Server.

You can add more Database Servers if needed.
