INSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY
UNIT-1 INTRODUCTION
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
• Instruction,
• And Technology
16-NOV-15INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY 2
INSTRUCTION
• An instruction is a form of communicated information that is both directed and
explained for or task to be completed or executed.
• It is Latin word “instruct” means to “prepare” or “equip”. Instruction is a
spoken or written statement of what must be done ,especially delivered
formally, with official authority or as an order.(Encarta world English dic)
• Gagne Briggs and Wager (1992)
TECHNOLOGY
• Derived from two Latin words
• Techne means art, craft.
• Logos means science or knowledge.
• Technology means science of art and craft. Knowledge of skill way of doing
something
• When we apply the science of learning and communication to teaching, we
evolve a teachnology.
TECHNOLOGY
• Technology in any discipline is based on theoretical finding and on practical
and applied conclusions of that discipline in order to procure the grounds for
applying those findings to resolve the problems
• application of the principles of science in order to solve learning
problems (Seels & Richey)
MEANINGS OF TECHNOLOGY
• Objects: tools, machines, instruments
• Knowledge: the know-how behind technological innovations
• Activities: skills, methods, procedures, routines
• Process: begins with a need and ends with a solution
• Socio-technical system: The manufacturer and use of objects involving people
and other objects in combination
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
• Technology is commonly thought of in terms of gadgets, instrument, machines,
and devices….most (educators) will defer to technology as computers” --Muffoletto(1994)-p.5 Integrating Education Technology into Teaching (IETIT)
• However, Saettler (1990) urges
“The historical function of educational technology is a process rather than a
product
• Instructional technology is growing field of study which uses technology as a
mean to solve educational challenges both in classroom as well as in distant
learning
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
• It is the systematic way of designing, carrying out, and evaluating the total
process of learning and teaching in terms of specific goals ,based on
research.
• Instructional technology is systemic and systematic application of strategies
and techniques derived from behavioral, cognitive and any mechanical aid to
learning
DEFINITION
• The Association of Educational Communications and Technologies
denoted instructional technology as "the theory and practice of design,
development, utilization, management, and evaluation of processes and
resources for learning. (AECT 1992)
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
• Involves:
• Designing instruction
• Applying instructional theory to instructional design
• Selecting delivery systems and designing techniques for a given delivery
• Assessing human characteristics
• Conducting process and product evolution
• Managing change and adopting innovation
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
• Involves:
• Building teams and managing projects
• Integrating instruction
• Implementing delivery
• Using technology
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
A systematic way of designing, carrying out and evaluating the total process of
learning and teaching in terms of specific objectives, based on research in
human learning and communication, and employing a combination of human
and non-human resources to bring out more effective instruction.
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Instructional technology is the systemic (concerned with the whole of something)
and systematic (done according to a plan) application of strategies and
techniques derived from behavioural, cognitive and constructivist theories to the
solution of instructional problems.
NATURE OF INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
• Base is science
• Studies the effects of science and technology upon teaching and learning
• A continuous, dynamic, progressive and effect producing method
• Accepts school as a system
• Engineering technology is not instructional technology.
NATURE OF INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY• Audio visual aids con not be termed as instructional technology
• It can not solve each and every problem of education
• It can never replace teacher, because of three aspects of
instructional technology:
• 1. Input
• 2. Output
• 3. Process
