Who knew Argos was so popular? Soon we’llknow if its new owner will be Sainsbury’s orSteinhoff. Sainsbury’s wants to utilise theArgos distribution network and have storeswithin its supermarkets while competingwith Amazon and John Lewis. Steinhoffhasn’t said why it has bid, but presumably itwants a far greater slice of the furnituremarket (and others) and to give more ordersto its factories.

According to Retail Economics, Argos iscomfortably the third largest retailer in thesector (behind Ikea and DFS) with a marketshare about twice that of Harveys andBensons combined. Its UK Furniture andFlooring report says that: ‘Although Argos hascontinued to struggle across some parts ofthe business, for example electricals, we see

the investment in digital driving forwardfurniture sales. The company remains wellplaced to leverage a strong multi-channelproposition. Harveys and Bensons willstruggle to capitalise on positive underlyingmomentum as key competitors offer bettervalue and more desirable shoppingenvironments.’

If you agree then perhaps Steinhoff needsArgos more than first thought.

A carpet manufacturer was taken over lastmonth and it didn’t involve Victoria adding toits portfolio. H Dawson Wool’s acquisition ofAxminster Carpets places the carpetproducer within a much larger (£31m in2014) operation and completes Axminster’sjourney from administration and buyout.

Congratulations to Sealy for showing itscommunity spirit donating up to £40,000 (atRRP) of beds to those affected by flooding inCumbria.

This issue is the 100th edition of InteriorsMonthly. On behalf of everyone on the team I would like to say a very large thank you toour readers, advertisers, contributors; thoseinvolved in the design, production andprinting of the magazine, and everyone elsewho has helped reach this milestone.

High streets will see ashake-up regardless ofwhether it is Sainsbury’s orSteinhoff International thatends up acquiring Argos

Sealy is to donate up to £40,000 ofproducts to people in Cumbria hit by therecent flooding.

The company has made a donation ofbed frames and mattresses, worth up to£40,000 at RRP, to Age UK West Cumbria,Age UK Carlisle and Eden, and EdenFlood Volunteers, which will eachallocate the items to residents in thecommunity who need them. Sealy is alsourging other businesses and furnituremanufacturers to pledge their support.

‘We’re a Cumbrian company based inAspatria, and the flooding appeal is veryclose to our hearts. Many Sealycolleagues and their friends and familymembers have been directly affected bythe terrible weather conditions weexperienced not only in December lastyear, but on several subsequent

occasions, the results of which have beenabsolutely devastating each time,’ saysNeil Robinson, Sealy sales and marketingdirector.

He says the company has also showedsupport with a donation to thecommunity foundation, providingsupplies and catering for rescue teams, and is now teaming up with Age UK andEden Flood Volunteers, to help residentsreturn to homes.

‘These organisations help those inneed in the community every single dayand we’re incredibly pleased to be ableto support them with their efforts. We areaware how many others have beenplaying their part when it comes to thisimportant cause, and we wouldabsolutely love to see businessescontinuing the great work to help those

International wool merchant H Dawson Wool has acquired amajority stake in carpet producer Axminster Carpets.

The deal comes almost three years after a consortiumheaded by Stephen Boyd bought the manufacturer out ofadministration.

Additional support from H Dawson, increased financialresource and further strengthening of the seniormanagement team will take Axminster Carpets on the nextphase of its journey, according to the carpet manufacturer.

H Dawson, established in 1888, is an important supplierto the wool carpet manufacturing sector in the UK andthroughout the world.

‘This investment in Axminster Carpets demonstrates theongoing commitment of H Dawson to the wool carpetmanufacturing sector and forms an essential element of itsstrategy to develop alliances throughout the supply chainswithin which it operates for the benefit of all chainparticipants,’ says a statement.

‘The passion and expertise within H Dawsoncomplements the strengths of Axminster Carpets. We willencourage increased market and consumer awarenessabout the many benefits arising from the use of wool-richcarpets in a wide variety of environments and applications,’says Jo Dawson, H Dawson Wool chairman.

‘Our business sells wonderful high quality carpets that arepredominantly made from wool. It makes real sense that our

new owners are experts in the sourcing of our primary rawmaterial. Their wool expertise, global reach and long-termcommitment to the industry will add real value to ourcompany. We are excited about the future growthaspirations for the business,’ says Steve Winslet, AxminsterCarpets chief executive.

According to Companies House, director Robert Day hadbeen the largest Axminster shareholder with 54.05% ofshares, followed by Boyd – who resigned as a director on 13 January – with 15%, and Emily Hargrove and NatalieMarshall with 10.26% each

Sealy donates beds for Cumbria flood victimsaffected to get their homes back inorder,’ adds Robinson.

Joan Bailey, Age UK Carlisle and Edeninformation and advice supervisor, says:‘During our work with the communitywe’ve experienced first-hand some of thedamage caused by December’s floods. Itis incredibly disruptive, especially toelderly residents who may spend a lot oftime in their homes and rely on thesupport of others to get these homesrepaired. The flooding didn’t only impacton the ground floor of the houses, butthe resulting damp has damaged roomsand furniture on the higher levels too;the mattresses will therefore beabsolutely vital. We’d like to thank Sealyfor its kind donation from us here at AgeUK and the community members theseitems will go to.’

Once more Associated Weavers come to thefore with a stunning new look for the modernhome. We already know how people clamourfor super-softness in their carpets and iSense, only launched in 2014, has satisfied thatdemand with increasing success. Now we’veadded an extra element to its appeal. Themagic of iSense stems from the unique 100%polyamide ‘memory’ fibres that we use toproduce its amazing bounce-back qualities. If things like furniture cause indents on thesurface, the polyamide yarn naturally springsback to its original state, so iSense will maintainits fresh new look throughout years of harduse. Now though, because of the very highquantity of fine filaments in its construction,we’ve been able to introduce some delicatestrands of silvery Lurex to give it a glittery, sparkly effect. We call it Surprise.

Our innovative manufacturing prowess. Our market-leading reputation. Our memorable brands.Everything about Associated Weavers means that we’re the name you can’t forget. And you’llsoon develop a soft spot for iSense Surprise too. With Surprise, we’ve created a unique productfit for the glitterati. Order your displays of iSense Surprise now for a Spring bonanza of sales.Because we all love surprises.

A sparkling new idea for the home

Leading the way

A unique look for every roomOur research has shown that Surprise will sit very nicely in any room of the home. It’ll add anextra dimension to even the smallest of spaces. The look is subtle. The technology is astounding.Saxony-style Surprise is offered at 1520 gram weight, in 4m or 5m widths, and is fully guaranteedwith a 20-year wear warranty. Available in ten fashionable shades, we’ve naturally used starsigns to identify the colours: each one, from Jet black Aries to mid beige Scorpio, is a naturalchoice for your display of Associated Weavers products. The clever addition of the sparkly Lurexto Surprise will give an extra appeal to everyone’s favourite room, without any compromise tothe ultra-softness of the carpet. Trio join CFThe Carpet Foundation has boosted itsmanufacturing membership, with threemore companies becoming Patronmembers.

Edel Telenzo and Whitestone Weavershave signed up, while Cavalier has re-joined. They join Brintons, Brockway,Cormar, Ulster Carpets and Victoria inbacking the Carpet Foundation togetherwith the British Wool Marketing Board.

Talks are ongoing with several othercompanies.

Towards the end of 2015, the CarpetFoundation said it would focus primarilyon its retail members to simplify itsmessage.

‘I am delighted with the response frommanufacturers. It is a real boost to getnew members and illustrates the desireof suppliers to the UK retail trade tosupport independent retailers. Talking toour new recruits, they not only want abody that will be their “voice” but alsorecognise the work being done. It is nowmore manageable for them financiallyand membership is more inclusive,’ saysAndrew Stanbridge, Carpet Foundationchief executive.

Fitting testThe National Institute of Carpet andFloorlayers is to relaunch its Carpet Fitterof the Year competition.

The 2016 competition is open to all UKfitters (including non-NICF members),with a prize package including £1,000,tools, winner’s trophy, one year’s freeMaster Fitter membership and an iPad,donated by Which? Trusted Traders.

The deadline for online entry, atwww.nicfltd.org.uk, is 31 March.

‘The Fitter of the Year competition lastran in 2001. I was fortunate enough tomake the finals of the competition threetimes; an experience that was onlyeclipsed by my being on the winningteam in the European Floor LayingCompetition in 2005. I always said that ifI were ever NICF president I would makeit my mission to bring the competitionback – after all, there isn’t a fitter in theland that wouldn’t want UK “Fitter of theYear” on his van,’ says Ian James, NICFpresident.

The final will be held at The FlooringShow on 18-19 September.

Mohammed Rafiq, former owner ofKozee Sleep and Layzee Sleep, hasbeen jailed for two years and threemonths. A jury at Leeds Crown Courtfound him guilty of conspiracy totraffic individuals within the UK, lastmonth.

The court had been told how he ranthe companies for about two years on‘cheap slave labour’ by usingHungarians he knew had beentrafficked into the UK by Hungariannationals Janos Orsos and Ferenc Illes.

At the trial, the jury heard Rafiqknew Orsos’s organisation wouldsource him staff and he ‘went alongwith their exploitation as a slaveworkforce’.

The men were promised goodwages, housing and food if theytravelled to the UK. Instead they livedin shared, cramped and squalidaccommodation, with 42 men sharinga two-bedroom house in Batley.

Sentencing Rafiq, judge ChristopherBatty said Orsos was a ‘ruthlessgangmaster’ who preyed on hiscountrymen, but that his ‘hideous

exploitation’ was only possible withthe help of businessmen like Rafiq.

‘You accepted the cheap labour thathe found you regardless of how theywere being treated. I’m satisfied youdid nothing to help, you did not care.’

Detective Inspector Andy Leonard,of West Yorkshire Police, said the menhad been ‘controlled heavily’ by thetraffickers.

‘They had very little money, theywere not allowed out and they weretransported to and from theworkplace. They worked long hours, they worked seven days a week, up to15 or 16 hours a day, every single dayof the week for little or no pay. Theyhad no contract, no rights and wereexploited terribly,’ he said.

Leonard said Orsos had been paid£200 per week for each worker butwould only give the men £10 each, leaving them ‘totally helpless andtotally controlled.’

Orsos and Illes were jailed for fiveyears and three years respectively in2014 after admitting peopletrafficking offences.

London beachhead: Kartell has opened its firstcompany owned store inthe UK, describing it as an‘operational beachhead’.The store, on BromptonRoad, Knightsbridge, occupies two floors andstocks furnishings, tableware, lighting, fragrances, bathroomfittings and fashionaccessories: the company’snew concept forpresenting the all-roundKartell lifestyle.‘London has always beenone of the objectives ofthe expansion andinternationalisation strategy pursued by Kartell.Today, we have finally found the right locationfor a brand which focuses heavily on productinnovation and brand recognition, and aims at

communicating an all-round lifestyle concept,’says Claudio Luti, Kartell president. ‘So, I see thisnew flagship store as a sort of operationalbeachhead for setting up new projects.’

The Takeover Panel has givenSainsbury’s and SteinhoffInternational until then to make abid for parent Home Retail Group.Steinhoff, which already ownsBensons, Cargo and Harveys in theUK along with the Slumberland,Relyon, Dunlopillo, Staples andMyer’s bed brands, outbid thesupermarket chain by 6% with a£1.42bn cash offer.

Mike Dennis, a retail analyst atCantor Fitzgerald, said he expectedSainsbury’s to at least matchSteinhoff’s offer, which was moreattractive to investors because itwas all cash. Sainsbury’s offer is amixture of cash and Sainsbury’sshares.

Sainsbury’s is likely to have tofind more potential cost savings, benefits or assets sales during itsdue diligence to justify raising itsbid, with a number of shareholderssceptical about the takeover, he

‘Sainsbury’s might have a morecompelling, forward-thinkingstrategy for Argos ... but the risk forSainsbury’s is that Steinhoff willraise the bar to a level thatSainsbury’s cannot match,’ saysScott Ransley, a retail analyst atStifel.

It’s time. Exactly when will depend onthe weather, but it’s going to happen andit’s going to happen soon. Every year forthe past 15 years I’ve predicted it andevery year I’ve been right.

When the winter turns to spring theinsects that have been tucked away innooks and crannies to survive the cold ofwinter will be out and about again, readyto do what insects do to ensure thecontinuation of their species. And that, of course, includes carpet beetles.Unfortunately, when their appearancecoincides with that of a new carpet acustomer will, unsurprisingly perhaps, believe they came as a free gift from thestore.

It’s only adult beetles that live throughthe winter. This year’s adults won’t bearound until later in the season, aftermating, laying eggs, hatching, living aslarvae and then pupating into adultshave taken place. A process that will takeat least four to six weeks, and probablymuch longer.

What’s more, carpet beetles – or,rather, their larvae – feed on animalfibres (wool, as far as carpets areconcerned) so synthetic carpets can’t

Carpet bug bears Spring will see the return of carpet beetles

Carpet beetles can be 1mm-12mm in size

provide a home for them or their larvae.Wool or synthetic, the carpet

manufacturing process includesmechanical and heat processes thatwould kill and remove any insects, eggsor larvae in the fibres. You can thereforebe certain that a new carpet will not beinfested with insects, old or new, carpetbeetles or any other.

So, be ready. If at some time over thenext few weeks you get a complaintabout carpet beetles in a new carpet askyourself these questions:

Are the insects carpet beetles? I’veinvestigated ‘carpet beetles’ that turnedout to be silverfish, woodlice, rice weevilsand even maggots. None of these areassociated with carpets or cause damageto them.

Is the carpet wool or synthetic? If it’ssynthetic, the beetles didn’t come fromthe carpet and won’t live in it.

Are the beetles adults or larvae(known, incidentally, as woolly bearsbecause they look like tiny hairywoodlice)? If they’re adults, they’re lastyear’s insects and didn’t come from thecarpet.

If an infested carpet is wool and was

Richard Renouf

fitted last year or earlier, then it’s possiblethat carpet beetles (or common clothesmoths) laid eggs in it last season and thelarvae have caused damage by eatingthe pile fibres.

While the damage can’t be repaired(unless it’s a small area that can beretufted) the infestation can be dealtwith by using an insecticide spray that’smarked as suitable for beetles. These areeasy to find in supermarkets and DIYstores, and even from a vet. Advise yourcustomer to follow the instructionscarefully and to repeat the treatment atfortnightly intervals at least three timesto ensure any new hatchlings areeradicated.

And for the future? The best way toprevent insect infestation of any carpet isto keep it regularly vacuumed, includingthe areas normally out of sight – underfurniture, for example – as insects lovedark, undisturbed places. If you sell awool carpet at this or any other time ofyear, it’s good advice to give customers.

Carpet beetle larvae are known as woolly bears

Golden jubileeKnoll marks the work of twodesigners with a touch of gilt

As part of its celebration of the life and work of HarryBertoia, Knoll is to release an 18k gold-plated versionof his Diamond chair (pictured). The choice of goldechoes the golden quality of Bertoia’s favouredmaterial beryllium, a copper alloy traditionally used tomake non-sparking tools for working with a livecurrent that is 50% more elastic than steel.

Knoll will also mark the 50th anniversary of thePlatner Collection with an 18k gold-plated version. When he designed the living and dining collectionWarren Platner intended it to be gold-plated. Pulse: the next generationLVT from Quick-Step

34 Interiors Monthly March 2016

Finger on the pulseQuick-Step continues to advance its LVTSynonymous with innovation andquality, Quick-Step continues to be a benchmark within the wood, laminateand LVT sectors with products that push the envelope of design andperformance.

Last year the company redefinedlaminate with the launch of itsImpressive waterproof laminate flooring. Now with Pulse, the latest collection ofLivyn LVT, it has developed what it says isthe most stable vinyl flooring, which willbe in stores in May.

But it is not just Pulse’s stability underextreme temperature that’s attractingattention, this floor is more realistic,hard-wearing, water-tight, warm, sound-absorbent and free of phthalates. Such isthe technological shift that it could beseen as a new generation of LVT.

Pulse offers 20 designs that payhomage to the latest interior trends. Oakremains a favourite for flooring and so isa mainstay within the range, yet thecollection also celebrates the wave of

Scandinavian design with pine looks andthe rise of the rustic with vintage effects. The design team has looked at everydetail to create the best in realism.

Quick-Step makes its LVT in a uniqueway that means Pulse matches thesurface texture to the woodgrainbeneath. Across the extra long andsuper-wide planks, the look is even moredramatic. The company’s state of the artLVT factory in Wielsbeke has enabled itto introduce Pulse, containing manytechnologies that simply weren’t possiblebefore.

A unique horizontal process not toodissimilar to the production of itslaminate floors is used. This processeliminates much of the stress placedupon the product during manufacture, and along with the composition and clicksystem provides Livyn floors with itsdimensional stability.

Extensive testing by Quick-Step’sresearch and development team hasfound that Pulse floors are exceptionally

resistant to high temperatures, offeringthe most stable LVT for floatinginstallation currently on the market.

Next comes the special embossingmachine that gives Pulse its signaturematching structure. This high-techequipment introduces a tactility not seenbefore and Quick-Step believes it is onlyjust starting to realise the potential of thetechnology.

Taking up nearly a third of theproduction line, Livyn floors undergo aheating, cooling and reheating processunder strictly controlled conditions, ridding the floors of any remainingtension to provide even more stability.

Finally comes the ‘Five S principle’ ofwear layers that protects the shine (aconstant matt finish features on Livyn),and protects against stains, scuffs, scratches and scents. Most marks andspills can simply be wiped away with adamp cloth, and even tough stains likemarker pen are quickly removed.Visit: www.quick-step.co.uk

Inspiration

Beaulieu InternationalGroup’s wide spectrum ofproducts has been basedon four key trends this year

The group highlighted four trends atDomotex that shaped its products for2016.

SENSEWe go back to an easier life that evolvesaround quality. With subtle lines andfine materials as a starting point, Sensetypes shun fashion statements, gaudyinteriors and loud colours. Interiorshave a warm Scandinavian look, withlots of matt tones. Subtle interiors withdesign accents fit in this mindset.

BLOOMMost of us have sedentary jobs, we’returning into office beasts, but it’s not

healthy so everyone wants to go out. We’re looking to get in touch withnature, co-suming is the new mindset:the new ‘having’ is ‘sharing’: the car, thehouse, the garden, our wardrobe.Bloom interiors show a lot of greenshades, matching jolly and brightcolours: colours that make you happy.

GLAMGlam people are spenders, they want toenjoy life without feeling guilty: moneyis transient and it is wise to enjoyluxury instead. Glam is baroque andover the top. Interiors combine richtextures and sensual fabrics withantiques. Opulent and exuberantly

romantic. You select objects with ahistory, objects from your past, andturn them into something new. Unique, eccentric and slightly decadent.

SOURCE The Internet is everywhere but Sourcepeople need to be disconnected: theylove working with their hands, experimenting, back to the craft. Theylove everything that is pure andauthentic: making coffee, homemadebread, ancient toys. Source interiors arecharacterised by ancient furniture androugher materials, hand-knottedcarpets on a rough parquet, animalskins, earthy or stone-erosion colours.

Buzz introduces a touch of nostalgia

The resultsVINYLBeauflor has introduced four collections.

Buzz introduces a touch of nostalgia.Inspired by ancient Portuguese ceramicsand Victorian patterns, the collection hasa beige, grey and blue colour palette thatmatches the Bloom and Sense trends.

Project comes in black and white witha combination of unicolour andpatterned all over and has a morepractical appearance, ideal for the morefunctional rooms of the home.

Galaxy offers a wide range of colours, designs, tiles and woods, in a grey andbeige colour palette.

Magnum is a 4.3mm thick collectionwith a 0.4mm wear layer and PU lacquer, designed for heavy-duty domestic use.Its deep wood embossing finish gives it anatural appearance. ARTIFICIAL GRASSTuftgrass was expanded with a 60mmpile height, while its Xtinguishtechnology prevents artificial grass fromburning and greatly reduces smokeemissions. The company says it is the first30mm artificial grass that combinessoftness, maximum safety and ease ofinstallation, since no infill or spraying isneeded.CARPETIdeal’s Touche is a new generation ofsuper-soft carpets, in polyamide as wellas polypropylene. The polyamide

Personal choicesBerryAlloc’s Pure vinyl planks are proving popular with consumers, here’s what some of them decided to use in their homes

Nothing beats the feeling of coming home after a hard day’s workand relaxing in the warm surroundings of a cosy living room. Noone knows this better than Katy and Nathan. That’s why they fell forthe pleasant feel of vinyl plank flooring.

‘In our living room we like everything to be calm and cosy. Shoesoff, lie on the sofa and enjoy. No stress, just relax. To create thatatmosphere we picked a warm floor that reflected our lifestyle.

‘The BerryAlloc Pure vinyl plank collection came in a wide varietyof designs and colours. There were more than 40 unique andexclusive wood and tile designs. With such a wide range, from softto more rustic, we had no trouble finding the floor we liked. Theclick system made it really easy to install.

‘Today, we enjoy the realistic look of our Pure floor, and its warmwood structure and subtle bevels. Home sweet home,’ says Nathan.

The bedroom is a place to enjoy a good night’s sleep. That’s why it has to feel comfortable, and soothe allyour senses. ‘Our kids are allergic to dust, so wewanted to be sure the environment was hygienic andeasy to clean,’ says Ann.

‘A friend of ours suggested we lay Pure vinyl planksin all the bedrooms. They come in a wide range ofdesigns and colours, and have the right qualities tocreate a nice, quiet bedroom environment. The specialacoustic vinyl top layer provides an ultra-light walkingsound and a soft and warm surface. No noise of yourchildren’s feet when they’re running around and nomore cold feet when you have to get out of bed atnight. Moreover, the vinyl coating makes the floor easyto clean and ultra hygienic. You just need a little waterand a mop.’

Tastes vary and not just in terms of food. When it comes to interiordesign different people like different things. Are you into country orurban styles? Do you prefer modern or classic? Patricia and Eric hada taste of the Pure collection and were delighted.

‘A kitchen floor isn’t about style alone. It has to fit into the biggerpicture. It needs to be practical, easy to clean and hard wearing. Thekitchen is the centre of our home and the place where everybodycomes together to eat, drink, work and play. Once in a while thingsget spilt on the floor or someone runs over it in dirty shoes,’ saysPatricia. ‘That’s why we fell for Pure vinyl planks. Moduleo’s latest innovation allowsfor personalised flooring

Like many of the best ideas, the thinking behind ModuleoMoods is simple: take 10 shapes and combine them to create anindividual floor. By mixing combinations of a standard plank, medium plank, small plank, slim plank, short plank twochevrons, hexagon, diamond and triangle an almost limitlessselection of floors can be created.

The planks are based on a width that is four or eight timesthe height of the plank. Every rectangular plank is half, doubleor a third of the size of the other planks to create maximumflexibility and compatibility. Geometric shapes interlock atoblique angles to create intricate and daring kaleidoscopicpatterns.

Moduleo has created 110 designs using its Transform andImpress LVT ranges that, when ordered with the order code, itknows which pattern and colour combination is required andcan quickly work out the amount needed for the project.Customers can also create their own look.

For example, the Chevron Columns pattern is a strikingdecorative combination of the chevron basic pattern with a slimplank forming a stripe along the length of the floor. This createsa colonial look emphasising the length of the room.

The Diamond Origami design gives the impression of astylised flock of birds travelling across the floor in an abstractand gentle play of geometric lines and dynamic and angularshapes.

Easily the boldest and powerful pattern in the collection isTriangles. Its large angular shapes have a strong presence anddominant rhythm that plays a leading role in even the mostexpressive of rooms.

Not all designs are as bold, with basket weave, herringbone, staggered columns, hexagon, honeycomb, chevron andstaggered bands options also available.Visit: www.moduleo.co.uk

Design and innovation keeps IVC Group at the helm of the vinyl marketWhile IVC Group is Europe’s largest manufacturer ofheterogeneous vinyl, it is also making waves in the LVT andcommercial sectors. So much so it is investing £138m in twonew factories to double its LVT production, reflecting thesuccess of Moduleo.

Yet the company’s strength is in not just its size, but also inthe attention it pays to design development and productinnovation.

Running a design and innovation hub at its Belgianheadquarters, IVC Group creates unique designs that aren’tavailable anywhere else. A team of designers and productmanagers works constantly on developing collections, lookingfor trends at international design events and much closer tohome too, scouring magazines and the Internet for emerginglooks.

IVC is also focused on research and development in vinylflooring and has been the first to market with many innovationsin heterogeneous vinyl. It also means that IVC Group has someof the most advanced production facilities in the world. Themanufacturer has also invested heavily in minimising theimpact of vinyl flooring, eliminating potentially harmfulingredients from compositions and utilising renewable energywherever possible.

This constant development is of course costly, but it issomething that has kept IVC Group right at the forefront ofdesign development in all the sectors in which it operates. Thegrowth experienced with the relatively young Moduleo and ItecContract Floors is testament to this model working well and ofcourse, the track-record of Leoline and Avenue means it haslong-term value too.

Of course, this innovation and investment would meannothing without customer service and IVC Group is continuallylooking for new ways to improve right through the supply

chain. From introducing more designs and decors to providebetter choice and improved performance features at lower pricepoints to ensuring a reliable supply of products in stock andready to ship, as well as improved touch points for retailers andconsumers alike, all brands benefit from a focus on deliveringexcellence. Doubled capacity for LVT production will also helpthe manufacturer to respond to the demand for its Moduleobrand.

The success of IVC Group, with the production of more than100million sqm of flooring a year, demonstrates that anunwavering commitment to continued investment in designand manufacturing does not go unnoticed. Through its fourbrands; Avenue, Leoline, Itec Contract Floors and Moduelo, theIVC Group provides retailers across the country with some ofthe most technically advanced vinyl flooring available today, backed by customer service and value.Visit: www.ivcgroup.com

Going globalHouse of Fraser has created fourtrends inspired by travel and nature –Traveller, Ceremony, Amazon andRegatta. Visit: wwwhouseoffraser.co.uk

Amazon Linea Home Inspired by the lush foliage of exotic isles, this colour-rich collectioncombines hand-drawn studies of tropical flora and fauna with the texturedsimplicity of abstract mark making, brush strokes and tribal decoration.Dynamic with a hint of nostalgia, the Amazon trend has a vibrant andprimitive feel across pattern, colour and craft. ‘A verdant colour palette ofsharp citrus, jade and fuchsia interspersed with captivating combinations ofdark wood and gold is the essence of this distinctive look,’ says Roberts.‘Celebrate the summer season in exotic style by teaming graphic botanicalprints and rich textures with earthy glazed dinnerware. Contrast is key, soadd tribal patterned accessories and flashes of gold to complete this eclecticscheme,’ says Kate Thompson, House of Fraser head of home buying.

Traveller Linea Home Global trail inspires the eclectic textures, prints and time-worn palette of theTraveller trend. A veritable collection of textiles and nomadic finds exudebohemian charisma, striking a balance between the old world and the new.‘Weathered finishes and burnished metals underpin the mood; team withkilim and paisley pattern for laid-back ambience full of mixed culturalinfluences,’ says Sue Roberts, House of Fraser director of home design.

Ceremony Linea Home Elegant in its simplicity, the Ceremony trend evokes a serene scene.Traditional chinoiserie is reworked in a contemporary way and mixed withsimple geos and origami style textures and embroideries, showcasing theunderstated beauty of both textiles and ceramics.

Regatta Characterised by exuberant print and pattern, Regatta offers a bold and playful collection with a retro twist. Taking its cue from the 1930s boat party, vintage florals and simple stripes sit together against striking geometrics in a marine inspired palette. ‘Opt for bright accents, simplified shapes and striking pattern againstcrisp white for a stunning summer scheme,’ says designer Lois Vincent.

Contemporary edgeLouis de Poortere showed its modern side

Louis de Poortere used this year’s eventto showcase its service to furnitureretailers by expanding its customer basewith a series of launches.

This mix of rugs and carpetsdemonstrated the brand’s appetite forpremium design underfoot, according toAlan Russell, Louis de Poortere UK salesdirector.

‘We were delighted to introduce ournewest rug collections, Mad Men andMosaiq, alongside an exclusive previewof a new line in broadloom. We hope thistrend-led approach will appeal tofurniture retailers and their customers aswe head into SS16, with a service andquality typical of the Louis de Poorterebrand.’

Mad Men rugs were a headline act atthe show, with designs inspired by thegolden boys of the 1960s responsible forAmerica’s most memorable brandimages. Despite Louis de Poortere’sunmistakably vintage roots, Mad Mentakes a contemporary turn with straightand broken lines, dull and shiny yarnsand smooth and rugged pencil strokesholding sway.

Unconventional, eccentric, bold: MadMen is arguably the company’s mosttalked about collection, woven onjacquard wilton looms in high glosspolyester and cotton chenille.

Mad Men has a foil in sisterintroduction, Mosaiq, with its extra touchand texture.

‘Mosaiq, subtler by nature, featuresflower motifs with tribal geometrics, amix of Louis de Poortere’s heritage styleand new-found contemporary edge.Woven in numerous colourways for useacross a spectrum of interiors, Mosaiq iscotton chenille as it should be: fabulousto the touch, yet equally stunning indesign,’ says Russell.

The company also previewed its latestdevelopments in broadloom carpet. TheHaute Couture collection holds wall-to-wall offerings featuring wool and woolblends to be explored by both thedomestic and contract sectors, withtexture and style only made possiblethrough use of jacquard wilton looms. Catalan designer Eugeni Quitllet graduated from La Llotja ArtSchool in Barcelona and readily describes himself as a‘Disoñador’, a contraction of the Spanish words for designer anddreamer.

Quitllet has quickly become a pioneer to watch tounderstand our ever-changing paradoxical age. The Tabu chairis an explosion of life he imagined for Alias (2014), an idea thatblossomed into a seat that synthesises nature and the roboticsrequired for its digital sculpture. In 2014 he designed his firstcollection of outdoor furniture Bum Bum, forVondom. Showing organic and evolvinglines, the seats are equipped withBluetooth to play music: ‘like shells forlistening to the sea.’

with Philippe Starck in 2009. In 2015, the Tube chair for Mobles114 and Dream-Air for Kartell embody the designer’s passion forweightlessness. The former, with its tubular structure whichmixes the 20th century’s vocabulary of modern design, and thelatter, which looks ‘like a scarf in the wind, a dream suspendedin the air.’

The same year, he applied the same idea of lightness tocreate Cloud-io and Vase-o for Kartell, which take the shape ofwater droplets condensed to form a seat and a translucent vase.

He also worked with Lexon and imagined the Dream Toolcollection, a series of flowing landscapes, where functionsappear as if suspended in a frame. It has now become hissignature concept, which he had already started to explore with

the Light Air lamp (2011) and Shine vase(2013) for Kartell.
