itiNERARy... Day 1 istanbul Discover hidden charms on a walk

through Istanbul’s bustling backstreets, then watch the sun set

over an impressive Sultanahmet skyline. If arriving early, be sure

to get lost in the labyrinth of laneways in the Grand Bazaar - a

shopper’s paradise. Maybe head down to the Bosphorus, grab a

fresh fish roll for lunch and take a ferry cruise on one of the world’s

most celebrated waterways. Alternatively, travel to the stylish

Taksim Square area for a leisurely stroll along the main street with

the locals. Days 2-3 Gallipoli Peninsula Travel past fields of

sunflowers and take in breathtaking views of the Sea of Marmara

en route to the Gallipoli Peninsula. Be moved by a walk through the

battlefields where hundreds of thousands of lives were lost. Break

from the tragic past and snorkel the waters of the Dardenelles,

keeping an eye out for a WWI shipwreck. Day 4 Selcuk Step

back in time on a visit to the historic Roman ruins of Ephesus, then

stretch legs on a walk back to the town of Selcuk. On arrival be sure

to indulge in an invigorating scrub at the local hamam - it’ll be just

the tonic to soothe tired muscles! Day 5 Fethiye The seaside town

of Fethiye provides a chance to visit the deserted Greek village of

Kayakoy. Later, enjoy a stroll along Fethiye’s charming harbour

full of traditional gulets, or grab a cheesy pide and head to the

market. Day 6 Faralya Hike the ancient trails of the Lycian Way,

through olive groves and carob gardens, and past incredible relics

of ancient civilisations. Visit remote villages and take in stunning

vistas of the Mediterranean along the way. Days 7-9 Kas Trek

Kabak. Exchange hiking boots for paddles on a kayaking adventure

over a sunken Byzantine city, then swap to bikes for a cycle through

the Kas countryside, past rustic villages with top-notch views of the

Turquoise Coast. When the sun sets, head to the local market to

purchase a beautifully hand-crafted memento or two. Days 10-11

Pamukkale Resembling frozen waterfalls, the chalky travertines

at Pamukkale are a surreal sight. The waters here have been famed

for their medicinal qualities since Roman times. Explore the ancient

city of Hierapolis and maybe bathe in its thermal springs. Day 12

Lycian Way - Self-Guided Walk

Cappadocia Explorer

itiNERARy... Day 1 Arrive Adrasan Surrounded by a dramatic

backdrop of mountains and situated near a glistening bay, Adrasan

provides the perfect base for a week of walking adventures on

the Lycian Way. This picturesque trail, which winds, climbs and

undulates is the ultimate way to explore the incredible Turquoise

Coast. Days 2-7 Adrasan Choose daily from a number of carefully

crafted hikes, ranging from several hours to a full day in length.

Enjoy energetic climbs and tranquil meanders, across an constantly

changing terrain. With a packed lunch and plenty of water tucked

away, set off to discover new gems every day - it’ll be easy to see

why the Lycian Way has been rated as one of the ‘World’s 10 Best

Long Walks’. Hikes also visit such regional icons as the eternal

flames of the Chimaera and mighty Mt Olympos. Be sure to take

a moment to catch the sun setting over Olympos Bay while the

natural gas flames of Mt Chimaera flicker into the night sky - a truly

magical experience. The walks in this part of the world not only

boast jaw-dropping oceanic and mountain vistas, but they also

play host to several ancient archaeological sites and ruins, as well

as narrow trails rumoured to have once been used by the likes of

Alexander the Great. Each day will bring a new adventure to be

enjoyed with the knowledge that a hearty meal, friendly hospitality

and a comfy bed will be the reward at the end of the day. Be sure to

take the time to indulge sore muscles after a week of walking with

the quintessential Turkish bathing experience - a hamam. Day 8

Depart Adrasan This Lycian Way adventure comes to an end.

itiNERARy... Day 1 Arrive Goreme Set amid the surreal

Cappadocia landscape, Goreme is a magical little village.

Get acquainted with this region on a full day of sightseeing

accompanied by a local guide, including a visit to the Derinkuyu

underground city where early Christians escaped the persecution

of the Romans by hiding in the intricate network of caves. Admire

the strange, natural beauty of this impressive environment and

marvel at the ingenuity of the early settlers who hand-carved

their homes into the volcanic rock. In the evening, be treated to

Turkish hospitality while savouring a delicious meal in the home of

a local family. Days 2-3 Goreme Take to the skies on an optional

balloon ride for unforgettable views over the fairy chimneys and

rock houses. Back down on earth, enjoy guided explorations of the

surrounding vineyards, valleys and volcanic landscape by foot and

by bike. In the evening, marvel at a restored caravanserai that once

was used by merchants to trade their wares. Spend the next day

with a guide, navigating deeper into the enchanting Cappadocia

valleys, hiking along the trails past abandoned rock houses and

mushroom-like formations. Get swept up in a mysterious Sufi

performance and, later, be dazzled by a Turkish folklore evening

in an atmospheric cave setting. This night of traditional dance and

live music will not only end this short break on a festive note, but

it will showcase the magical ambiance this extraordinary town is

known for. Day 4 Depart Goreme It’s time to say goodbye to the

itiNERARy... Day 1 Arrive istanbul Unearth the treasures of

one of the greatest cities on earth on this Istanbul short break.

From the grandeur of treasured buildings, to vibrant, spice-scented

markets and cutting-edge nightlife, Istanbul is a tantalising mix

of modern zeal and old world mystique. Joining forces with a

local guide, journey through Sultanahmet to the magnificent

Blue Mosque. Its domed ceilings and spires cast an unforgettable

impression onto the city skyline. Mingle with enthusiastic vendors

explore the impressive Suleymaniye and Rustem Pasha mosques,

delve into the many sights and delights of the Spice Bazaar and be

awed on a visit to Aya Sofya and Topkapi Palace. After working up

an appetite it is time to experience authentic Turkish hospitality

over a delicious home-cooked meal with a local family. Cap off the

day by soaking up views of this intoxicating city from a popular

local hangout. Day 2 Depart istanbul Start the day with an

invigorating body scrub at a traditional hamam before setting

out to discover some lesser-known sights of this great city. Be

immersed in modern-day Istanbul on a walking tour through the

artisan neighbourhoods of Taksim and Beyoglu, known for their

fashion, art and food, then step into the past in the narrow streets

and quiet courtyards of Pera. Visit Armenian, Greek and Catholic

churches before winding up this two-day city break with a visit to

a Turkish coffee house. If time permits, why not stay on to visit the

eerie underground Basilica Cistern?

itiNERARy... Day 1 Fethiye Raise anchor in Fethiye and sail out

into Samanlik Bay aboard a gulet, a traditional Turkish boat. Settle

into the comfortable cabin and get acquainted with the crew and

fellow travellers. Enjoy a tasty lunch of Turkish delicacies, then call

into Oludeniz, a picture-perfect lagoon surrounded by densely

forested hills and flanked by a long, sandy beach. While here, it’s

highly recommended to visit St Nicholas Island and Butterfly Valley

before watching the sun set over the Mediterranean. Days 2-3

Gulet Sailing Cruising the azure sea off the coast of Turkey must

be the ultimate in relaxation. Snorkel and swim in the warm waters

or simply relax up on deck with a good book in hand. Learn how to

play backgammon - there will never be a better backdrop for board

games than this! Spend time anchored at Kalkan, Kas and Kekova.

These quaint seaside towns offer an authentic Turkish coastal

experience, so why not feast on fresh seafood by the shore or visit

a teahouse to meet the locals? End the day watching the sun melt

into the ocean and fall asleep to the gentle rocking of the waves.

Day 4 Olympos Explore the Pirate’s Cave, then enjoy a swim

and a final lunch on board before pulling into the harbour and

returning to dry land. Transfer to the archaeological site of Myra

and visit Demre to see St Nicholas Church. Afterwards, journey to

laid-back Olympos, where there is the option to explore the nearby

ancient ruins or to scale the rocky slopes of mighty Mt Olympos to

see the Chimaera, a cluster of spontaneous flames that blaze from

crevices in the mountain.
