• Assistieve technologie: technologisch hulpmiddel ter ondersteuning van personen→ ondersteuning van beweging

• Geavanceerd: aangedreven + “intelligent”

• Toepassingsgebied: militair, industrieel, zorg (bewegingsversterkend, revalidatie)

Doelstelling

• Het forum wordt georganiseerd vanuit twee initiatieven die elkaar willen aanvullen en versterken:



Doelstelling

• Enerzijds vanuit de academische wereld (K.U.Leuven, V.U.B., K.H.K.) samen met zorginstellingen (Nationaal Multiple Sclerose Centrum, Hof ter Schelde) die een aanvraag van een IWT-SBO-project(Strategisch Basis Onderzoek) voorbereidt rond de ontwikkeling van een intelligente actieve orthese voor de onderste lidmaten (exoskeleton). Uitgangspunt hierbij is dat de huidige exoskeletonsop vele vlakken niet voldoen en dat basisonderzoek nodig is om fundamentele concepten en aanpakken ter verbetering, zowel technologisch als klinisch, te ontwikkelen. In een natraject moeten de resultaten van dit onderzoek in samenwerking met bedrijven in Vlaanderen concreet gevaloriseerd worden, eventueel met bijkomende steun van het IWT via O&O-projecten. Niet enkel actieve ortheses maar ook andere toepassingen van de technologieën die ontwikkeld worden binnen het SBO-projectkomen in aanmerking voor een dergelijk natraject.



Doelstelling

• Anderzijds vanuit In-HAM (vertegenwoordiger van het middenveld tussen overheid, zorginstellingen, kennisinstellingen en industrie) in samenwerking met het Centrum Assistieve Technologie (een multidisciplinair kennis-en expertisecentrum in Assistieve Technologie, opgestart vanuit KHBO). → willen industriële partners zoeken om op zeer korte termijn naar de markt te gaan met commerciële producten.

IALO – General objectives

• Bring together a consortium of experts from different fields to develop an integrated approach for the design, implementation and evaluation of exoskeletons.

• Generate generic scientific and technological knowledge that is applicable to the wider area of robotic devices that dynamically interact with humans.

• Apply this knowledge to a bilateral active lower-limb orthosis (IALO).

Commercialisation of exoskeleton motivated by an aging population.

Adaptable compliant actuator with integrated lightweight motor controller.Key properties:• Reduction of peak power• Attenuation of highly dynamic disturbances and shocks• Reduced energy consumption• Inherent safety

Use in:• highly dynamic machines: pick and place machines, weaving

machines, …• machines interacting with the environment: drilling machines, …• machines interacting with human: sports equipment, training

devices, …

Possible markets for the low-level safe controller are:• high tech actuated sports/fitness equipment;• lightweight robot arms working in direct contact with

humans.

The high and low level controller will be exploited via Free and Open Source Software of the developments close to OROCOS (Open RObot COntrol Software).

A simulation environment to study the interaction between actuated devices and humans is a valuable tool in:• ergonomics e.g. to study comfort of car driver, or of

agricultural or mining equipment;• design of sport and exercise machines;• development of multidomain simulation software.

Generic knowledge on the psychological acceptability of assistive devices can be applied for other types of assistive walking aids and is of use for all companies producing and prescribing assistive devices.
