DESCRIPTION

As shrinking technology allows us to cheaply put hardware eyes, ears and touch sensors on everyday things, the data now readily available can offer a magnitude of information without the user even lifting a finger. Some are calling 2013 the “Year of the sensor”, and it giving passage to the Internet of Things and Big Data; aside from buzz terms we’ll talk about how these tools will offer the ability for more interactions to get out of the way.

It costs $0.5 to put a web server into anything. What will UX be like in an Internet of Things world? Will interfaces be built into these devices or will they defer to input devices that you already have.

Monday, May 20, 13• Triple-axis analog accelerometer - for measuring motion and tilt• Force sensitive resistor - for sensing pressure/force• Temperature sensor - for measuring from -40 to over +125 degrees C• 10K breadboard potentiometer• Ball tilt sensor - for sensing orientation• Photo cell sensor - for sensing light• IR sensor - for sensing infrared light pulsing at 38KHz• IR LED - for use with the IR sensor

Adafruit sensor pack= $35combined with micro processors like Arduino and you can have an internet connected sensor for under $50.

With a single app using the phones camera it gives the user the ability to read any language. Imagine how this will change the world when it comes to Google Glass?

Now with GPS + Accelerometer sensors in the phone they can tell when you walking, bike and traveling by auto.

14s before the Earthquake in Japan all trains and factories in the area came to a halt... autonomously

Example of sensor smart UX:It’s currently 72 degrees in here. For every one person, in this room, with the doors closed, it raises the temperature by .25 a degree. That means that 32 people in this room with change the temperature to [x]. The thermostat is set to cool to 70 degrees. What it doesn’t know is that this meeting is on the calendar for only 5 more minutes and that most people will be leaving to go drink beer.

The room also didn't know we where coming
