The Winner’s Circle Scholarship program was established in 1990 to provide incentives for college-bound youth seeking post-secondary education in an area of agriculture. CARCASS REQUIREMENTS Upon completion of the Sale of Champions, animals will be transported to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa for carcass evaluation and drug testing in accordance with the Iowa State Fair rules. Processing will be done at no expense to the purchaser. The champion carcasses may be viewed on Saturday, August 25, 2018. You must arrive no later than 3:00 p.m. and meet in Lush Auditorium (0125 Kildee Hall). The group will walk together to the Meat Lab. No Exceptions! You must have clean, close-toed shoes and clean clothes. Everyone will be required to wear frocks, hairnets and walk through a foot disinfectant in order to participate. IFAA MISSION

The Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA) is a non-profit organization comprised of agricultural enthusiasts dedicated to providing scholarships, financial awards and incentives for college-bound (4-H and FFA) youth seeking a post-secondary education in the area of agriculture.

A key means of providing this support has been through partnerships with FFA and Iowa 4-H. Each year, thousands of Iowa students participate in 4-H and FFA beef, swine, poultry and other agricultural projects. IFAA’s role is to provide scholarships and other financial awards to college-bound youth with ag interests.

GRAND CHAMPION 4-H MARKET STEER Logan McCrea – Albia, IA Parents: Eric McCrea and Mary McCrea

Logan McCrea exhibited the Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer for the 2nd year in a row at the Iowa State Fair. This year’s champion animal weighed in at 1,342 lbs. Logan has represented Mahaska County at the Iowa State Fair for 5 years. He is a member of the West Des Moines Livewires 4-H Club. He participates in football, basketball and baseball at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School where he will be in the 11th grade this fall.

RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION 4-H MARKET STEER Cole Lauterbach – Van Meter, IA Parents: Lance and Sherry Lauterbach

The Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer was exhibited by Cole Lauterbach at the 2018 Iowa State Fair. His Reserve Champion Steer weighed in at 1,349 lbs. and he has been exhibiting market beef animals for 9 years. He is a member of the Jefferson Lee Jades 4-H Club in Madison County where he also has had swine projects for 8 years. Cole graduated from Van Meter High School where he participated in football and will be attending Iowa State University this fall where he will be a Freshman in Agriculture Studies with a minor in Animal Science. He will be joining the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at Iowa State University. Cole plays a big role in working for the family cattle operation.

GRAND CHAMPION 4-H MARKET HEIFER Abi Henderson – Adel, IA Parents: Shadd and Lauri Henderson

The Grand 4-H Market Heifer was exhibited by Abi Henderson. This is Abi’s 6th year showing at the Iowa State Fair but only her 2nd year in the Market Beef Project. She will be a senior at Ogden High School this year where she is active in cheerleading. Abi is also active state wide in the Iowa Junior Beef Breeds Association and the Iowa Angus Association. In her free time she enjoys working on other show calves year round for Matt Lautner Cattle.

RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION 4-H MARKET HEIFER Kyara Payne – Spirit Lake, IA Parent: Andrea Payne

The 2018 Iowa State Fair Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Heifer was exhibited by Kyara Payne. This is Kyara’s 2nd year showing Market Beef at the State Fair. In Dickinson County she is a member of the Superior Lakers 4-H Club. Kyara loves being a part of 4-H and being able to show alongside her brothers and family. She is also a member of the Immanual Lutheran Church in her community. Other than showing cattle Kyara enjoys spending time with her family at their cabin.

GRAND CHAMPION FFA MARKET HOG Tommy Pretz – Columbus Junction, IA Parents: Michael and Dayle Pretz

The 2018 Grand Champion FFA Market Hog was exhibited by Tommy Pretz. Tommy will be a freshman at Iowa State University majoring in Animal Science this fall. In high school he was very involved in the Columbus FFA Chapter. He served as chapter president while also participating in team and individual ag sales, poultry judging, cattle and swine projects. His other activities included basketball, baseball, track, football, band, golf and National Honor Society. When Tommy has free time he enjoys fishing, hunting and playing sports.

Reserve Grand Champion FFA Market Hog Tyler Wellman – West Point, IA Parents: Miles and Cindy Wellman

Tyler Wellman exhibited the 2018 Reserve Grand Champion FFA Market Hog. Tyler will be a sophomore this fall at Black Hawk East Community College majoring in Animal Science. He is also a member of the Black Hawk East Livestock Judging Team. Tyler shows competitively on the Iowa Swine Jackpot Series and is involved in the National Scholars Society. In high school he was actively involved in his 4-H Club, County 4-H Council and FFA Chapter. He served as an officer several times for these groups. When he isn’t showing pigs he enjoys raising Golden Doodle puppies and fishing.

GRAND CHAMPION 4-H MARKET HOG Pierce Woodruff – Mooreland, IA Parents: Jason and Tiffany Woodruff

Pierce Woodruff exhibited the Grand Champion 4-H Market Hog at this year’s Iowa State Fair. This is Pierce’s 4th year exhibiting swine at the State Fair. He will be in 9th grade at Southeast Valley High School this fall. He is a member of the Gowrie Groundbreaker 4-H Club in Webster County where he focuses on showing pigs. At school he participates in football, wrestling, track and choir. Within the community Pierce is a part of the Holy Trinity Parish and Fairthformation.

The Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Hog was exhibited by Cash Voegele. This caps off Cash’s first year showing at the Iowa State Fair. He will be in 7th grade at Lennox Junior High this year. In his Country Kids 4-H Club he is also involved in photography, communication projects, fashion review and cattle. Cash stays busy with the Iowa Swine Jackpot Series, golf, and church youth group. When he gets the chance he also enjoys hunting and fishing.

The 2018 Grand Champion FFA Market Lamb was exhibited by Brooke Kuesel. Brooke is no stranger to the Sale of Champions arena as she has won the Iowa State Fair Lamb Show three years in a row. She will be a sophomore at the University of Iowa majoring in business and accounting. In her free time she enjoys helping her uncle and grandfather on their family farm. Brooke also works part-time for Show Stock Planet running online sales.

RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION FFA MARKET LAMB Lexie Berry – Sac City, IA Parents: Keith and Shelli Berry

Lexie Berry exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion FFA Market Lamb at the 2018 Iowa State Fair. Lexie will be a junior this fall at Iowa State University majoring in Agricultural Studies. At Iowa State she is active in the Block & Bridle Club where she serves as the Sheep Interest Group President, Chairman of the Cyclone Alley Lamb Show, and is a member of several committees. Lexie says she is arguably the best free labor Berry Farms has ever had even though her brother and sister may not agree! She also enjoys spending time with her nephew Brooks and new niece Ani. Lexie’s motto this year is: “Doin’ it for Gramps”.

GRAND CHAMPION 4-H MARKET LAMB Sam Schmillen – Marcus, IA Parents: Kyle and Jill Schmillen

Sam Schmillen exhibited the Grand Champion 4-H Market Lamb at the 2018 Iowa State Fair. This is Sam’s first year showing Market Lambs at the State Fair. He has been active in show club lambs through the Tillers 4-H Club as well as exhibiting at national shows in the fall. Sam will be in 6th grade at Remsen St. Mary’s this year where he plays AAU Basketball for the Barnstormers as well as playing baseball. In his free time he enjoys working on his family’s farm, hunting and fishing.

RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION 4-H MARKET LAMB Nicole Zuber – Marengo, IA Parents: Bart and Mellissa Zuber

The Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Lamb was shown by Nicole Zuber. Nicole will be a freshman at Iowa State University this fall majoring in Animal Science with a Pre-Vet option. Through the Hilton Happy Hustlers 4-H Club she has been able to show sheep and pigs. In high school she was active in softball, basketball, student council, National Honor Society, Deca and FFA. She also stays busy through an internship with the Veterinary Medical Center in Williamsburg and helping out on her family’s farm.

Joel Henningsen of Oakland exhibited the 2018 Grand Champion FFA Market Meat Goat at the Iowa State Fair. This is he’s 3rd year exhibiting at the State Fair and his first year in the Meat Goat Project. Joel will be in 11th grade this fall at Riverside High School in Oakland. Joel’s school activities include football, soccer and golf. He has served as President of the Riverside FFA Chapter and participates in livestock judging. He is a member of his church community and youth group. He enjoys helping on the farm.

The 2018 Grand Champion 4-H Market Meat Goat was exhibited by Cloie Bruce of Montgomery County. This is her 2nd year in the 4-H Meat Goat Project. Cloie is a member of the Montgomery-Lincoln Hustlers 4-H Club where she is also involved in beef cattle projects. She will be attending Red Oak Middle School this fall where she will be in 7 th grade. Cloie’s school activities include volleyball, basketball, softball, band, jazz band, choir and theater. She attends St. Mary’s Catholic Church in her community and has attended church youth camp. In her spare time Cloie enjoys babysitting.

GRAND CHAMPION 4-H MARKET BROILER PEN Brayton Schnechinger – Harlan, IA Parents: Monte and Julie Schechinger

Brayton exhibited the 2018 Grand Champion 4-H Market Broiler Pen at the Iowa State Fair. He also exhibited the Champion 4-H Market Broiler Pen in 2016, his first year exhibiting broilers. This year we have a brother – sister team claiming the Broiler Championship. Brayton will be a freshman at Harlan Community High School. At school he participates in FFA, basketball, football, track, trap shoot and baseball. Brayton is also a member of the Lincoln Leaders 4-H Club and has exhibited broilers for three years. He belongs to St. Boniface Parish and CCD.

RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION 4-H MARKET BROILER PEN Brylee Schnechinger – Harlan, IA Parents: Monte and Julie Schechinger

The 2018 Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Broiler Pen was exhibited by Brylee Schnechinger. This is Brylee’s first year exhibiting at the Iowa State Fair and first year in this project area. Her brother Brayton who showed the Grand Champion 4-H Market Broiler Pen was very good at teaching Brylee the ropes for her project this year. Brylee will be in 6th grade at Harlan Community School. She is a member of the Lincoln Leaders 4-H Club as well as participating in dance, basketball, volleyball and soccer. Braylee has reached the finals of the 2018 Bill Riley Talent Show with her tap dance duet and will compete on Sunday as one of six finalist.
